it's a student hostel which is on russell street, about 10mins walk away from melbourne cbd! although we were initially put off by the idea of sharing bathrooms with so many other guests, the bathrooms turned out to be really clean and they don't stink at all! plus, they have a water cooler so that we may refill our bottles before heading out for yet another road trip! the only possible downside that i could think of- rooms are definitely not soundproof. sometimes it gets a lil noisy if other guests were to talk loudly at the corridors (but that's okay cos we were so noisy too hahaha) i'd definitely recommend this place to my friends! kudos to space hotel staff for such a pleasant stay for all of us! :)

Thoughtful hotel with a great location”

The staff has been nothing but friendly and helpful throughout my stay and found it especially endearing with their lovely thought of a bottle of wine, chocolates and personalised card to me and my wife who were taking our pre-wedding photos in Melbourne. It wasn't as noisy from the earlier reviews read - perhaps due to the fact that I was on the 4th floor. Other than that, the location is excellent, with 7-11 petrol station/mart next to the hotel and near promixity to eateries on Lygon Street, Victoria Parade and many car rental choices on Franklin Street. Would book queen room with ensuite bathroom for convenience the next time. Other than that, would definitely make it my 1st choice for accommodation in Melbourne!

Best in Melbourne for Social traveler. ”

This hotel/ hostel hybrid is a true vision of what every hostel/ hotel should be. I felt the right amount of separation and privacy from the typical hostel scene, but with all the social benefits from both the rooftop with hot tub, sun loungers and beautiful views of CBD and North Melbourne. Hotel Guest have access to Kitchen and also the very social bar downstairs. The executive queen is the best views for value I have ever had maybe anywhere in the world. My USD was strong and was paying about 60USD per night for an absolutely perfect stay. Best Bed ever. ONLY NEGATIVE ( they charge extra for wifi that does not work that well...) Free High Speed wifi @ Space is a must for a hotel doing everything else right.

Great location and friendly staffs”

space hotel is strategically located within melbourne cbd. restaurants, bars, convenience stores (24hrs) are just a walk away. the hotel staffs are very helpful and accommodating. the rooms, toilets and other hotel facilities are more than the average backpacker's hotel. however, it's slightly irritating to hear opening and closing bedroom doors when you're trying to get some sleep. expect that some people would leave the toilet dirty after using. another thing that irritated me was my room mate drank all my water but did not replace it.

Clean and Comfort Room in Space Hotel”

Space Hotel is an ideal option for you to enjoy Melbourne, based on price and facilities offered. Room was clean and nicely designed, equipped with facilities such as bars, gym, and rooftop... Location was a little bit outside Melb CBD, but as Melb is an easy way to navigate, you won't be difficult to go around, either on foot or finding the nearest tram stop near the hotel..

Value for money stay in Melbourne! ”

It's my 2nd time to stay at the Space Hotel and the experience is consistently good. The staff are helpful enough to assist us with our concerns. It's conveniently located near (walking distance to) the State Library of Victoria, Melbourne Central Station and Queen Victoria Market, great spots for shopping and to kill time on the last day of vacay. Restrooms are clean but there's no bidet. Elevators can sometimes be slow but it's manageable, the building is not too high so taking the stairs will be fine. Overall, I don't mind these minor inconveniences, the value for money and functionality still outweigh them and I won’t have second thoughts of staying at Space Hotel again.

Budget hotel in a great location”

I stayed in the Space Hotel for a weekend trip to Melbourne and overall, I thought it was a great budget hotel close to the CBD. I booked the Single Room and was pleasantly surprised. It's definitely smaller than what the photos portray but it was clean and had all of the amenities - cupboard, bed, desk, full length mirror and a small flat screen tv. The bathroom and shower was separate. Because the hotel also has dormitories, it has a backpacker feel to it but everyone was friendly and noise levels were kept to a minimum. The hotel also has great amenities such as a movie room, rooftop balcony and spa, and its own bar and restaurant. I didn't use these amenities but will definitely do so next time!

I stayed here during my 3 days of solo trip to Melbourne. Getting to the hotel is super easy! I just took the skybus from the Tullamarine airport & then they had deposited me right at the hotel front door using the free hotel transfer bus. I stayed at level 6 & from my room window I can see Melbourne central & the state library. Rooftop was amazing although I didn't have time to experience with the jacuzzi. Security is excellent since they provide you with an access card that you need to use for every single access to each level, door & even the toilets/bathrooms! I will definitely stay here again if I come to Melbourne again.

