Perfect location near the Gwangju U-Square bus terminal - Great for day trips to Boseong Tea Fields”
The owner of the Oxbloodk Hostel is exceptionally helpful, polite and will assist you in every way possible should you need help or recommendations for sightseeing. He has a great level of English! The hostel itself is located around a 5-10 minute walk from the bus terminal so there is no need to pay for taxis. It makes a great base to explore Gwangju and other sights further afield including Boseong Green Tea Fields & Suncheon Wetlands. There is a kitchen where you can make coffee/tea, juice, toast, eggs, ramen and hashbrowns (or other things if you buy them from the convenience store nearby) which is all included in the price. Even the laundry is included which is an excellent bonus. If you need a place to stay in Gwangju please consider Oxbloodk! I stayed here for 2 nights and would happily stay again if I’m in the area. The OxbloodK is a great and convenient place”
I only booked the OxbloodK so I could use it as a "day-room", ie: to drop off my bags so I could attend the Gwangju World Kimchi Festival 2015 for the day, then come back have a quick relax and a shower, then head off on a late bus to Jeonju. For this purpose, it worked perfectly. Probably would have been great to stay overnight too I am sure. The OxbloodK has allot going for it. Great location - it happens to be less than a 5 minute walk from a metro station which is very convenient when there is only one metro line that goes anywhere close to that area, allot of the city is not covered by the metro. Also, the kitchen facilities are quite nice (if compact) and he has lots on offer like coffee, tea, noodles, bread and sometimes fruit etc. The room itself is fine, the bed seemed comfy for a quick rest and the shower/bathroom area was excellent and clean. Very nice, hot shower which is super important to me personally. But the real thing that makes this property great is the manager. He is a super friendly, helpful and patient guy. I had very limited time in town to get to the Kimchi Festival and he helped me work it all out quickly, such as which buses to take and where to transfer etc. He was not burdened by my requirements and happy to answer all of my silly tourist questions. The directions he retrieved worked out perfectly and every piece of advice he gave was bang-on. Here is a guy who knows how to do hospitality right! The only small suggestion I would have for the Oxblood is that some of the common areas have seen better days and could use a little freshening up. The carpets in the hallways in particular were looking a little scrubby and the halls could use a fresh coat of paint. I've seen allot worse for sure but these things need to be updated from time to time. Thanks Oxblood for helping to make my brief visit to Gwangju so very enjoyable!

Good manager, location”
The manager was very helpful and enthusiastic throughout the trip. He helped me to take the luggage to the fifth floor, advised me on the transportation and where to go, took us to the restaurant and helped us to order the food. He always ask actively about what I need, like if I need laundry services, new towels, luggage keeping etc. Location was good, just 5-10 minutes walk from Inter-city bus terminal. There is free laundry service. facilities inside the room are good and clean. If I go to Gwangju again, I will stay in oxbloodk hostel again for sure!

Excellent stay at Gwangju”
The hostel is located at a prime location, a short 10 minutes walk from the bus station and 2 minutes walk to the internal subway station. It was an extremely pleasant stay (highly recommended for female travelers for its safety and facilities), and the manager provided an informative tour around the hostel explaining what he has to offer upon checkin. He could communicate in English and the personal touch was well appreciated as he helped plenty with directions to nearby attractions as well. The kitchen is also well stocked with drinks, bread, eggs and noodles; and open throughout the day. As a second time traveler to Gwangju, I must say that the hostel well exceeded my expectations in comparison to my first stay at another hostel. You wouldn't regret your booking at Oxbloodk!

Strategically located hostel”
This was my first ever trip to Gwangju. I had no idea how the hostel/ guesthouse compared with Seoul, it turns out to b better, cleaner and cheaper. This hostel is located 5 mins from the exit of Nongseong Metro Stn, midway between Gwangju Songjeong Stn ❨KTX❩ and Cultural Complex ❨ACC❩. There is an Intercity Bus Terminal called U Square, and a HYUNDAI Dept Store, which is 5-10 mins away from the hostel. The manager, Mr Wi was kind to show me around the building. Pleasantly suprised to learn the washing machine was free to use and there is a pretty clean kitchen to use ❨compared to the other hostels that I stayed❩. The room itself is very Korean in nature where you are expected to sit on the floor to watch TV. Just one thing that I wanna point out is the check-out time is very early indeed: you need to check-out by 0800. So dont book if you are not prepared to wake up early enough to leave the place. There is a MINISTOP convenience store around the corner and a LOTTERIA fastfood chain and "A TWOSOME PLACE" cafe ❨no pun intended❩ opposite the road. So basic needs covered. I wouldnt mind staying here if I ever come to Gwangju again.

