Where to stay in Badulla District
Badulla District hotels & accommodations

We spent 2.5 weeks travelling around Sri Lanka and stayed in everything from basic hotels to 5 star resorts and Misty Hills was the real surprise. Best value for money of any of the hotels. The photos on their or Agoda's website doesn't do the rooms or the view justice. The views are spectacular. They were in the process of finishing renovations - for the better. The r...

Hotel OnRock was at the more expensive end of my accommodation selection in Sri Lanka, but I was not disappointed. I needed to use the business facilities during my stay, and no request was too difficult for the brother and sister team who manage the hotel. My laundry was done in less that 24 hours. The room was clean, had a very comfortable bed, private bathroom with ...

We stayed 2 nights end of March and had a wonderful time. The forest pavilion is just lovely and had a large thick mosquito net over the bed if you are scared of insects at night. The swimming pool area is charming and very calm. The hotel is located a short walk from Diyaluma waterfall and its own private waterfall. Very relaxing stay with great staff and food, a litt...

We had a nice big room with a modern bathroom. The cleaning in the hotel corresponds to European standard and is really very good. Breakfast is available in Sri Lanka or continental style and both taste very good. Our kids (5 and 9) liked the continental style with fresh eggs, toast and fresh fruits. The hotel is centrally located on a hill and is therefore quieter ...

Great hotel and welcoming staff who were always on hand to help out with booking or recommending activities, giving directions and sorting out transport. Close to centre of town and restaurants if you want to eat out but you can also eat in hotel restaurant/bar. Lovely pool, spa and accommodation; particularly enjoyed relaxing in the hammocks on our balcony.

Its a fairly new hotel, so it's very clean and well maintained. the owners are very friendly and helpful. Totally value for money and an awesome location coz its easy to get to all the attractions around ella from the hote and also walking distance to most of the popular eateries. Highly recommended.

THE LOCATION OF THIS HOTEL IS EXCELLENT AS IT OVERLOOKS A WATERFALL. THE STAFF AND THE FOOD ARE EXCELLENT. EVERYBODY GREETED US WITH AN EVERLASTING SMILE ON THEIR FACE. MY SON HAD FALLEN ILL AND THE AMOUNT OF CARE AND COOPERATION THAT I GOT FROM EVERYBODY IS WORTH MENTIONING. THIS IS THE BEST HOTEL THAT I HAVE EVER STAYED DURING MY STAY AT SRI LANKA.

The staff are very helpful , just ask them and they are there for you . Mr. Ash at the reception is just an amazing young guy who enjoy to help you . The location of the hotel is 100% perfect . On the main road where all the restaurants and bars exist . If you can afford the price than I advise you that you will not find a better hotel than this one . The perfect selec...

Quirky rooms and decor throughout the hotel - everything is unique and individual to the room / floor. The staff were lovely and really helpful, especially the housekeeping guys. Views of Little Adam's Peak were amazing. Rooms were clean, comfortable and spacious. Unfortunately the Tv's in the room didn't work and wifi was sketchy at best - but we didn't go there to wa...

Please note this hotel is in Haputale about 2 hours from Nuwara Eliya. This resort is in the mountains away from almost everything. There are tons of monkeys that play in the natural waterbeds later in the day. We watched them for about an hour. It was so cool to see. If you are looking for relaxing, peaceful atmosphere where the staff is willing to do whatever to make...

Buidling is new as expected but got shocked rooms cleanliness doesn't match and many things missing: Nokettle though brought when requested. No tea-coffee. Only 1 littre bottle of water for a tripple room. Third bed matress is shorter than the bed. Bathroom window open on corodidor(no one can see but they can hear you). Windows not sealed and can invite insects and gek...

This small and elegant hotel has lovely grounds and elegant rooms ( ours had an amazing bathroom ). The new rooms are almost ready and are stylish and spacious. The pool was clean and warm and the food was delicious and really nice to be able to dine out under the stars. The staff were all gracious and helpful and extremely welcoming. The chef is really very good. ...

The hosts/owners were so friendly and helpful. They made our stay and our experience of Sri Lanka very special. The resort is walking distance from both the 9-arch bridge and Little Adam's Peak. It's a 1km nice walk or a tuk tuk ride into Ella. A very natual and generally peaceful place (just some traffic noise). Surrounded by trees and we even saw small and large squ...

