KwaZulu-Natal hotels & places to stay

We arrived at 08:30am due to early flight. Even though check-in only 14pm they tried their best to accomodate us early. Even though they only managed to arrange room by 13:45pm they made an effort to give us the best room to make up for our waiting. They had a very spacious, comfortable & clean lounge for us to settle & wait for our room & stored our baggage until room was ready. The room was clean & spacious with a lovely view of the ocean. The breakfast buffet was really good. The restaurant was on the roof of the hotel so had a balcony & lovely view of the ocean. Service very friendly & helpful. We usually stay in Umhlanga when down at the coast but booked Belaire's since perfect location to catch the MSC Cruise from the Port. Also 500m walk to Sun Coast Casino for Entertainment & Restaurants. Will definitely choose Belairs Suites again if we every stay in Durban. Thank You Belaire Suites

The location is great, literally 5 minutes walk to the beach, main promenade and restaurants. The hotel is nice. You get what you pay for. The rooms are comfy and neat. The term "Ocean View" is loosely held, if you're happy with a slight glimpse of the ocean between the buildings but the beach is across the road so you can hear and smell it all the time which is great. Only two downfalls of this hotel, you pay for the parking per night and then the parking facilities are small and lousy albeit secure. I feel like at a star rated property (even though its only 3 stars) the least they can offer is secure parking for guests or at least inform guests before time of the charge. Lastly, some of the staff was less then friendly. Every time i contacted the hotel before our stay i waited 2 days for a response and on check in as well. Unaccommodating, unsmiling front desk staff. The Two Shining exceptions were Logan at the front desk and Sifiso at the Bar. They were wonderful to deal with. All in all a good experience, pretty, comfortable, value for money with direct beach access. Would definitely stay again and recommend to friends.

This hotel is in a perfect location and beautiful setting. It is perfect for travellers planning to hike in the Royal Natal National Park which is virtually next door. The gardens are immaculate although the pool needs extra cleaning. The food was plentiful but basic. We stayed in a refurbished bedroom with balcony which was clean and adequate There are lots of improvements required throughout but hopefully the newly appointed manager will exploit the amazing potential of the hotel and significantly raise the current standard of food and accommodation

I really loved the location, it changed my dbn visit for the first time in my life....... facilities was good.... I visited and called the hotel for an early check in which I was advised the hotel was fully booked, which is understandable. ...However the room was still not ready by 2:30..... What i did appreciate was being upgraded to executive room.... Another point to note....i also requested twin beds.....which was noted prior to my visit.....because my visit was so quick......and I had appointments ect.....i had no time to mention this....and my brother had to sleep on the couch........... Apart from that the room i was allocated was awesome in terms of comfort.....The staff was really helpful as well. time is very important if your booking for a day....and details requested(twin beds) I do come to gateway often which a group of people.....who often ask me for recommendations..... Many thanks.

Booking in was well organised, just disappointed that even though I sent e-mail and contacted property my children were not added to the booking., however it was dealt with and breakfasts were booked to the room. Waterpark is amazing loved it, even grandparents were up to having a ride on the slides. Although we had bad weather the kids were well entertained with excursions to mac banana with adventure zipline and put put. At the hotel the games are plenty. Children are safe and can enjoy some freedom. Restaurants were well runned, only item I felt was very expensive were drinks (soft drinks) especially at chico restaurant however juice, tea and coffee is available at breakfast at no charge. Manghwanani Spa was a huge disappointment I will not book again I feel there are better service and prices of the property.

I stayed at this hotel for 13 nights, the food was tasty, and if you wanted to chop and change a couple of bits they were more than happy to accommodate if they could, the restaurant staff mainly Sisandra she is an absolute credit to the hotel bright, smiley & very friendly, the rooms are cleaned daily to a high standard and fresh towels daily, a little stroll to the beach and other restaurant and shops, the pool area is so chilled out just what one needed after a busy day in the city, I will certainly be staying at this hotel again when I’m back in Durban Thank you all

We enjoyed our stay at the City Lodge even though the Trainee wrongfully charged my card while i had already made the payment. The next time we travel to Durban again it will be our 1st hotel to book. We only struggled with food as the light meals on the menu were not appetising. But for a 3 star hotel it is the best. We will come back again very soon n the WiFi is super fast uploading our memories to social networks was easy.

The staff are friendly but speaking from experience need to better understand the needs of their patrons...parking arrangements were not explained...assistance with luggage was not offered...the wifi password was not listed or provided nor was I informed as to the spa services on offer. For a 4 star establishment the furniture and general upkeep of the room and of certain fixtures were in a state of disrepair or damaged. I found the menus in particular the breakfast menu a little boring and left you with little choice...my personal dining experience left me wanting after ordering twice from the menu only to be told that in the middle of the week you had run out of certain food items I was quiet disappointed...I like your establishment and would love to return and would definitely rave about my stay even more if only these minor details were rectified I am sure it would not take much. Look forward to it.

