Like a cosy home in the middle of a really big city”
The Orchid is in the historical Hutong area of Beijing near Drumtower. The Orchid is also a historical building in a very narrow lane with two courtyards and only a few rooms located around them. The rooms are very comfortable, clean and decorated with love. On the roof top floor there is a restaurant where they serve excellent breakfast. If guests go on a very early morning tour, the friendly Orchid staff provide delicious banana bread and a coffee for take-away. The staff are young, international, always in a good mood, friendly, extraordinarily helpful and their English is excellent. The give you a map and even a smart phone, just in case you get lost, you can phone them at any time. After a long day of sightseeing you feel like coming home to the living-room-like reception. They give you a cup of delicious Chinese tea and show a real interest in what you have done and they give you useful information for your next day. Thanks for everything. I'll come back.

Experience Beijing as if you lived there”
Highly recommend this unique opportunity to stay in an actual, antique hutong in Beijing, smack in the midst of day to day life of Beijing families. The Orchid provides a window into a world that is quickly disappearing as Beijing (and the rest of China) modernizes into shopping malls and high rises. This intimate boutique hotel is a refreshing alternative; cozy, hand-carved and bohemian. Lovely, accommodating staff goes out of their way to meet your needs. Food is amazing! Gracious courtyard and lobby. Rooms are fine, basic needs are met and beds are tremendously comfortable. If you're looking for 5 star luxury, look elsewhere. But you can get that kind of experience anywhere in the world. Why travel all the way to Beijing to stay in a hotel chain you can find in any major city in the world? The Orchid offers a one-of-a-kind cultural experience.

Lovely helpful staff at this hutong hotel”
Julie, Lou and all the staff were lovely and fun and helped us so much with phones, taxis, recommendations, and even had two of the hotel bicycles repaired so we could use them! Would also really recommend the lovely taxi Lou booked for us for the great wall - a lovely spacious taxi and better value than many of the tours at 700 rmb return excluding entrance fees. We went to Mutianyu which was great. The Orchid is in a great location, easy to walk / cycle to everywhere really. I also recommend the bike beijing cycling tour, 3 hours and a great intro to Beijing. Beware google is banned in China - fortunately the Orchid give you a local phone for your stay. I feel the Orchid is expensive, but then again it is great! Thankyou julie lou and night shift girl - sorry my memory fails me! - for a fabulous and enjoyable stay

Exceptional”
I highly recommend The Orchid. My boyfriend and I live in Beijing and were looking for a staycation within the city. We'd heard The Orchid recommended several times, and decided to stay there. Our room was clean, charming, and comfortable. The grounds of the hotel, a courtyard, were absolutely beautiful. The breakfast was incredible! As I am a vegan, they made a wonderful breakfast for me that was not on the menu, and it was delicious. I will recommend The Orchid to any visitors I have in Beijing in the future!

Can we keep this wonderful place a secret?”
My husband and I stayed at The Orchid for 3 nights and we absolutely loved this hotel. It is in the hutongs, which are the best areas to explore on a bike in Beijing. It is historical appearing on the outside (in a narrow alleyway) and modern on the inside. Everything is cozy, beautiful, and clean. The best thing to say about this place is the staff. My husband had misplaced his phone and the hotel staff lent him a Chinese phone for the duration of our stay. We called the staff several times during our roamings in Beijing in the first two days to help with directions, talking to cab drivers, booking sleeper trains, planning a trip to Great Wall etc. and they helped us with all of it. Our breakfast was included and the food there along with the staff were, again, wonderful. The rooftop is a place to see even in the winter. That's all I can say, I just loved this place and it's made wonderful by its staff and its location...and it's breakfast.

Wonderful boutique hotel, warm hospitality in great Hutong location”
We have thoroughly enjoyed our stay here in this gorgeous and leafy courtyard boutique hotel. The staff here is incredibly helpful and makes us feel very welcomed. The rooftop area is a lovely spot to hang out, especially after a long day of exploring Beijing. Breakfast food is one of the best hotel food we have ever tasted, a perfect mix between Beijing and western style. There is a great little dumpling restaurant just across the hotel which satisfy our craving for yummy noodles and juicy dumplings. We so wish we can stay for the whole week here! If we ever come back to Beijing, this would be the only hotel we would go back to, we are very fond of this hotel! Thank you for looking after us :)

The soul of old Beijing”
Situated in the heart of a old Beijing Hutong, The Orchid would be an excellent choice to stay and experience the soul of old Beijing. Excellent choices of food and shops within walking distance and places of interest is just a couple of subway station away. Highly recommended to those who want to experience the old Beijing and The Orchid staff are very helpful and accomodating.

