"Although up the steep hill from Sairee beach town, Hillside is nearby and retains a peaceful feeling- where most places along the main beach are subject to loud- and mostly tragically bad- music. Hillside resort itself is extremely steep- if you are located near the sea it is stunning, but quite a walk up to the building, but well worth the hot climb! The bungalows have A/C and a mini bar, and most offer a view of the sea. Be at the hotel bar for 5pm to enjoy BOGOF drinks and idyllic sunset views of the bay. The walk to town is a 10-15 min stroll down the steep hill, or a 200bht ride if outside the resort's free transfer service. Note that walking back isn't pleasant in the heat! Local pick up taxi drivers around the 7/11 store will take 300bht off you for the 3min drive back- walk a little towards the resort away from the town and you'll get one for 200bht or less. A longboat taxi will drop you off on the small private bay by the pool if you fancy a different journey home, or from day trips. There is a lot of good development going on to make a poolside bar and restaurant, and a new pier is being built, hinting at more facilities like a possible diving school etc. Get a killer deal whilst you can before price hikes! "

"I have to say I simply loved Thipwimarn. The room had a few small issues, things that while not bothering me personally too much, could cause some reviewers to blow a gasket! EG lamp next to the bed was smashed in one corner, should have been replaced or even just removed. Also one sheet had a big rip in it, which was not visible except when you got in bed! Lovely room setup on entering, pretty towel swans and lots of flowers. Room design very lovely except for the lack of overhead light - very dim at night and confusing. Old tv and needed to put the kettle on the floor to be able to plug it in to make tea & coffee, so a bit weird! The mosquito net wasn't strictly needed against beast but did moderate the aircon wonderfully - best nights sleep here! Lack of hot shower is clearly stated but I don't know why they don't just upgrade them - the rooms are at a price bracket you'd expect that and they would be pretty cheap to install basic electric hot water heaters! The pool is lovely - not huge, but a great view - you're really perched on the side of a mountain. For the cheapest rooms it's also a bit of a hike up to the reception/restaurant/pool area, but well worth it! Shame the spa was closed though, I would have liked a massage on site :P Breakfast was *exceptional*. They do not have buffet but basically will make you anything you ask for if they have it. We got a HUGE pile of bacon as well as lovely juice, decent coffee - few language mishaps but the view from the restaurant is simply DIVINE so enjoy it! Especially if you like Thai leaning pillows - one of the best resort restaurants I've ever been to. Wifi was excellent. Only downside really is it's a long way to the beach. So choose this resort for the time you want to laze by the pool or snuggle in your room! ALso watch out for the crabs on the stairs at night! You're in a very diverse jungle/beach environment here!! I would highly recommend Thipwimarn especially for couples. "

Kit has got to be one of the best people anywhere. Made us feel like home and went well above and beyond for all of our fussy needs. "The view of Saree Beach was spectacular from the infinity swimming pool which is a good size and clean. We were looking forward to the sunset, just lying down beside the pool....in fact we didn't want to go anywhere but to stay there for the whole week we were there (this was our 3rd visit to Koh Tao). A and Sara were very helpful and friendly. They help us to book the return journey back to Koh Samui. The place is up the hill about 20 minutes walking to the Saree village either using the main road or just walk along the beach. I recommend for any visitor to stay in the villa to hire a moped particularly if you plan to visit the many hidden spectacular beaches around the island. The Villa itself is spacey and clean. The cleaners come every day at 12-2 midday. The internet is fast enough although more often than not it tends to lose signal for 5-10 mins, but keep in mind that this is a small island far away from the mainland, so it is not the fault of the host. We were grateful that they provided a reasonable fast internet connection (WiFi). The bedrooms had air condition and fans. The kitchen had basic utensils, the fridge was filled with soft drinks/beers/wines. 2 large bottles of mineral water were provided daily for free. My favourite place was the outdoor, open space lounge, lying on the hammock... The moped can be hired at the shop just the bottom of the hill at a cost of 200 Baht a day. It is a normal procedure to leave your original passport there. The owner of the shop is trustworthy though but make sure you have the copy of your passport with you. This place is professionally managed and it is highly recommended. We are already planning for our return visit next year...next time will be longer. 8 days are not enough!"
