Charming guest house in incredible surroundings”
We really enjoyed our stay at the Orchid Hibiscus Guest House. Paolo, the owner, was very knowledgeable about the area and gave us some good ideas about where and how to visit Old Sukhothai. The room was bungalow style and very quaintly furnished with local and handmade items. The grounds were full of surprises at every turn, including talking birds, beautiful flowers, trees and water features, and quirky decorations everywhere. Breakfast was very nicely served and included local delicacies like coconut pudding tied in banana leaves and honey from the forest nearby - delicious!

Beautiful Flowers and gracious hosts”
The Orchid Hibiscus Guest House is a wonderful place to stay, located in the historical town of Sukhothai. Loved the "honeymoon" feel of the canopy bed decorated with the "swan" folded towels. Thai massage in the open air sala was an added bonus. We enjoyed "talking" with the exotic birds and strolling the gardens.

Perfect spot, pool and breakfast”
I sent 4 nights here for a relaxing cultural break. It's located in a great quiet spot within quick cycling distance to all the ruins (there are even some not on the map nearby down a side road if you fancy a chilled adventure.) The staff are all friendly and helpful. Breakfast was great and filling. I hired a bike most days, cycling in the mornings and then enjoying the pool late afternoon to cool down. My room was great, though a little dark during the day time hrs but there is a porch to chill-out on or many other areas around the lovely gardens. I would recommend this place to anyone heading this way. I chose it due to it's pool, garden and traditional decor. Some people I know stayed over the road in a more modern hotel. To me it didn't come close to the charm and relaxed vibe of the Orchid Hibiscus Guest House. I'd happily stay here again.

Historical Park of Sukothai”
I loved staying at Orchid Hibiscus. We were a group of 6 - a family of four and a couple, and this turned out to be a superb place to stay for all of us. The gardens are beautiful, with many places to sit and the swimming pool was a delight to return to after visiting the historical park on bicycles. It's about 2 km to restaurants, but an easy enough walk or bike. Paolo, our host, was very helpful as well as a fount of information. All in all a great visit - I will definitely stay at Orchid Hisbiscus the next time I'm in Sukothai.

Little heaven of peace and beauty”
If you ever go to Sukkothai, make sure to stay at the old town - close to the ruines. The Orchid Hibiscus Guest House is an ideal choice. The warm welcome and valuable advice on the "must-dos" was much appreciated.

Lovely sanctuary with gracious host”
The Guest House is in some ways quite basic (no free wi-fi), small bungalows, but it is lovely and quiet, and the host, charming. We stayed near the Historical Park rather than in the New City, because that was our main reason for being in Sukhothai, and the New City is quite far from the park. Bicycles were for rent across the street from the Guest House, and once we had bikes, we were independent. The sites were easily reached by bike, as were all the restaurants, ATMs, 7-11's, etc., one could want. There was wi-fi in every establishment on the main drag outside the park, so its lack at the hotel was not a problem at all. If one wanted to go to the New City, there were a number of options, from very cheap to less cheap. The breakfast was special. The usual toast and eggs were available, but the best part was the forest honey with bananas and fresh coconut pudding, served on a banana leaf. Superb. We were picked up at the Guest House by an airport shuttle, arranged for us by Paolo. This was one of my favorite hotels in a 5 week trip.

Comfortable, quiet hotel with nice pool, near park”
Orchid Hibiscus was quiet, in a beautiful garden with a nice pool. The hotel is a short bike ride to the Historical Park, down a quiet street. Very relaxing setting. The breakfast was great. Highly recommend this place. Note that if you need internet while there, you have to buy wifi by the hour.

Lovely guest house, great location, one big caveat”
paolo has created a beautiful garden setting as closer to the historical park as it can be. the 16 or 18 bungalows are each unique, with a great pool for cooling off in the sukhothai heat. we happened to arrive on a saturday and paolo told us saturday nights are the only time the ruins are lit up, and this was breathtaking. there is a good restaurant a short walk from the guest house. good breakfast, very hard bed. paolo himself was odd to deal with -- expansive and gracious at moments but sometimes moody, capricious, and short-tempered. he seemed annoyed we were only staying one night. we stayed in a deluxe bungalow which was ok -- attractive with good air conditioning, decent hot water, no luggage rack, very hard twin beds. but at 6:15 we were awakened by music that i believe came from a buddhist center next door. i did not mind the music itself but it was very loud and accompanied by sermons of some sort. i do not know if this is a daily occurrence but it was most unwelcome. i do not know what the other options are, but i would probably consider others

Relaxing atmosphere; close to historical park”
The bungalow was comfortable, with a spacious bathroom, lots of screened windows, a pleasant front porch, and a refrigerator for beverages. The guesthouse owner, Paolo, is very knowledgeable about the area and shared great strategies for visiting the historical park and surrounding ruins without encountering crowds. Because it was within walking distance of the historical park and nearby restaurants, it was a perfect base from which to explore Old Sukhothai. Easy access to bicycle and motorbike rentals. Wi-fi was fast and available everywhere on the property, from the breakfast area to the pool to the bungalows. Laundry was available on-site, as well. The mattress was a bit more firm than what we prefer, but that was a small matter in an otherwise comfortable bungalow. A perfect spot for relaxing, with beautiful gardens, an aviary of colorful birds, and a quiet environment.

