A great alternative to White Sand Beach”

Saffron is a small resort of about 7 bungalows, a single restaurant, and a location which was just right for us. During our 5 night stay (early September, low season) we were the only ones at the resort. This allowed us to explore the reef just off the shore, take the kayaks out for a paddle (no charge), and make good use of the spacious deck. The staff was very friendly, spoke good to very good English, and made sure we were well looked after. As other reviews pointed out, the food here is excellent and there were people who came to enjoy it every night. We enjoyed it so much we didn't even leave to try the food elsewhere. There was plenty of variety for our 5 day stay. Even if you are just visiting Koh Chang, check it out (favourites: Massaman curry, green papaya salad, and baguettes) Regarding the location, the good news is Saffron is not on White Sand Beach. It is not one in a line of crappy bars and resorts. There are a few resorts in the area, but you have to look to see them. You will need sandals for the rocky waterfront but once past it, there is lovely swimming to be had. We would completely recommend Saffron to anyone going to Koh Chang or even to Thailand who wanted a lovely place to stay without having to tolerate all the stupidity more built up areas provide.

Very nice place”

Very beautiful, calm and quiet place, it was excellent to stay here. It's possible to have breakfast, lunch and dinner in Saffron restaurant itself, in street cafe on the main road (about 3 min by feet). Also there are two big supermarkets (Big C and Tesco) near Saffron. Very delicious Tom Yum! The nearest beach is very quiet and small, but it's pebbly (on the Koh Chang map it's called Pearl Beach). Beware if you don't like pebble, but it's very good choice if you don't like crowds. White Sand Beach is rather far, about 3 km. We can't use motobike, so we had to go by feet or by songteo. Use the mosquito repellent, there are a lot of mosquitos (but I think this is common problem of Thailand and other southern countries). Also we see a lot of lizards and Huntsman spider in the bathroom (beware if you have arachnofobia). But they don't bother us, they live there - of course, consider that you're nearly in the jungle :) This is excellent place if you don't like crowds and night life, for quiet rest. I highly recommend.

A hidden gem - amazing food, lovely staff!”

Me and my girlfriend loved this place! The Thai owner and staff was so friendly and helpful! And like most places in Thailand they didn’t bat and eye to the fact of us being two women. Our bungalow, out of only 7 in total, was great! It is definitely bungalow standard. Simple but clean, bright, spacious and comfortable. With a comfy bed, tv, air con, mini fridge to keep water cool etc. The small resort is quiet and cozy and you can easily grab a taxi to white sand beach for 50 bath, just ask the staff to call you a cab. Now let’s talk about the restaurant.....! The restaurant was beyond excellent. The first day, accompanied with a beautiful sunset right by the sea, we had fried fish with spicy mango salad.. -_- We thought we had died and come to heaven! Fortunately we didn’t die and were able to enjoy great breakfast and more food the day after! Yes, if you’re wondering...we did not eat anywhere else than at Saffron during our time there. We would definitely recommend this little gem to anyone that values calmness, beautiful views and sunsets, and good value for money! We hope to come back some day :)

Nice Hotel But Off The Beaten Path”

A very nice resort overlooking the sea. You can view amazing sunset every evening. Every rooms (and bathroom too!) is well curated and decorated; beautifully. To top it up, every bathrooms will be provided with luxury-nice-rosey-smell shower gel, shampoo and conditioner (in red, pink and light pink color). They are not your ordinary hotel's supplies. I believe this effort show's how they value their guests. Top notch quality for all their guests. The downside is just the location. It's far from all the interesting places in White Sand Beach . You may need to rent Motorbike (250 Baht per 24 hours) in order to commute easily. Cheers!

