Comfortable hotel close to Sanlitun

Arriving in Beijing on a Saturday late afternoon, we discovered that most hotels were fully booked. We quickly checked on Agoda website and booked a room at Swissotel Beijing. When we turned up one hour later at the hotel, despite not being able to find our booking on the system, the staff let us checked in, even upgraded our room to a deluxe room without additional costs. Room was cosy but a bit old, nice view from the window and pillows were excellently comfortable. For those who crave for nightlife, would be glad that this hotel is not too far away from Sanlitun.

Good Business Hotel / Reasonable Price”

Good price, great location, good English speaking service, subway station right in front of hotel.
fairly plain room, but nice and new enough, so no complaint.

This review is similar to one I just did. I originally booked the room for only 2 days, but after the first I liked it so I booked for 4 more nights. When I checked back in I was upgraded to the Executive Floor (apparently they don't have many Queen or King sized beds elsewhere). Actually, the upgrade room itself was not much better than the regular room (except the bathroom, which was much nicer). If I didn't need/want the executive floor service(s), I might not pay extra for that room. The rest of my review is as before. I recommend this hotel for a business traveler that doesn't want to spend an arm and a leg for 5-star service, but instead needs a good reliable safe central hotel. Very centralized in the east-center of Beijing near main business areas, but also very close to restaurants, shopping (sanlitun area 30 minute walk), and many other locations. Several times I had help from the Concierge and front desk and they had some of the best English I've found in Beijing. Also very helpful and they are quick to print out a map w English and Chinese addresses. The subway stop is literally right in front of the lobby entrance. Its 20 minutes by taxi in regular traffic to most of the eastern business district(s). I asked for a large bed but was given two singles but they tried to find a room for me. Most people and taxi drivers know the hotel, its easy to find and it right on a main ring road and intersection. Hmmm... I think my ratings below are better this time than my previous review...

A great experience.”

Friendly and helpful English speaking staff, cleanliness, location, comfort, variety of dining options, huge gym and pool, proximity to subway
Twin beds were a tad hard in the standard room, breakfast quite pricey,

After returning from a flight from Xian late on a Tuesday night, we were desperate for a place to stay in Beijing. We arrived at the Swissotel at around 11 PM as our friends had previously checked in there at a pretty reasonable rate. Unfortunately, at first, they tried to tell us that they only had deluxe rooms left, which were outside of our budget. After some discussion they were miraculously able to find two standard rooms for about $80USD/night. We ended up rebooking for the remainder of the week through Agoda, which further knocked the price down to a very reasonable $64CAD/night. Other than the initial frustrating experience of being conned into renting a deluxe room, the experience there was pretty amazing. We were able to book show tickets and van tours through the concierge and one of the staff even lent us a hand with translation whilst buying a local sim card from a vendor just outside the hotel. Swissotel is reasonably close to Tianamen and The Forbidden City and is just outside the Dong Shiten subway station, which makes it extremely easy and cheap to get around the city and to the airport. The subway in Beijing is efficient and easy to use and you shouldn't underestimate it's value when getting around this very large and busy city. We probably saved hundreds of dollars in cab fare by taking the train. It wouldn't be considered cheap by most backpackers' standards, but the extra cost for the comfort and English speaking desk staff was certainly worth it.

Great location, friendly staff, clean rooms with comfortable beds

The swissotel is the best hotel in beijing for the price. The rooms are very spacious and clean. The beds were comfortable (which is surprisingly hard to find in China). The hotel is located right behind the dongsishiqiao MTR stop on line 2. Very close to both Sanlitun and Tian'anmen, as well as other locations. If you are in beijing, consider staying at this hotel

Great value and very convenient”

Location is the hands down winning feature. Subway station a mere 10 meters from the front door. English speaking staff extremely helpful and courteous.
I cannot find any negative areas.

