Where to stay in Zao
Zao hotels & accommodations

If you are going to Zao Onsen for ski or snowboard, you have to know that all the hotels here are not ski-in and ski-out. So book a hotel with a good location is very important. Takamiya Hotel Lucent is just in front of the central ropeway center, very easy to go up to the mountain. Many of my friends they all recommend Takamiya Hotel Lucent, because of its friendly ...

The transport make a difference to the place - we visited zao ropeway and 2 of they sister hotel onsen. Must go to the sisters onsen as it was really nice and quiet and has outdoor views. We loved the dinner and breakfast too and the front counter is really helpful although they do not speak the language

[Plus] 1. Very good service 2. Very good location - (1 minute walk to Zao Rope Way) 3. Nice view from breakfast room 4. Reply my email within an hour 5. Pick-up service ----------------- [Minus] 1. Room rate was a bit too high in comparison with our expectations 2. Dinner was just average - Not "Wow" ----------------- [Other] Zao onsen is a quite small town...

We were a family of three. Spent one night at Hammond & were very impressed by the ryokan staff! They tried their very best to accomodate us, drove us back & forth between Hammond & cable car station, gave constructive ideas about the hiking trail. The ryokan itself is dated but generally it is clean & organised. The hot spring is small but traditional & "authentic". F...

The room is big and clean. The onsen in the hotel is nice and comfortable. You can not use soap in the public onsen outside the hotel. The hotel owners are willing to provide any assistance you need. For example, I can not find any shop that sells apple and strawberry then I ask help for that to the hotel owner, he gave me one bag with 5 sweet apple in 10 minutes!!! It...

other reviews seem to suggest that there is only 1 small onsen, which is not true. there are 2 small onsen of natural sulphur base and 1 big one of normal colourless spring water. i have thoroughly enjoyed the onsen. the hotel is also near the famous natural big onsen, within 15min walk. u can buy the ticket at the hotel at 400yen and save 100yen. the service is good...

It is a quite an old but very clean Japanese ryokan. The room provided is at third level without lift. It might be a problem if you carry a big luggage. The friendly host can communicate in English quite well and is very helpful by providing an umbrella during raining day. The ryokan also provides free entrance tickets to the 3 public hot spring bath within Zao hot...

We opted to come here for the Onsen and the public Onsen was beautiful; however there are no pictures allowed. I took a solo picture before I saw the sign and the hotel was aware, I wonder if there were cameras? The private Onsens did not match the pictures the hotel proposed. It was great to experience the natural Onsen, nonetheless! Beautiful! Only wish was you can...

Zao onsen has many ryokans from which to chose. Some are more modern while others have been there for a long time. This is the case of Yoshidaya, which has been run by the same family for close to 300 years. It is not the most modern of ryokans, so those who would like high end luxury type accomodations should go elsewhere. But it was for us simply divine. The room...

Nice hotel, beautiful onsen ! The view is really nice with the snow. The breakfast and dinner are more then enough to be satiated. You can even see a lot of goat-antelope in the nature around the hotel. The staff is really nice and can recommend you quite well places and restaurants around and help you for booking your next activity. I really recommend this hotel !

This is a very nice ryokan style resort. Clean, tasteful and beautifully situated in Zao Onsen - close to the Zao Ropeway. They have both an outdoor and indoor onsen - both small, but lovely and clean. The rooms are nice, traditonal japanese rooms with tatami mat and futons - the room we got had a great view of the mountains. The owners and staff were all lovely and we...

Locate up a small hill in Zao Onsen, the owner and the staff were super courteous to pick us up from the bus station and dropped us off as well. Big spacious rooms with lovely views and just a nice short trek up hill to the ski slopes. Highly recommended!

Great location right off the slopes and such nice staff. Only stayed here for 2 nights but it was great. In winter it’s only accessible by cable car which definitely adds to the atmosphere. The only drawback is that the cable car closes at 5 so you have to be into the hotel by this time or you’ll be stranded. If you’re looking to spend your nights in the town then this...

We stay here over Japanese long vocation week, so the price was a bit high (they only provide room with breakfast + dinner plan). The building was nice and not too far commute from ski lift. The breakfast and dinner were just so so (I would prefer payer lower price and dine somewhere else since I had a car, but I think it's pretty convenient if you come here by public ...