Great little resort on the water”

Had a great weekend staying at Saffron. It's about a quarter mile off the main road, so it's nice and secluded. The restaurant porch is just two meters from the beach. There is no sand, just large stones/pebbles. The staff are quite friendly, and they recommended a great seafood restaurant and arranged for a taxi for us as well. If you want the best experience, stay in room B1, which is the one in the very front by the sea and has a great sea view. It's not the most luxurious resort, so be prepared for a gecko or two in your room and to sleep under a mosquito net (though I personally didn't find it necessary.) The A/C works well, but the hot water in the shower only gets mildly tepid at best. If you absolutely MUST have a hot shower, look elsewhere. The food is great, the portions are large, and the service is fantastic. The som tam (papaya salad) was the best I've had in Thailand. Rates are very reasonable for food and lodging. There's a Tesco supermarket within walking distance, though not much else. You'll need wheels, a taxi, or rent a scooter from the hotel to get around best. They have two kayaks available free of charge to use in the bay. The wifi is sufficient and reaches most rooms, though it's a bit spotty at times. Overall, I HIGHLY recommend this place!

Beautiful authentic feeling small resort”

We really liked our stay at The Saffron! The location is beautiful and quiet, away from the mainstreet, right at the sea front, absolutely beautiful surroundings, very relaxing spot. It's very easy to rent a scooter from the hotel and drive to the nearest beaches, but we walked most of the time. Also the customer service at the hotel is superb, our hostess was so lovely! The room was cleaned every day and the room was simple but cosy, nice decor and super lovely balcony! Only thing I would like to have is a proper breakfast for the hotel guests - you can buy breakfast and delicious food from their restaurant, but still I'd rather prefer a proper classic buffet or maybe something specially made for the hotel guests? Cos it was a bit pricey.... Also a more comfier bed would be nice, it was quite uncomfortable, but we managed for the week. But all in all, the resort and the location and the views are amazing and I would definitelly recommend staying at The Saffron!

A fantastic quiet place to relax with great rooms, wonderful views and good food”

I ended up booking a room the same day as I was staying on lonely beach and didn’t care for it much. I arrived at sapphire and was pleasantly surprised. The room we received was front row overlooking the ocean and it was clean and super comfortable. The bed was nice and soft I have to say that I had to force myself to get up and do something otherwise I would have slept all day. There isn’t a beach but if you prefer to have a secluded view of the ocean it’s perfect. White sand beach is only a 5 minute drive away if you’re into that madness. The staff is extremely friendly and willing to answer any questions you may have. We liked this place so much we had to stay an extra night maybe two. It’s just to nice to leave.

We ended up extended our stay one extra day. It’s super quaint and cozy. The staff members were both helpful, fun and kind. We stayed in the garden unit and it was perfect to return to after a day at the beach. The door doesn’t quite close all the way at the top leaving a little gap but we just burned mosquito coils and had no issues with them. The ac worked great. There are a few grocery stores within walking distance and some roadside food stands. Our favorite was the last one on the left towards tesco :) it’s about 5 miles from Lonely beach (100 baht per person) and 1.5 from white sand (50 baht per person) they have free kayaks which is a nice touch. They even had a dj one night while we were there. Coffee is about 60 baht, large Chang is around 180 baht. The reasturant seemed to be popular. Would recommend for those looking for a quiet getaway. Female owned ✨

CLEAN, COMFORTABLE AND CHILL”

Really enjoyed our stay at Saffron it is quiet and located about 20minutes away from the hecticness of White Sand Beach. The food was delicious and the staff were very hospitable. Would definitely recommend for those seeking a quiet and chill atmosphere.

Lovely little beach bungalows”

I really enjoyed my stay in a cute little bungalow, the restaurant is amazing one of the best on the island and in a lovely setting right on the beach front. The beach is rocky so you can't swim there but it is easy to jump in a taxi or rent a bike to go a short distance to white sands beach or others situated south. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, I would definitely recommend staying or coming to the restaurant to enjoy incredible food.

Cute boutique hotel! ”

2-3 km or a good 20-30 minuts walk from White Sand beach is this little gem - we stayed for 2 nights. Staff er SO friendly, and the small bungalows is some of the prettiest we stayed in doing our backpacker trip. Nice, clean and white - good aircon, fridge and a very good bed and pillows! Beautiful view, with amazing sunsets. 2 Supermarkets 50m from the property - we could stay here for more nights, and in that case we recommend that you rent a scooter, easier to get to the beach ;)

Calm location by the sea. No beach but stunning sunsets. ”

We loved staying here mostly because the nice all white rooms, simple but recently renovated. Stunning sunsets every night. Great food but on the expensive side. You need a motorbike to get around, easily available on the main road for about 6USD per day. Supermarket close-by and can be convenient. Was nice to stay here and explore other beaches during the day. Make sure you have mosquito repellant - there are MANY around the resort. Also if you stay on the ground floor be aware that the ceiling is poorly isolated so you hear every single step your neighbors take, can get pretty annoying at times. The young thai lady owner is lovely.

