No complaints”

Beach side location, space between beach chairs, clean room

For a Thai hotel, next to the beach I can't complain. It's expensive for what you get, but everything on Koh Samet is expensive and basic. Great location between the main road of shops and the beach. Either side of the hotel beach area are deck chairs packed in and crowds of people. The Tonsak area is spaced out and much more relaxing. The staff were friendly and effective and didn't do anything wrong, which is a first after 4 years in Thailand! The food in the beach side restaurant is simple but effective. There may be better, more expensive options or cheaper places with basic rooms; but I can't complain about Tonsak.

A short break from busy bangkok”

The hotel was on the beach, rooms were clean and tidy, relaxed atmosphere

My stay at the tonsak resort was fine. I got a nice wooden shack for a very reasonable price and it was on the beach. Everything i needed was close by (places to eat and drink). Also atvs and scooter hire was available nearby for further exploration of the island. My only qualm about the tonsak is that the hotel next door plays its music load so if you are a light sleeper you may find this annoying.

What a little gem!!”

Right on the beach

I really enjoyed my stay at Tonsak Resort, i was a little worried beforehand because as usual, i base a lot on where i stay on other people's reviews and Tonsak has recieved a mixed bag, however its a lovely little resort!! What you have to remember is you are booking a small bungalow with basic facilities because it is the location you are really going for!! Having said that, the VIP room was clean, provided a/c, a fridge, complimentary water, tv, big bed and a shower, really, what else do you need when booking an island getaway!! The staff i encountered were friendly and helpful and the room was always nice and clean when we returned from the beach. Only 2 minor things to change if i could, a safety deposit box would be a nice addition and the shower water/drain wasnt the most pleasent smelling but nothing to complain about! Oh, i guess a mozzie net would be a little luxury in the VIP room!!! We didnt try the restaurant but there are so many places to eat, you are spoilt for choice! I guess the ultimate compliment i can give Tonsak is that i plan to return in April and bring the girlfriends parents along too, i wouldnt risk the loss of face if i didnt like the place!!!

A clean and quiet place to stay on the best beach!”

Well kept gardens, right on the beach, friendly staff

Had a great stay at Tonsak. Loved the garden areas that lined the path up back from the beach to the Deluxe bungalows. And the view at breakfast of the beach was AMAZING. The staff are friendly and helpful and the all-wood bungalows made me feel like I was back home in Canada. When booking, don't take the bungalows closest to the beach. Not only are they older and a bit old and worn, they get the thumping trance music from the bar next door. We stayed just a few meters back in the Deluxe A bungalows and you could hardly hear anything at night...Although we didn't make it back home till dawn some nights as there are so many beach bars you can just chill at by the waves, it seems like a waste to go and sleep. I'll definitely stay at Tonsak again.

Expensive for the services included.”

Tonsak Resort is located right on the beach and in an amazing location on Koh Samet island. It gets really really busy in the afternoon as all one-day visitors from Bangkok/Rayong visit this island and make their landfall here. Lunchtimes are super crowded almost everywhere on this beach. Lovely seafood at Tonsak Resort. The major drawback is that kitchen closes at 3 PM. You can't even get a cup of coffee. Also at night I did not find anyone from the hotel staying at the property. The Resort office is closed, and if you need some help you have go to their door, search contact number and then call them. I believe at least 1 person should be available at the property office for supporting the guest. There are many better places for food and stay as well. This is not a bad resort, its just there are better ones.