Even though it is a very simple accomodation the view would be the best in Ella and we had our on private balcony which was great to sit out on at look at views. It was easily accessible and close to town.Staff friendly .The only negative there was no choice for food and you got bottled water on first day and had to ask for room to be done

it's a modern villa tucked into the valley. we enjoyed our stay but there is not much to do. the dipping pool was too cold to swim (and too many bugs) and there is no wifi. we ran around in the tuktuk and visited a nearby village. the waterfall is nothing fantastic. please note that there are only two suites. the people running the hotel (at least on the prem...

I had a fantastic time at Ella's Edge Resort. I was traveling alone and the staff did all they could to make sure I was comfortable. Everyone was extremely nice and the food was amazing. The cook at the hotel is named Amarawonsc and he makes an excellent curry that changes each day. The kitchen is out in the open and you can peer over the edge and watch to see how they...

Me and my boyfriend ended up staying here for 3 nights and it was by far our best time in Sri Lanka. Our room was huge and clean with a TV with all sky channels. The guest house is ran by 3 people and the service was outstanding. Nothing seemed like too much trouble. We loved the food and ate all of our meals at Eees Cart. The young guy was brilliant and took us for a ...

What amazing view from this hotel! We had the top floor room as we had read up on the hotel and people said the top was the best and they weren't wrong. The staff were incredible. They arranged a tour guide to take us up Ellas rock and even booked us a taxi for our travels down to Yala! The breakfast was amazing the only downside to it was the bed sheets need renewing ...

One place in Sri Lanka where we would just love to relax, looking out to the great scenery from our room. Hotel staff, especially Shiraj was simply outstanding, attentive and informative. Close to Ella train station. We took and experience a 1 hr train ride from Ella to Badulla to enjoy the nice scenery. Ella Nature View is one place that I would come back for.

The resort is well placed for a chilled out break set within a Tea Plantation and lovely views, an interesting 15 minute walk into main street Ella (Tuk Tuk available for around 300 SLR). The staff are helpful and diligent and a special mention to the owner Rowan who far exceeded any service level to date, he runs the resort with passion and is genuinely a 'nice guy'. ...

Tea Garden Holiday Inn was a pleasant place to stay in. The rooms are decent, clean and have a great scenic view with good working order internet. The staff were friendly, polite and very attentive. Never really got to meet or know the owner. The breakfast was simple but very nice....toast ( bread was lovely and fresh), fresh tea, fresh fruit, eggs, butter and jam...so...

We had wonderful stay at this budget hotel. Rooms are spacious and comfortable, with spectacular views. On top the owner himself make sure u have good stay. Hotel cannot be reached on own car or taxi, as it's inside mountain with narrow road. How ever this is not an issue but advantage since it add to location of hotel which is inside the green mountains. You just need...

The hotel is located less than 10 min walk into Ella high street which wasn’t a problem at all, plus the owner always offers to take guests out in his Tuktuk! The rooms are a decent size with large balcony with mountain views which are amazing! Breakfasts are huge! The owners are really lovely

Very easy to get to from the station - turn left when leaving, walk down the hill, take a left and walk about 300m with a right at the police station. It's only a 10min walk to Ella main street, but you feel like you're in the forest in the evening, which is great. Three room homestay, with friendly host. Nice veranda at front for breakfast and sitting out. There's als...

Presentable hotel in good plce myself and my wife had a good time here we booked one night it was amazing but i have seen one negotiation in this hotel that bcoz address was wrong we have to ask some people to where it was located before get down from the train thanks a lot sasi and staff

We travelled from Kandy to Ella BT train which is a 6 hour journey through some very pretty terrain. We spent two wonderful nights in this hotel and were so glad that we did as the rooms have huge comfortable beds and nice soft towels. The views from all room are fantastic and each room has a balcony area to sit on and admire the mountains and beautiful gardens. Del...

Absolutely loved our stay here for three nights which was perfect amount of time in Ella. After reading other reviews We booked the double room with mountain view which is at the front right of property. Definitely the best room as it is has both best privacy and best views. Most others have good views also except maybe the two nearest the road. Location is great, far...

Hotel was charming, surrounded by a lovely garden, perched on a hill in the city center. Not a modern five star. Rather a quirky heritage hotel. Wifi only really worked in the lobby and restaurant, but there was a beautiful Christmas tree, couches, fireplace. There as well as a fireplace in the .charming bar. The room key is about 4 “ long and brass. Service wa...