Beautiful, peaceful place at a stone beach in a garden”

Very lovely place in Koh Chang we will go there again. last time we booked for two nights and then stayed 15 days. The food in the restaurant is delicious and the staff is very friendly. We loved the free kayaks you can use, the garden, the shadow, the location and the lovely ambience this place has. It's only minus is the stone beach when you want to make holidays at a beach. But we like to drive every day to a different beach, then is this the perfect place to be.

Tarzan lives here, great natural location”

Close to White Sand Beach, but away from the noise. Need a car/transport to get there. Very tranquil spot. Rooms are lovely(villa-style) with big balcony. Right on the waterfront(rocky). No tour buses, less than 20 rooms. Like living in the forest (avatar).

Lovely place , great for snorkelling and Sunsets”

I have been here previously and the resort has been updated to a better standard but the price was still very reasonable. The staff are Thai but speak perfect English and are polite and helpful. Be aware that although this resort is on the sea there is no sandy beach but the snorkelling is very good here.

Nice stay, pleasant staff, great food”

I booked for 3 days, sea view bungalow and ended up staying an extra day. Room was basic but clean, location quiet and peaceful with good views, staff were friendly and restaurant was excellent. You can walk to the main town area but it may be a little far for some, perhaps better off with a bike. Taxis run often so it's not hard to flag one down, 5 minute trip. There's a supermarket a few minutes walk away. I enjoyed my stay at this hotel and will likely stay again if I return to Koh Chang.

Stop looking... this is what you need”

We had such a great time here! Great staff and Lovely huts. Dont even get me started about the food ... (10+ stars) there may not be a sandy beach infront but this way its very private and the view is stunning. we saw this as a way to go out exploring. Its very easy to rent a scooter here! Believe me when i say that you will not regret booking this place. I want to Thank the staff again for being very helpfull. If we come back to Koh Chang do doubt that we will go here again.

Perfect for a relaxing weekend!”

I loved staying at Saffron! I was on a solo trip and really enjoyed working from my bungalow (good wifi in the room) and chilling in the garden. Also loved the staff - very caring and professional. I live in Bangkok and think that the restaurant is very good though a bit pricy compared to other places: but that's the price to pay for a table on the ocean - and portions are huge and very well curated anyways! Two things to mention: first, the location is great for couples/families - if you are looking for bars and nightlife you should consider renting a scooter (Lonely Beach is 30 mins away). Second, please don't freak out if you see a gecko in the room: the bungalows are very clean but don't forget that you are in the jungle! Overall, highly recommended.

Превосходный дизайн бунгало и территории, очень уютная и приятная атмосфера. Расположение прямо на берегу, очень удобно, недалеко до любых пляжей (особенно, если у вас есть байк) Нет посторонних шумов, дорога далеко, шумных баров по соседству нет (Но есть в 5 минутах езды на байке) Ресторанчик отеля прямо на воде, за чашкой кофе приятно слушать шум океана. Отличное место для тех кто ищет спокойной обстановки и романтики. / Excellent design of bungalows and territory of the hotel, very cozy and pleasant atmosphere. The location is right on the beach, very convenient, close to any beaches (especially if you have a bike) No extraneous noise, the road is far away, noisy bars are in 5 5 minutes ride by bike. Restaurant directly on the water. sitting with a cup of coffee you can listen to the sound of the ocean. A great place for those who are looking for a quiet environment and romance.

Quiet and relax stay”

Although no have sand beach, the views to the sea and it sounds its’s a good present for senses. 3minutes in moto to WhiteSandBeach you can rest in this lovely and watm place, cheaper than most of the places around. Very nice.