On beach location with complimentary ants in the coffee”

Two large and comfortable beds in the big bungalows, perfect for families. Excellent location, with own/free sunchairs on the beach. Koh Samet, at least Sai Kaew beach, has changed the past few years with the inflow of packaged tourist groups. Tonsak resort was free from tourist groups, though. However, one morning we got about a dozen ants in the breakfast coffee. Staff just shrugged their shoulders and claimed they came from the sugar we put in the coffee. In a tone like it was our fault. However, no sugar had been added (from the sealed sachets..) Another shrug, no apology and we got new coffee. Fridge in the room was leaking water on the floor but it was quickly fixed - by raising the temperature? At least it seemed that way. Sometimes difficult to communicate with the non-Thai staff in the bar. Few smiles at the reception. For the price, we would expect friendlier service level. Cleaning staff seemed happy, though, and the rooms were clean. Besides the general service comments and the ants, we were very happy with our stay. We even stayed an extra night. .

Fantastic location”

Comfortable room, beach front location, got the nicest part of Sai Kaew beach

The room was clean, comfortable, and feels like staying on a log cabin. Very nice. They provided a rack at the balcony of each room where you can hang wet clothes - very thoughtful . We only ate breakfast so I can't review the hotel restaurant. Standard breakfast is not outstanding but the location is superb. You have a nice view of the beach while eating. They also have one of the best part of the beach, very fine sand. The beach umbrellas are well placed and not crowded like the other resorts. Hence you get un obstructed view with a sense of exclusivity at a price that won't break your budget.

Food, service and location

We had a great time , very relaxing and a great location with every thing you could need close handy. The only downer being the resort next door to Tonsak played very loud music until the early hours of the morning taking away the romantic atmosphere and making it very difficult to get a good nights sleep.

Too Much Loud Boat Engine and Boat Traffic Right In Front of the Beach Resort”

I have stayed at this location before, however now there is too much very loud speed boat engine noise and boat traffic dropping off and picking up day beach visitors right in front of the Tonsak Resort, all day long. I was laying on the beach and getting sprayed by boat propeller water wash from when the speed boats exit the area. Complete disregard for anyone trying to enjoy the beach or water. It amazes me that this location is within the Thailand National Park and this is being allowed. If fact the National Army is posted along the beach collecting 200 Thai Baht from each boat drop-off visitor. Tonsak Resort offers these day visitors a lunch package. There is more than 100 of these people each day at Tonsak Resort alone. The other hotels along this beach as well offer these day visitors a lunch package. The entire one mile of Sai Kaew Beach is now affected by these speed boat drop-off's for the day visitors. I would never stay at any hotel on Sai Kaew Beach.

Great place, great value”

Location, Service, simplicity

Right on the main beach, we were able to spend our days on the beach and only used the accommodation to sleep. Not much entertainment at the actual resort, but this was not a problem due to proximity to so much on the beach. The room was excellent quality, although we only used it briefly during the day. For the budget conscious traveler, there are even cheaper options available. For travelers wanting to get away from the hundreds of international tourists out the front, find somewhere secluded further south on the island.

Good Value but a getting a little tired.”

I think it is very easy to criticise a resort or hotel so i have stepped back for a moment and re-assessed. Just about any resort on an island is going to have issues unless you are a 4-5 star and can charge accordingly and provide 1st class property and amenities. We were lucky to book way in advance so the week over the new year period was excellent value for money. The cabins are what they are cabins. But they are tidy, the aircon worked pefectly, the cleaning was adequate and the location excellent and convenient to everything you need. The resort does however cater for a high number of day trippers to the island by way of providing a meal so be prepared as it does get extremely busy on the beachfront. We hired a scooter for the week so every day we would take off to some of the other great beach locations and laze there for the day. When we returned to the resort the day trippers were gone and we would sit out the front on the beach and enjoy a sunset beer or three.

Easy access to main beach area”

Location, small resort, clean beach

The rooms are in small cabanas. They are basic, but clean and are located a few steps from the beach. I found the staff rather unresponsive: just another couple that is travelling and using one of their rooms. I had much better experiences elsewhere in Thailand. Breakfast isn't included and the price is rather high for what you get... but that's the case in most places in Koh Samet. If you want a small places right on the beach and located near all restaurants and the main village, than this is a good place. If you want more luxury or a more deserted place, than look for something else on the island.
