The ultimate chill out”
Located right on the river, Samon Village is a great place to chill out. The bamboo huts are hidden in banana trees, the bar juts out over the river, and the communal bathrooms are very clean and well kept. Samon wants to educate his travellers and the locals of Kampot on Khmer culture. Once a week there is a traditional Khmer communal meal held at Samon Village which some locals attend and on another day, Samon takes his guests into a near by Village to have a meal with the locals. This educates travellers on the Khmer way of life, and teaches the locals that travellers are not a threat and that often they are very interested in the culture. Samon Village runs a system whereby a tab is set up under your room number, and payment is made on check out. It's great to not have to worry about carrying cash everytime you go to the bar. I'd recommend anyone to stay here, families, couples, backpackers...great place!

Lovely place”
Lovely stay at Samon village, very nice lounge on the river shore, with perfect music, food, with friendly staff.. For people who wants to be in peacefull atmosphere, a bit disconnected from the city but easy to reach by tuk tuk or even by foot.. A charming address for your stay in Kampot..

Relaxing and friendly”
My first night in Kampot was spent at Rikitikitava, so a complete contrast. That said I enjoyed my two nights at Samon Village as well, but for different reasons. It has a Bohemian atmosphere and you will find it an excellent place to chill out and meet fellow travellers in the common area. The cold showers are OK with me in the warm February climate, but a couple of strategically placed nails in each of the communal bathrooms would seem to me to be a tremendous improvement because there is basically nowhere to hang your clothes and towel (the same applies to the huts by the way). I tried to hang them over the bathroom door but they fell onto the sandy, wet floor. It can be done, but it's tricky! The huts are mostly two storey, with a futon bed upstairs, a 'normal' bed down and nice clean linen and towels on each bed. I slept downstairs and was quite comfortable; certainly not too hot at night. There are fans and lights in each room as well as a power point for charging your phone etc. The mosquito nets work well and you can also ask for mosquito coils as well, which I did, although there weren't too many mozzies about when I stayed. This place comes highly recommended from me. Bring along a hammer and a couple of nails if you want to improve this place even further. Enjoy!

unique!”
We stayed here for 2 nights but should have stayed for a 3rd night rather than moving further up the river. The treehouses are rustic but very clean (I especially enjoyed the coconut shower head in the bathroom). Samons Village has a great lazy laid back vibe the likes of which we haven't found anywhere else during our travels in SE Asia. To top it off, the staff is very friendly and tge food is delicious and cheap. I 100% recommend.

Fantastic!”
This property is absolutely wonderful. From the attentive and lovely staff to the beautiful river front location to the very cool tree top bungalows, Samon Village is a top notch place. I truly enjoyed my three day stay and wish I could have stayed even longer! Don't be deterred by the distance to town, it's an easy 25 minute walk or a quick tuk tuk ride.

Quaint, clean huts in a great atmosphere”
Samon Village greatly surpassed my expectations! Our first time staying in hut-like accommodations, we expected insect infestations, floods, plagues, etc, but staying in an elevated room was perfect. There were fewer pesky critters than in our apartment in Ho Chi Minh! We opted for a room with running water (unheated) which was completely comfortable (it stays at a refreshing room temperature). The restaurant, though it takes a serious amount of time for an order to be delivered to your table, is wonderful. We only had breakfast and drinks there, but the buffet dinners looked and smelled amazing. The options of seating on the veranda overlooking the water were so charming, a beautiful place to rest with a good book during the day as well as a friendly and lively place to grab a drink at night. Samon Village is about a $2-3 tuktuk ride from "downtown," walkable (if you're a walker.) Overall an enchanting stay.

Great place”
One of the best hotels I've been. In the shape of Khmer village, you are welcomed by a very friendly staff that wears the true cambodian smile! The bungalows are very comfortable and give you an amazing experience for your nights with the feeling of being outside and yet inside at the same time. The bar/restaurant area is well designed with hammocks, swing chairs, mattresses on the floor or chairs and acces to the river for a swim. Being a bit further away from Kampot's city center, the location is ideal if looking for a quiet place. The coconut showers are a blast and the lack of hot water doesn't pose any problem due to the high temperatures you get during the day! Would definitely recommend!

