              “Comfortable, safe, clean, good location”

I booked this while looking for a more authentic and traditional Japanese experience to contrast other chain hotels we would be staying in on our (my teenage son and I) visit to Japan. This was a great choice! As mentioned in many other reviews, the owners are friendly, welcoming and tho they don’t speak much English, we had no issues communicating. Our room on the top floor was a good size, clean and we were greeted with a hot pot of water and tea set waiting for us when we arrived. A lovely touch! Also each room does have an air conditioning unit which is a must if you are travelling in August. The sleeping mats are very comfortable - we stayed in another ryokan and these are just as soft. Some other reviews complaining about them may just not be open to this part of the lifestyle here. (My teenage son didn’t have any complaints and he can be finicky at times.) There is some street noise but that quiets down by around 10pm - at least for us- and we didn’t notice anything throughout the night. Perhaps some very light sleepers might but we slept soundly all night. Yea, there are stairs, this is Japan, but nothing uncomfortable. If you want bellhop service this is not your spot because you carry your own luggage. No elevators. The onsen is clean and very comforting- we loved coming back to this after a long day on a bike tour! I am annoyed to see other reviews stating concerns about cleanliness of the bath facilities or ‘stagnant water’ because this place is clean through and through. In the onsen there is constant flowing water in the hot bath (fresh hot water flowing in and a drain on the other end of the bath to pull the water out creating a nice flow to keep the water calm but moving at all times. All sinks, toilets, and bath facilities were very clean. Please note that the sink areas are shared, but over two days I only saw one other couple the whole time despite the ryokan being busy and fully booked. Overall we really enjoyed our stay and appreciate the traditional, authentic ryokan experience. I fully recommend guests to stay here to branch out of the usual hotel chain world. Even for a couple of days during your visit to Japan.

              “Felt at Home”

I stayed for three nights in Inn Yoshinoya. The elderly couple who owns the place speak very little English, but they were very welcoming and explained the amenities and facilities available. The room itself was warm and inviting. The futon was comfortable, and the heater was serviceable. Aside from the usual towel and toothbrush, they also provide a yukata, obi, socks, and outer jacket. Wearing this inside the minshuku really added to the atmosphere. I recommend the breakfast as well. The fish was very good. The service was very good, and it was an excellent display of Japanese hospitality. They do knock on your room at 8AM to deliver coffee or tea. This is fine by me as I start my days early anyway. The shared (private) onsen was always clean when I used it. Shampoo, conditioner, and body wash are available for guests to use.

              “Private Onsen”

Went in looking for one of the cheaper accommodations that had it's own private room and was pleasantly surprised to find though shared bathrooms, which was known, you can have the onsen to yourself. They have 2 of these and it is greatly needed after a cold day in Takayama. Location is about 17 minute walk from the train station and all flat and through the main areas of the town as well. Staff provide you with a night gown and toothbrush as well. Razors are available. They were kind enough to make me a coffee in the morning as well and post cleaning my room they left some biscuits too. I had the Japanese style room which was very nice to stay in. Room has a heat pump too, which was needed again after venturing out in the cold for dinner. Overall I would definitely recommend this place, staff are very sweet and lovely too. I would come back here if I'm staying in Takayama. A must needed trip is to Hida Folk Village, which is much less crowded than Shirakawa

              “Well Recommend!!! 👍👍👍”

It’s the best accommodation I had in my recent travel to Japan. Older couple who owned the place was very accommodating and helpful. I arrived early at Takayama and they allowed me to checkin earlier. Room was clean and well ventilated. There’s a welcome tea and snacks prepared, with clean towel and bathrobe. The best thing I like about the place is the onsen which is very much needed specially if you’re traveling during winter. Breakfast is very nice as well, it’s authentic Japanese meal which I very much appreciated. You’d know they exerted the effort to make their guest’s stay feel comfortable and enjoyable :) I would have stayed longer if I don’t have schedule to follow. As we all know Japanese service is one of best out there. Location wise, it’s pretty much near the center of Takayama and walking distance to all those sites you’d like to see. I would definitely recommend this to friends and family. Will be staying here again when I visit :)

“Great location, super host, delicious breakfast”

We stayed there for two nights. The location is within walking distance from the train station and access to all the attractions in the town. The host is very kind, an old Japanese couple running their old Ryokan business. Every evening they prepared the room and a pot of hot tea and snack for us in our room. Full set Japanese home book breakfast ready for us in the morning which fills our tummy for a long day. A small family hot bath is a plus. We love it! Like a small onsen in the house. The Ryokan is a bit aged, so it is like you are stepping back 30 years ago. Even though the place is quite aged but everything function as it should and is clean! We will definitely go there again if we going to visit Takayama in the future.