Excellent personal hospitality helpful host”
Great host can speak English n guide you to point of interests, find bus route for you as well. The owner is a young guy who run his guest house by himself from a-z yet manage to cook rice himself for his guest in the morning, making sure his guests have good breakfast of toast eggs cereal milk fruit sausage juice coffee tea etc. All Rooms with ensuit private toilet shower attached, tv, mini fridge, hair dryer, comb, lady hair straightrner, toothpaste , extra free packet of toileteries, cloth hangers with a rack. Clean room good price surely I will stay at this hostel again in the future. Shopping mall shinsegai, e-mart supermarket are just 5 to 8 min walk, traditional market is 2 stops by subway, very convenient bus connections to most places thus excellent location. When you get lost or need help as translator tel the host and he will act as your translator is great help. He is a fantastic yet friendly operator of this hostel. Pls note that T money card cannot be used in Gwangju city bus or subway.

We enjoyed our stay at Oxbloodk. Thank you, Jaehyeon for your hospitality and all recommendations during our stay. The room is very clean and comfortable. We can cook our own food in the kitchen. There is also free laundry. Location is 10 mins walks from the u-square culture center. There is bus stop on front of the street. You can also walk about 10 mins to the closest subway station. I would definitely stay here again when I go back to Gwangju.

They are close at Gwangju bus terminal. And The staff is very kind. They don't served only clean room, but the stuffs that we need(ex. hair dryer, hair roller, towel, ect. even maskpack!!) I regret why I decided to stay in Gwangju only 1 night. If you want to come to Gwangju, Stay this hostel!:) 리뷰보고 갔는데 역시 여기로 가길 잘했네요! 가성비에 비해 너무 잘 있다갑니다. 직원분도 정말 친절하셔서 편의시설 하나하나 자세히 설명해주시고 한국 연락처로 수정안하고 있었던것도 몰라서 그냥 가면 되겠지 했는데 하루전 미리 메일로 연락주셔서 체크인시간에 맞춰서 계셔주었어요. 방은 말도 할것없이 깨끗하고 놀랐던게 샤워용품을 너무 디테일하게 제공해주셔서.. 집에서도 안하던 마스크팩을 여기서 하고 있었네요ㅋㅋ 다음에 광주오면 다시 여기서 머물거에요!

best manager ever!”
As other reviews noted, carpetting in the building is really old but that does not affect the stay at all. Upon entering, was warmly greeted by manager Jaehyeon. Gave a nice little introduction about the place and the amenities pack was just as in the photos, not to mention the hair dryer and brushes in the room were re-sealed in plastic (really clean!). I was using a private room and it really surprised me that there was a private toilet as well. There was also a clothes rack in the room for you to dry your clothes. Even a personal tv in the private room. Water runs well, bed was a bit hard and pillow too - took some time getting used to. Location was definitely good, very near to the bus terminal and there was an emart nearby as well. What made the stay most comfortable was manager's warm hospitality :) Every time I left the hostel for the day, manager would always greet you and ask about your plans for the day/give some recommendations. And every time I came back, he would also asked about my day. It really felt very welcoming :) On the day I checked out, he even helped me with my luggage all the way to Usquare Terminal because I was the last checkout for the day. Thank you so much!! He is managing the hostel all by himself, I really dont know how he does it!