Excellent”
Samon village is a cosy place in front of the river. The only down thing is that there is construction work next door at the moment so it can get noisy. Otherwise I had a great stay, the bungalow I had was huge and the Khmer staff is absolutely lovely. Will definitely come back

Peaceful stay ”
I stayed at Samon village with my friends for a few nights, it was good value for money. We hired bikes from them in the day and drove to Kep. In the evening we sat by the river playing cards and drinking cocktails. The food is delicious. It was a pleasant and relaxing stay.

Nice environment but dun ask to call a tuk-tuk”
The environment in the hostel is so nice. They have a restaurant by the river. You can chill and have a drink by the river and enjoy the peaceful environment. The staff are so friendly. They smile all the time and are nice to answer your questions. This hostel is a quiet one. There were only few people you can meet. The mosquito net in the room was broken. and the electric power was cut at 10am. And they lock the door after 11pm. If you want to drive your scooter out after 11pm, you have to find the staff to open the door for you when you are going out and going back to the hostel. The tuk-tuk which the hostel helped to call was so bad. The tuk-tuk driver, who claimed he was the brother of the hostel restaurant's owner, asked me to pay for USD$8 to go to the town. My train ticket from kampot to phnom penh was $8 and this 15-min tuktuk ride cost me also $8? WTH? It cost me only $2-$3 by other drivers. But i was really in a hurry to catch the train so i just paid for it.

Basic but very nice and top staff”
2 km from the center of Kampot, quiet along the river, basic bungalows, a very nice and very good restaurant, a young team, pleasant, good english speaking, offering multiple possibilities on site and for the rest of the trip in Cambodia.

Pleasant place to stay”
I loved bungalows, not too many moskytosv and really relaxing place. If you in doubt of distance don't be worth pass app or tuk tuk possible to get you there (not expensive) it is like 2 km from city center maybe less. I recommend to rent motorbike directly from them.

Lovely getaway”
Had a two night stay, one night in the room with private bathroom, and second with the shared. Both were good, with bathrooms clean. Rooms are obviously basic as they are bungalows, but mosquito nets present to ward off bugs during the night. The restaurant set up is fantastic, so chill and felt like you had your own space even with other people there. Food was reasonably priced with staff attentive. About a 20 minute walk into town which is hard during the heat of the day, so be prepared to spend most of your time here unless you want to get a tuk tuk. Thanks for the lovely stay, hopefully will be back!

Not in the mood”
To be fair, when I arrived at Samon Village I had just been staying in other bungalows in Otres Village and dorms at a hostel on Koh Rong that didn't have electricity (so no fan) or running water. I was just not in the mood to deal with more super basic accomodations. Because at least the other bungalows and dorms had essentials like mosquito nets without holes- mine was so old and the holes were "fixed" with bandaids! That's just gross and unacceptable. The room was filthy- being alone, I could at least grab the bottom floor bed, but I feel bad for whoever has to sleep upstairs on the mouldy mattress on the floor. Coupled with giant chunks of bamboo missing from my hut's walls and hearing /smelling other guest's peeing under their own bungalows, I only lasted a night. They at least gave me my money back for the night I didn't stay, which I appreciated. I suppose if you were looking to rough it for a few nights with a group of friends and don't mind a few nights of squalor, it might be OK. But even trying to hang out in the restaurant area made me annoyed- the staff was playing horrible R&B/pop that was beyond grating and meant I felt I had no place to go as I couldn't sit in my hot, stuffy, dirty room or get into town easily (supposedly you can ride a bike but the day I was there the traffic was insane and it didn't seem safe to do, esp without a helmet).

Great place out of Kampot main town!”
The bungalows are all very clean and the beds are comfortable, with mosquito nets provided. There restaurant food is really good and a taff were amazing! Make sure you get a room away from the main road as it’s very busy with trucks and has a metal workshop opposite so can be very loud.

Very good”
Traditional rustic huts but clean and had the essentials. The food here is fantastic, staff is friendly and the village complex is super chilled and right by the river. It is further from the town centre so would need to bike, scooter or get a tuktuk in to town.

A very peaceful place”
The common area is the best. There are probably 18-20 huts on the property. Only one is actually on the river. The road can get the occasional truck or load motorbike but it is not normally an issue especially at night. There is a rooster who will make himself known first thing each day. If you are looking for a serene, comfortable, calm place. This is it.

Awesome hostel. Located on the river very scenic and peaceful. Great staff, very helpful, polite and good English. The distance to the city was no problem tuk tuk was $1-2 each way. Bikes were also available. Would highly recommend.