Simply phenomenal”
Beautiful beautiful hotel in a fantastic location. The ONLY hotel I'll be staying at in Beijing. Rooms were cute, bathrooms felt super natural (and somehow Caribbean exotic with exposed rock). There's a terrace upstairs overlooking alleyways with lights. Beautiful at day or night. Tons of trees and private gardens. Amazing service from staff - some of the friendliest and most helpful people I've met. If you're looking for a cozy place close to old city Beijing nightlife...Stay here - you won't regret!!!!

Fantastic Staff, Fantastic Location, Great for touring Beijing”
As a Chinese speaker, I didn't need most of the services provided - but the loaner cell phone with WeChat service, and all of the maps and local knowledge, combined with fantastic location right next to the Bell and Drum Towers make the Orchid an amazing place to stay to be a tourist in Beijing.

Loud Garden Room”
My husband and I stay at the Orchid frequently and usually love it every time. Except this past time. We had booked the Garden Room which is a room we had never stayed in previously. Unfortunately, it was incredibly loud with footsteps, banging, and construction. I think the room is right below part of the kitchen so it started being noisy at around 7:20am. Then there were construction as well which didn't make it a restful morning. Everything else like the bed, cleanliness, staff, and breakfast was superb as always, just disappointed in the noise this time.

Great staff!!!”
We loved the staff at the Orchid Hotel. We were only in Beijing overnight and they were so accommodating in helping us get to the Forbidden City and the Great Wall in such a short time. Loved the quaint city life of the surrounding neighborhood as well. The only negative is that the window screen to our bathroom was open so we had flying insects in the room at night.

Exceptional on every level”
One of the most customer focused hotel i've ever stayed in. location brilliant amongst the Hutongs, staff so helpful and even went to train station before we arrived to collect some train tickets, given a phone on arrival so that we could navigate the city more easily and call the hotel when we wanted to return (passing phone to taxi driver!). Excellent map given also with all local bars and restaurants. Breakfast 5* drinks in evening with sunset over hutongs 5* Would not recommend staying anywhere else in Beijing - this is the winner!

Cute hotel, best breakfast, hip location ”
Best hotel breakfast. The hotel is in a hutong neighborhood that is fun, young, and, hip. I love being away from the touristy parts kf Beijing among the locals. There's lots of good shopping and restaurants nearby. The staff is friendly and helpful. They even lend you a free cell phone to use while in town. The rooms were clean and comfortable. Great smelling shampoos and soaps too

Always Amazing”
My husband and I are frequent repeat customers to the Orchid and each time, it is an enjoyable experience. They weren't that busy this time and upgraded us to the fabulous room with the balcony. The staff is welcoming and even remembered our breakfast order. We'll be back for sure.

cute boutique hotel ”
I liked The Orchid. The staff were very helpful and friendly. The room is the perfect size for one. I think it might be a little crowded with two or more people sharing a room though. It is about 30-45 minutes walk from the Forbidden City and Tianamen Square, but there is a bus nearby that you can take if you don't want to walk. It is very near the Bell Tower and Clock Tower. The nearest train stations are about 10-15 minutes walk away.

Great Find!”
This is a really cool hotel right in the middle of the Bejing Hutongs! We loved the atmosphere of being in "old Beijing" and felt really safe. Keep in mind, this is an old part of the city - although the hotel is well kept, the buildings and infrastructure have wear & tear. We didn't mind and it added to the experience, but don't book this if you are looking for a luxurious stay with easy accessibility. Would stay again! Staff is EXCELLENT!

Special spot and location”
A favourite destination whenever traveling through Beijing. The hotel should keep up its upkeep tho, as a things have worn down some over the last few years, and risks becoming like other lower class courtyard locations in the city

One of the best hotels”
We loved everything about this hotel, from the relaxed athmosphere to the design typical of an old Chinese Hutong, from the staff to the outstanding food. Would definitely recommend, for enhancing your stay in Beijing!

The accommodations are beautiful but most importantly the staff is exceptional! ”
The staff wanted to be helpful no matter what we were doing. They volunteered to call taxis, call drivers to take us to the Great Wall, get ginger tea and sprite for my boyfriend who had a stomach virus and constantly follow up to see how he was doing. They are incredibly friendly and so helpful. If I return to Beijing their is no question where I will stay!

Best breakfast I’ve ever had in a hotel - get a full on a la cartel selection :) ”
Best breakfast I’ve ever had in a hotel - get a full on a la cartel selection :) Staff also speak perfect English and very helpful - has a bit of a backpacker hostel vibe but for those that now want luxury :) Great location too. The cheaper rooms share a downstairs courtyard so don’t have too much privacy unless you keep blinds always closed, which isn’t great but I think you should expect that in any hotel in this area, which low built and built around alleyways. If that’s a problem you can stay in the more expensive rooms, which have a secluded outside area (I changed to this - due to my earlier room being fully booked for the last day of my trip), and I think some rooms upstairs looked more private (but I’d didn’t check).