Strategic Location, Helpful Manager, Value for Money”
Location is the best, just a 10mins walk from the Bus Terminal or NongSeong Subway Station, is very convenient to travel around GwangJu. The friendly manager is very helpful providing the information needed. Any question or help, he will try his best to assist you. He speaks English, so no worries on communication. I stay in single room attached bathroom, the room is spacious to fit 2 people, and a set of handful skin care given as doorgift. But do take note that there is no elevator in the building, don't worry, the manager will lend you a hand. The kitchen is always fill with free food and beverage. I would say that this hostel is the best since it located at the middle point of everywhere. Definitely will revisit and recommend to others !!!

the best house keeper”
It was a very nice stay in here, manager K was kind and gentle. He brought us to a popular local food restaurant in Gwangju, and the food was yummy. He was doing his very best to make us comfortable. Since we don't speak in Korean, he also helped us to buy bus tickets, and guided us to some nearby locations, e.g. subway station, bus terminal, E-mart etc. The hostel is extremely close to subway station. When we went back to take our luggages, we needed to catch the train in hurry, it only took us less than 5 mins for a round trip from subway station to the hostel and get back to the subway station again !!! (we were in run, of coz)

외부나 부엌 쪽이 좀 낡아보일 순 있어도 화장실, 침구류 및 방 상태는 정말 깔끔하고 좋았습니다! 조식이나, 몇가지 재료도 무료 제공이었구 무엇보다 사장님이 너무너무 친절하셨습니다 :D 위치도 광주 버스터미널 유스퀘어랑 가까워서 근교 당일치기 하기에도 너무너무 편했구요! 도보로 한 10분? 15분 걸으면 금방 가기 때문에 호록호록 다녀오기 편했습니다! 다음에 광주를 또 간다고 하면 또 여기 머물 것 같아요! It was very satisfying accommodation to stay for travellers. Location is utterly excellent. So easy to reach the local and intercity bus terminal, it is 10~15m to walk, also with the subway too. If you also plan to visit any other city nearby Gwangju, here would be an excellent choice. Facilities are great too. Even though the building is pretty old, and the kitchen seems old too, the essential area to rest like a room or bathroom are so clean and new. Also, the staff is so kind, he's willing to help anything for you. Thanks to him, I really have enjoyed staying here for 3 nights. I will definitely stay again here whenever I come back there.

The stay was awesome despite it being only a night. I kinda of regretted for only staying a night as it was just a stopover place for me to go to boseong tea plantation the next day. The room was spacious with personal shower facility and the owner has its own personalized shower/grooming package for its guests. He will also introduce you to good food within the vicinity and even bring you there if time allows. You can consider staying more than a night as there are places of interest in gwangju. One advice would be that please google map the location of the guesthouse before heading there. I didn't google search the guesthouse location and relied solely on the map provided by the host to realize that the map was wrongly drawn. You wouldn't want to be stranded like me with your stones luggages. Oh ya, the red carpeted in the corridor may seem eerie to some, but I'm totally fine with it. Overall, I love the guesthouse and I love the host! It is considered my most awesome stay in Korea! Thumbs up to the CEO/ host!

Exceptional”
The room we had was a double room, it was cosy. Although it is not the best we had stayed, this place offered more than what we had expected. The facilities and hospitality of the manager, Jaehyeon deserves a thumbs-up . Jaehyeon is the owner and he does everything (housekeeper, check in and out, stocking up the free food in the common kitchen, etc) by himself. Prior to our arrival, he even emailed us to ask for our arrival time so that he will be around to wait for us to check in. Even for our check out, he also asked for our check out time so that he could be around. He asked for our next destination and even offered maps for our convenience. He is very alert and would greet us when we leave and return back to the hostel. His kindness and enthusiasm in managing this hostel and treating his guest really deserves full marks. A welcome pack(mask, toothbrush, shampoo pack, body lotion pack, etc) will be given depending on your gender.

The owner does far beyond what a hostel is expected. He provides food in the kitchen 24/7, never seen any other hostel. The bathroom is clean. The bed is clean. We spent evenings at the roof top drinking beer. The owner speaks limited Enlish, but his effort is unlimited. The hostel is located one block away from the main traffic that makes it more quiet to sleep. Once the owner gives a code to the front door, you can come and go anytime you want. A large super mkt is 10min away. If you want go out to eat, there are restaurants near by. Since we like to cook our own food, we wished the electric cooking stove is a little more powerful and a couple more pots and pans. Overall this hostel is one of the best. Yes, we recommend this hostel to our friends .
