Palace Hotel is a wonderful place to stay”

Palace Hotel was the best hotel we could have chosen for our trip to Beijing. It is a 5 to 10 minute walk to the Forbidden City, Temple of Heaven, Snack Street and the shopping street. There is a great Peking Duck restaurant right at the end of the alley. One block up are all sorts of restaurants, stores and fun things to do. The staff is wonderful! They do not speak much English and I only knew a little Chinese, but we had no problem understanding each other as they use a very cool app to translate. We got to the hotel around 10pm and let them know we were hungry. We asked where to go to grab something to eat. They opened the kitchen and made noodles for us. The noodles were delicious. The Hotel is very charming. It is a block down an alley. You ring the bell to get in. The main courtyard is beautiful. There are plants and flowers everywhere. There are carvings and painting all over. Our room was huge! There were two big king sized beds. We were on the third floor. I would recommend this hotel for anyone wanting an authentic stay in a small hotel. That is in a great area.

Fantastic find in Beijing”

Palace Hotel Forbidden City was fantastic. Lovely hotel, with authentic feel. Great location 5mins walk to Forbidden city, on quiet back streem but only a few mins walk from main road with lots of eating, shopping etc. 15min walk to main shopping area and subways. Be aware if going during golden week (Oct) that streets around here get closed so was a little tricky, but any other time of year shouldn't be a problem and would highly recommend. Staff were extremely helpful, very little english but we got by no problem with help of phone translate. We arrived at 3am so worried we wouldn't get access, but staff had stayed up to let us in. Great service.

Great traditional chinese style hotel near Forbidden City”

The hotel is in the Hutong traditional Chinese style homes and is only 10 minutes to the forbidden city and Tianmen subway. Also very close to Wanfuling shopping area. The staff was nice and helpful with limited english. We had a large room with 3 beds for a family of 4 (2 teenage boys) for about $150 US per night include good western/chinese breakfast Clean room, mattress & pillow. The bathroom was decent. The shower area had molds but good hot & cold water. The hotel has no sign . It is in the alley, very hard to find and is across from a famous Beijing Roast Duck Restaurant that you have to wait for almost 2 hrs to get in. Hence, get a number and check back with them later. The Forbidden City was crowded. Bring passport to purchase ticket. Don't buy the ticket at the first entrance. This ticket just allow you to see the tower at the front entrance not the Forbidden City. If you see the tower, you have to check in any bags that are greater than a 5x4 square inch size and be sure to pick up your bags when you exit the tower before entering the Forbidden City since it is a one way entrance. They won't let you to come back out unless you show them your tower/bag check tickets and explained in mandarin that you need to return there. The Forbidden City is amazing. Make sure to see the gallery on both sides if you have time. Plan to spend about 3 hrs there. Lots of walking and steps. Other areas to see include: Summer Palace, Zoo (very cheap only 19 RMB/ticket ~$3.00). Go to Simatai Great Wall over the other tourist areas if you can. Great view with a traditional chinese Wtown below. Check out the Red Theater Kungfu show and take express airport subway to the airport- much faster and cheaper than by car/taxi to avoid the terrible Beijing traffic & congestion. It is our 1st time traveling on our own to 7 cities in China and had a great time without joining any tour group. The subway and speed train is your best mode of transportation in large city like Shang

Step into serene China of old. ”

This was an exceptional experience. The location couldn’t be better: walk to Forbidden City, Tiannamen Square,National Museum, subway, mall, vendors, guide services. The building itself: hutong of old nobility, royal, fine, restful. The service: most accommodating, cheerful, quick. (My good rating for cleanliness is because the bathroom shower could have been scrubbed a little better, maybe a little bleach could help.) From American Housewife.

Great location and charming hotel”

Staff was very helpful and friendly. The room was clean and tucked away inside a beautiful courtyard. We had three full beds and one queen bed which was just perfect for our family of five. Location was awesome. We walked to the Forbidden City and Tian’anmen no problems. Also a short walk from the new WC Center.

Right next to forbidden city and one of the few well preserved court yard that will bring you back to the old times. Especially good for large family with multiple beds. Other than narrow street alley and lack of a/c in some common area, we loved place.

Good simple hotel”

We stayed in this hotel for two nights in July and were very happy with the location, room size, and air conditioning, Our only issue was finding the hotel, which would be easy if there weren't a sign sending us the wrong way. If you are coming from the Tiananmen East subway station, as you go north up Nanchizi ("Chizi St. S. if you are following google maps), there is a big blue English sign that says "Pudisi West Alley", which is exactly what you think you are looking for. But the hotel is actually not on that street. You have to keep going, and the next street (or maybe two streets down) you make the right. You can see the "Palace Hotel" hanging sign in the distance from Nanchizi St.

good experience in a hutong hotel”

unique experience. the hotel is converted from a hutong. nicely designed, the glass roof, floor and lift. the location is good, near the palace, the metro, and wangfujing. restaurants, shops after just a few steps away. the staff are friendly the minus is that the toilet is the old style, that u have to throw the paper in a bin. Tip: keep the toilet door closed and the sink stopper closed, this will greatly reduce the smell.

Beware! To find this hotel do NOT use Google Maps but look for the address given by Agoda. Google Maps locates this hotel in a parallel street. I have informed the hotel staff of this but they seemed unable or unwilling to contact Google to correct the mislocation of their hotel. Otherwise this is a very fine, comfortable and friendly hotel. I stayed here for two non-consecutive nights (one night out of town hiking on the Great Wall).

Unique but smelly”

Great place to stay. Great location & clean. Yummy breakfast although the menu could do with a little more variety as after 4 days my kids got sick of eating the same english breakfast. Dinner menu was good but as it’s just a small hotel, they didn’t have the staff to cater to a private function and hotel guests. The room we stayed in was spacious for 6 people however the smell that came from the bathrooms were intoxicating and it’s a good thing we’re out most of the day but at nights it was terrible and we weren’t looking forward to going back to the room as it smelt like the sewage was right underneath us. Overall we wanted to feel the Chinese experience and we definitely got that staying here. Staff were great with the little English they spoke but thank goodness for google translate we managed just fine.

Great location and cool lobby but awful room”

The entrance down a sketchy alley was very unimpressive and difficult to find but the lobby was pure old-time Chinese and very cool. The room they took us to was unacceptable and the bathroom was moldy and dirty. We changed to a better room but found out later that its bathroom was very musty and mildewy. Terrible smell. Two of our three nights had parties going on above us. The breakfast was ok, nothing special. The staff had to rely on Google translate the whole time. We were happy with the location, not too far from the Tiananmen East subway station and the Forbidden city. For the money, we'll stay somewhere else next time.

Hotel is good but the only thing is that it is very hard to find the hotel as it is at the back lane and there is a guard at the main entrance which we do not allow the driver to send us in directly to the hotel and also when we check out too, so we need to walk in with our luggage. If the hotel can arrange with the guard so as to allow the driver to send us in and out is so much better especially with our big luggage and so more it is winter time , so cold -10C. If this can be solve i can say its perfect .

Hotel molto carino e folcloristico.