From the moment we arrived, we were made to feel welcomed. Nandana, the manager greeted us & took us to our room & made sure we had what we needed. We were enchanted by the amazing view of Ella from our room! Wow, spectacular view! The room was large, clean, & comfortable. It had a sitting area & balcony with chairs to sit & enjoy the view. Needless to say, we slept we...
Cheap places to stay in Badulla District

We stayed there for two nights and every things were just perfect ! Plus the view is spectacular! Great room, great people, delicious breakfast and dinner.... in a quiet environnement. There is not much to say more than you should definitely stay there if you are planning a trip to Haputale !

We enjoyed our stay here and staff are very attentive. The room was clean and comfortable, location was centeral and breakfast was good and filling. We stayed here two nights and the WiFi didn't work (was connected but couldn't load anything) and also no hot water in the evenings - seems to run out. Also to note was that we booked room with balcony but it seems all r...

Possibly the best place to stay in Ella. Cheap room with a grand inclusive breakfast. A four bed mixed dormitory with mosquito net provided. Wonderful view of the valley. If you don't mind walking up and down switch backs, potentially in the dark, then it is the perfect place to stay on a budget. If you will be too tired from hiking all day to make the trek back up the...

They rebuild the guest house at the moment, so the owner was a little shocked that there was a booking of his hotel He could not check his Agoda and booking account In front of the hotel was a big site and first impressions were not good. But after our two nights we must say: Rooms were good and clean Staff was very friendly Breakfast was good And everything went wel...

we originally booked for one night here but stayed for longer due to it being a wonderful experience. The owner and staff were so friendly and attentive to our needs. So helpful with telling us all we needed to know about going for a trip to liptons factory and plantation. The home cooked food here was nothing short of amazing!! it was a real treat to have authenti...

Firstly, the location of this place is fantastic with local shops, the bus stop and train station all being close by. The room itself had a great view of the hills and is clean and tidy... enough (you get what you pay for!) the only downfall I can think of is noise. Being that the guest house is located on the main road and has a thin window, things got a little loud....

The hostel is quite isolated from the city, but nothing that you cannot walk. Unless you also take holidays from staying bait healthy and wanna move around with overpriced, mafia-controlled tuk tuks. It is around 30-40 minutes walking to the city of Ella, but it is also walking distance to Little Adam's Peak and 9 Arch Bridge... or 7 Arch... anyways famous bridge. Ther...

Very attentive staff who cooked delicious food and even packed us a free breakfast for our trip to Hortons Plains, having to get up at 4:30 to do this! The room had a balcony with a great view of the landscape, and location was good and easy to find from train station. Booked a Hortons Plains trip and shared a car with other travellers from the guesthouse which made it...

The 3 guys that run this place are really nice, always smiling and ready to help. The food was the best sri lankan food we had so far. Large bedroom with balcony and a view on mountains. Quiet location, little bit far from the center, but they arranged tuktuk rides easily. Only problem was when we left, we had already pay and they said we didn't, but now that's the boo...

They don't seem to realise they advertise on Agoda, the staff insisted they are only on booking.com but since they had free rooms they let us stay. The room was spacious, clean and so was the bathroom. There was a constant draft even though we closed all windows and during the night it got uncomfortably cold. WiFi was slow and only available in the common room.

We took the train from Kandy to Ella and stayed in Ella for one night before continuing our trip to Arugam Bay on the East Coast of Sri Lanka. Breakfast was very delicious with Dhal, Coconut Sambal, Toast, Pancakes and jam, Omelette, stuffed spaghetti-roll, fresh juice and coffee. It was more than enough! The manager also picked us up in the city late afternoon and dro...

The guest house was located approx 2km away from the Ella city which is convenient if ur traveling by a car or bike. Place was definitely worth the money and can accommodate up to 4 people at once. If ur traveling by a car, parking would be bit of a process since the house is located in a small hill and u have to bring the vehicle up carefully. Bikes and hatchback ca...

I strongly reccomend to stay at Rosenka Inn, Jagath and his family have been the best guests in my entire stay around Sri Lanka. First mention for the food that Jagath's wife prepares, really traditional but light and absolutely delicious (dinner, lunch, breakfast). Located just outside Haputale (where there is nothing to see particularly), the rooms are very clean an...

I stayed there with two of my friends in a family room, which had very big beds with very comfy pillows :) we had breakfast there too, which was huge and delicious, lot of fruits and traditional sri lankan dishes. The family is very friendly and helpfull. The house is pretty hidden but that is its charm and advantage, its hidden from the party hassle you get closer to ...