I cant fault my time here at this hotel. As with most Hiltons the service was great and promt. Very clean and modern hotel in a convenient location. Food and drinks are very reasonably priced considering this is a 5 star hotel and good value I found, good quality & choice. The pool area is not that big, but it’s very clean without getting sore eyes from too many chemicals in water as many pools have in hotels. It has large gym too and well equiped. Hertz is in the basement car park. Very convenient considering Cabs in South Africa are expensive and hard to find. Durban has many more cabs that Joburg, but could still do with more and I recommend booking cars in advance of planned stays. This hotel is walkable to beach and near bye Shops, banks and markets. Really enjoyed my stay here and can recommened.

This place was amazing, spotlessly clean, great finishes, beautiful sea views, it truly is a five star hotel with comfortable beds. i stayed during the low peak time,it was value for money, we got to use the spa facilities - steam room and detox pool complementary to the room and the staff were very professional and friendly. i loved everything about this place. just a pity we stayed for one night, will definitely be back.

Honestly everything was perfect for me, we enjoyed Durban and we managed to explore more. Agoda, best Customer service, best communication, and indeed I did safe money. I did enjoy my stay at Balmoral Hotel. Best food, Best Customer Service. I am indeed using both Agoda and Balmoral hotel next time when I visit Durban. Thank you, Very Thank you. I wish I could take a video to express how I feel. I am happy

Beig a family of 5 and finding a suitable accommodation is not easy. The Urban Park Hotel, however, checked all the boxes. Friendly staff, our interleading room setup was simply magnificent, with a nicely equipped self-catering kitchen. Beds, linen & towels always fresh and room servicing done efficiently with a smile. The secure undercover parking provided easy access to our rooms. I have utilised many hotel gyms in the past and this is the best. New equipment with good weight stacks and an aerobics floor and many accessories too. Pool is long for some good lengths too. Great cappuccino's at the downstairs restaurant which was immaculately maintained. Fastest checkout ever. Will definitely recommend !

I really like the hotel except for the fact that, to get wifi, you have to be in the public areas. For a five star hotel this is diabolical. Heck, I've got wifi in every room in my house!! How difficult can it be for a five star hotel. Increase rates if you need to and hide the costs of it there. Second biggest problem I had with this hotel is the fact that the Bar Fridges have not just been emptied, they have even been switched off. Worse, you only discover this when you get to your room. No one informs you of this when you check in so that you can request them to stick the fridge or at least switch it on so that you can have ice cubes and cold water whenever you want. When I enquired about the empty Bar Fridge I was told it's because people steal drinks. Really??? Every hotel on earth has measures to curb this. How about investing in technology that electronically and remotely records each item as it gets removed from the fridge. These guys are not serious about running a five star hotel. A pity cause the hotel itself is beautiful and has unparalleled sea views

Excellent staff, Professional, Courteous, Humble , Helpful and Joyous. Mr. Kramer the General Manager leads by example. His staff emulate him in every way. I wish that I had a leader like him when I started out in my career. I learnt so much looking at him and his team that I have applied his magic with my team. We were teatted like royalty and every wish was fullfilled. Breakfast and dinner was excellent in every way. Rooms were neat and clean and extremely comfortable......I never received service like this in other 5 Star establishments. I truly felt humbled by the treatment we received.

Nambiti Plains was a wonderful lodge in a stunning location. The staff were all brilliant, they were helpful , happy and to a person could not do enough for you. The lodge had a wonderful manager who cared for everybody and did so much to help us celebrate a special anniversary. Lastly, our guide was great, with real knowledge of the animals and habitat within the reserve. Our game drives were informative and exciting and he was able to track down 4 of the big 5 with only the illusive leopard avoiding us! We did not want to leave.

I stayed here as it is 2 minutes walk to the 6.15am meeting place for the Natal Shark Board Tagging Tour and it was certainly very convenient for that. However, the hotel is rather odd, claiming that it is 3 star but the rooms are tiny and quite basic and restaurants are also quite basic. However, the hotel staff were great, with the night guard being kind enough to walk me to the wharf as it was at night and the streets quiet. The cooridor to my room was up and down mini flights of stairs which is a pain with luggage and WORST OF ALL, not lit at night so I had to use my handphone to guide myself out!

My booking wasn't in in the system and was asked to move to another hotel but couldn't as it was 20 minutes away so I got a room eventually but the TV and kettle didn't work, so were replaced, there was no hairdryer but when asked I got one and when I eventually took a shower, realised it leaked water onto the bathroom floor. The WIFI signal is so weak, it keeps losing connection so I used my phone's data eventually. When I asked if breakfast was included in my rate the next morning I was told "no". I would've made an exception if I was the manager of the establishment, to make up for all the fails. This establishment won an award in 2016, but seems nothing has happened since then and maintenance is not a priority.