Visiting Beijing for the first time, there were hundreds of hotels to choose from. The price range was so wide it makes picking a hotel a confusing decision. I wanted to a very good rate in a 5-star hotel, but wasn't sure how good the hotel was. The quoted rates in Agoda was so attractive I ha doubts about the hotel. But a colleague who stayed here some years ago gave it decent review. I'm glad he did. This is a strategically located hotel and has the quality finish and service of the Swissotel brand. No regrets. This is my choice hotel on return visits to Beijing in future.

Superb location & convenient to go everywhere”

Subway is just in front of the hotel main entrance, near to any tourist area in Beijing and the staffs are very helpful and friendly, most of them speak English!

Plus point about this hotel are: Located at cbd area, plenty of taxis available, friendly & helpful staffs, subway station is just in front of the hotel main entrance, very near to all tourist area like wangfujing, ghost street, silk street market, houhai, sanlitun, tiananmen & forbidden city, etc. And not too far from the airport as well. Weaknesses: rooms a bit old, not much food can be found nearby hotel & you can received lots of advertisement/marketing messages during your stay. Overall, I'm very satisfied with my stay as all the weaknesses mentioned above can easily be overcome. Will definitely return to this hotel if I have the chance to visit Beijing again. In term of value for money, this hotel offer good and reasonable rate!

Great hotel, location, breakfast but an old shower”

Location, Breadfast, and Gym

I enjoyed my stay at the Swissotel in Beijing. The location was great, the staff friendly and the buffer breakfast offered a lot of choices. The gym was pretty good for a hotel. It even had free weights. The hotel was right across the street from a metro station and the taxis were about 20 RMB for anywhere in central. A few items I didn’t like about the hotel are: the beds were hard and of poor quality, the shower was clean but appeared a little old and lastly, the internet service in the lobby was free but they charged for internet service in your room. I enjoyed by stay and would recommend the hotel if you don't mind paying for internet service.

Excellent hotel. Staff is courteous and English fluency is better than other local restaurants. Food, business center services and laundry are pricey. Tip: eat outside. Walk along Sanlitun and you will find good restaurant choices and cheap printing-scanning services if needed. Beds are soft, AC works great, wifi is fast. Great Location in Sanlitun”

Very nice location and value.

Once again, enjoyed our stay at the Swissotel. Was greeted by name at check in which was a first here for us. The executive floor is worth the upgrade if can take advantage of their evening appetizers. The rooms are just fine for me. They haven't been remodeled for several years but they are clean and tidy. There is a nice turndown service in the evening where they leave a chocolate and check your water. The location of the hotel is very good for Sanlitun area happenings and it is right next to the subway in case you prefer that route. We had better luck catching a taxi from the hotel this time which was a pleasant surprise. If you do stay on the executive floor, you can save some money by getting soft drinks and water out of the 16th floor lounge rather than your own mini bar.

Cab line can be long and they don't try exceedingly hard to bring in taxis, so better off walking, taking subway or grabbing tuk tuk down on the street on your own if you're not going far and/or you're in a rush. Excellent value for the price. Location couldn't be better. Fitness and swimming pool are excellent, especially for the price point.

Good Hotel with great amenities”

Food, Location to Airport, Gym/spa/pool.

Easy Check in process, staff was very friendly and all spoke English well as expected being a 5 star hotel. The rooms were a bit aged and needs a little renovation. The hotel has an ATM available in the same building. From the reception, take a left and walk down the corridor and then take a right and it is right at the end of the hallway. Their gym is well equipped and had numerous bits of equipment and weights. The hotel masseuse by the name of Angel from Chongqing gave me the best Chinese massage I have had so far in China (390Yuan for 60mins). The buffet dinner for 288 Yuan is well priced as there was range of dishes to choose from. The Peking Duck was available and going back for as many servings of freshly roasted duck is a positive. Their in-room Swissotel Special Breakfast for 188Yuan is recommended and can satisfy the hungriest. Did not have the time to use the Pool, but saw that it had an active Life Guard and the water looked clean. They also let me have a late checkout at 3pm (usually checkout is 2pm) for no extra fee after talking to the Hotel Manager. Very professional and a pleasurable stay. Will be coming back.