Pretty setting - great service - great position”
friendly welcome from paolo the owner - room clean and basic, very firm mattress, western toilet and hot shower & air con. entrance veranda facing pretty gardens. many caged birds including mynah birds - quite a dawn chorus! breakfast great value & different! pool beautiful very quite area but perfect for entrance to old sukhothai. paolo happy to advise where to visit and has map. we had a car and drove everywhere. for those who want to use a bike available to hire opposite the guest house, you will cycle many kilometres just getiing to and from temple ruins. it is very hot and this will sap your energy - take plenty of water. don't miss wat sri chum - excellent coffee shop on the way in and gift stalls - low prices. only stayed one night drove from chiang mai 4 hours - left chiang mai 7.30am and arrived in old city sukhothai at 11.35am did several temples on way to checking in at about 2pm then returned to central zone at 5pm for sunset. didn't find any good restaurants in old sukhothai.

A lovely guest house in a beautiful setting”
this is not going to suit everyone. the beds are thai style, mattress very firm but comfortable and larger than the standard queen size. the guest house supplies breakfast only and also you can make tea or coffee throughout the day. you can buy cold drinks. you have to walk, bike or go by tuk tuk for lunch and dinner. if you can cope with this then it is a peaceful lovely getaway. walking into town is possible and we did this easily.there is internet available at a small cost. take a universal plug for charging phones and cameras as thai outlets are only 2 round pins. as well as the ruins of old sukhothai do not miss the museum as it houses many relics of great antiquity - a must see.

Greeat little guest house close to Sukhothai”
i stayed here after spending a night at the grand riverside hotel in phitsanulok, taking a bus to sukhothai. little did i know that the songtaew fare would be to get to old sukhothai, but that is a byline. i was warmly greeted by the owners, who promptly showed me to my cozy room overlooking the pool. i almost had the entire place to myself, which allowed paolo to share some of his secrets for a successful trip to sukhothai and who encouraged me to sit back and relax. the pool was a wonderful way to relax in the heat of the day before i borrowed one of the establishment's scooters and tore off around sukhothai. what an amazing, laid back place just outside the city walls! the breakfast was truly incredible, as marketed. i would definitely stay here again if i returned to sukhothai!

Good price, good service”
this is a bit of a weird hotel. we drove from chiang mai, they had no parking lot, so we just parked on the street in front of the hotel. the family room was huge, but our friend stayed in a bungalow and it was tiny.the service was good. the guy that owns it is an interesting cat, his wife made our 2 year old son banana leaf fish every morning... pretty cool. very very basic rooms. no shampoo, tiny sliver of soap, we actually went to the market and bought some shampoo.... for the price i expected more. there was no t.v. in the room...and most of the light bulbs were burnt out. but sukhothai seemed to have expensive rooms and this one was cheap compared to the others we had seen. generally good, just come prepared. oh and know that the beds are hard...i like a hard bed but our friend was not happy.

Lovely guesthouse with excellent service”
The guest house was lovely and clean. The staff were friendly and very helpful. The pool area was very relaxing. The guesthouse is centrally placed to visit the national park and shops/restaurants. I can't understand the bad reviews about Paulo. We found him very friendly. The breakfast is advertised as "excellent" and I would agree with this. Honey on the comb, toast, eggs, coconut palm and unlimited tea/coffee and juice and if you want more the staff are only too pleased to provide it. The only comment i would have is that the bed was very hard.

Wish we could have stored our bags”
We were pretty happy with our stay! It would have been nice to have bike rentals from the guest house and a place to store our bags for the day we checked out. (But you can find these amenities in town) The breakfast was unique an very good! The owner is very kind and has a beautiful garden guest house. The room and bathroom were ok but we had hot water and a bed to sleep in :) we were happy with the price and service we received. It's a bit of a walk to the national park and would suggest renting bikes for the time you are there. The parks are beautiful easy to bike around and highly recommended!!! Highlight of out trip! This is the best of our budget stays!

hospitable owner”
A good location to explore the Sukhothai historical park less than 1km away. The owner Paulo is very hospitable and gives you a map and suggestions for seeing Sukhothai, as well as transport options. Breakfast is served 7-9am. Note there are no TVs in the standard rooms.