Awesome Hotel”

Room is spacious and clean, I especially like the big common kitchen where guests are allowed to cook and dine in. The hotel is located strategically in Melbourne CBD, short walking distance to major shopping malls, tourist attractions and Chinatown. The room is not expensive, value for the money. I definitely will stay here again for my next trip to Melbourne.

Good value for money”

Really good location within walking distance to the Melbourne CBD. Reasonable price for hostel-style accommodation. Down-point is the rooms have bad ventilation and air con that is on 24/7. A brand new, very cheap but tasty food and drinks sold at the cafe/restaurant/bar located on the ground floor of the hotel Chill out room and gym also on site.

A very nice backpacker hotel”

I did not expect that Space Hotel wil be that good having just arrived from Sydney where I stayed in another backpack hotel. The room is very nice and clean, the bedsheets are impeccably new, the amenities (kitchen, coffee preparation space, movie room, gym, etc.) are exceptional. I couldn't have asked for a better place to stay. I highly recommend it to travelers to Melbourne looking for a budget hotel.

Comfortable and Clean”

I stayed for two nights in a female dome at Space Hotel. I felt comfortable to stay there. it was very clean and well equipped. I forgot to bring my key for locking the locker, but I could get the new one easily from the vending machine in the hotel. It has the name of 'hotel' but I can say it's a hostel. I recommend my friends to stay there if they travel in Melbourne alone, because it was the best hostel among the hostels that I've ever stayed in many points like cleanliness, location, equipment, the reasonable fee!!

Perfection”

I was in Melbourne CBD for two nights. The location of this hotel is perfect, you could take the free city circle tram near the State Library of Victoria and explore the CBD area, the Queen Victoria Market, the iconic Flinders Train Station and visit the arty looking Hosier Lane. I stayed in the 6 bed mixed dorm and it was a pleasant stay. You have a shared private toilet and it is clean. The receptionists are friendly and kind. The hotel also has a balcony for guests to enjoy the CBD view at the 8th floor. Wi-fi was OK but it could be a little slow at times but overall a fantastic 2 night stay. Highly recommended!

Awesome Hostel!”

Space Hotel was by far the best hostel that I've ever stayed in! Although the facility was undergoing major renovations, the accomodations were quite nice. It is located near Melbourne Central shopping center, which makes getting to shops an easy task. Also, there are a ton of bars and restaurants on Russel St. Would definitely stay here again, especially after all of the renovations are completed.

I was so happy to have booked Space Hotel for my stay in Melbourne! The room was satisfactory, the toilets clean and facilities good. Best of all, it is located smack dab in the middle of the city with easy access to all the places of interest, cafes, restaurants and shopping centres in the city. Double thumbs up!

Excellent hotel near Queen Victoria Market”

This hotel is by far the cleanest dorm I have ever been to. It is very spacious. It has door access card for each person to access the rooms and other areas, an in-door dedicated locker for each person and dedicated reading lights as well as two power outlets to charge your phone, camera, etc. At the ground floor it has many internet terminals that you can rent for a reasonable fee as well as a cafe and pub. At the first floor, it has a gaming room where you will find some arcade and pinball machines. At level two is the in-house cinema with Cable TV feature. There is a lounge at level 3 and at level 4 is the spacious kitchen with multiple burners and fridge as well as a very spacious dining area. I highly recommend this place for any backpacker who wishes to put up the night in the city of Melbourne. Very clean, safe, friendly service and excellent facility.

The staffs are friendly and very helpful. I got to stay in twin room and the rooms are very clean with high quality bed and equipped with tv. Having a great time in Melbourne and good rest in the hotel. Shared bath rooms are clean and enough to cater for all. Facilities are fantastic - with movie room, fully equipped kitchen, dining place, gym, laundry room ! The hotel is near lygon street which comprises of good italian food, koko black and a lot... walking distance to bus stops, city trams. Simply love it!

A great SPACE in the CBD area!”

Highly recommended spot in the CBD area where everything is accessible. Best part, it has a nice view on the balcony facing Melbourne CBD complete with facilities like gym, kitchen, bar etc. The staff are very accommodating and friendly as well.

Great location”

Space Hotel has a great location - it is close to Melbourne Central station and Lygon St. It offers many facilities such as gym, cinema and roof deck but I didn't get the chance to experience any of those. The bed and toilet are clean so no complaints!