We loved our stay here! I was pleasantly surprised by the size and comfort level of the room and bathroom for the price. Please bear in mind this is not a hotel but more like an inn or homestay, run by the family. Their house is separate so it is private. Quite a new building and everything was spotlessly clean and comfortable. No AC or fan, but the cooler night air ma...

Stayed 5 nights and was the best accommodation during 1 month in Sri Lanka. Superb local breakfast, excellent 1 day tour and location in the valley perfect. 1Km walk on train tracks to Ella centre. Easy to walk to Ella Rock and Mini Adams Peak. Well done Mohomed and family.

I was a solo traveller and my hosts couldn’t do enough to make sure I felt at home and safe! The room was clean and bed was comfortable! There are a few bugs that managed to creep in the room but there is a mozzie net so no issues there! The only thing is that the location is slightly different to what’s on the map, it’s about a 5 minute walk from where it actually say...

Although Ella South Star was quite deep inside the village, it was quite difficult to locate at night, we had to get the Staff to stand by the roadside. Overall the room was clean & we were provided with excellent home breakfast. The Staff was very cordial and the service was more than satisfactory. The morning view from the room was indeed very beautiful.

The owner waited for us on the railway station and took us to the house for free. There is a beautiful view from the house. It is located in a quiet part of town in the street to the Adisham Monastery (about 20 min by walk), only a few houses in neighborhood and near some tea plantations. There is lukewarm water but low pressure. Breakfast (bread & jam) is almost the ...

the room is right next to the dinning area, so u dont get much privacy. but you do have a curtain to cover is all, so not a big issue. bathroom is very clean. no hot water but weather was hot. room was clean, comfy beds. breakfast was ok but no commumication between staff and travelers. the only time we talked was that, we asked us to pay the room and check out when we...

This place is a must. Ella Valley will stay with you forever. I guarantee thst. The views are exceptional, rooms are clean and comfortable, hospitality is 100% and breakfast are huge and very tasty. Coffee is also very good. just stay here and find out for yourself. My best stay in Sri Lanka.

The view here made our stay. The host lady was very polite and made us a lovely dinner one evening. But above all we just loved sitting on the table outside the room staring into the trees and the waterfall beyond. We saw peacocks, monkeys, woodpeckers and lots more in the trees. The beds were comfy with good mozzie nets. Warm shower too. The internet worked ok but we ...

There is a kid speaking fluent English which impressed me most. The whole family is very helpful! Quite place. I woke up with a fantastic sun rise view out of the window. Shower with hot water is very nice. On the road back to the hostel, U will see a clear sky with tons of shining star at night. Big surprise! Highly recommended!

If you’re looking to escape the hustle and bustle of Ella city then look no further. Chika’s family and guesthouse was exactly what we needed, a place to stay in the hilltops of Ella away from the noise. You get a gorgeous view of Ella rock and sun rise from the terrace. Chika was very attentive but never overbearing. Coffee and tea always offered. Breakfast and dinner...

I and my wife were there for 2 nights on out honeymoon and loved the place! The location and the view was breathtaking! Only negative fact was that the air-con was not working due to some power problem. However, since its not that warm and very windy we did not feel it too much. It is a bit out of the way and the road to the location is broken which also adds to the ad...

I cannot do anything but applaud the staff for their hospitality, especially as they drove from the hotel and delivered my passport to me as the train was leaving the station. Thank you guys! They were also very considerate and helpful during our stay. The place has so much potential, but right now they are pricing themselves too high. The food was OK, no more no le...

We had a really good time and were well looked after by the superb staff. Our room had sweeping views down the valley and towards Ella town. The hotel is reached by a steep and narrow road which means that it is away from the traffic but still within walking distance of the railway station and the town.

The hostel is quite isolated from the city, but nothing that you cannot walk. Unless you also take holidays from staying bait healthy and wanna move around with overpriced, mafia-controlled tuk tuks. We totally fell in love with this place the moment we stepped foot here. The views are incredible. The rooms are huge with balconies that overlook the tea plantations and mountains. It’s right next to the trail up to Little Adam’s Peak, which we did at sunrise. We also rented bikes from the resort and went cycling around the tea plantations and down to Nine Arches brid...

Simply amazing! Dayani was there and coordinated everything. She was very attentive but not intrusive and made sure we were well taken care of. The food was on demand, they can make whatever you want and it tasted amazing! It was the best food I had in Sri Lanka! The garden was beautiful, the view overlooking the tea plantation, and the fireplace in the living room, oh...
