Enormous and comfortable room”

We enjoyed our stay at the Koh Tao Montra Resort & Spa. The room is beautifully and elegantly decorated, although some people may find the decoration a bit outdated. Our room has both pool view and sea view, and a balcony. About the breakfast, choice of food is limited, but the view at the restaurant (by the beach) is wonderful. The hotel is conveniently located, within 7 minutes' walking distance from the pier. There are a number of restaurants, diving centres, convenience stores, etc. nearby. I would strongly recommend this resort if the price can be lowered.

I always stay at the Montra.”

I have stayed at the Montra resort and spa, 3 times when i went to Koh Tao. It's my only hotel i will stay at. Staff is so kind and they always remeber me. The food is not the best but it's not so bad. I love the last time i stayed they upgraded me to the front and it was a bigger room with a shower that looked like u where in the jungle. I also must say that this is why and where i met my guy! So now when we go back to Koh Tao to go scuba dive this is where we stay. It always brings back great memerories. I must say for the price and location and how clean it is, i give it a 10! I'm plannig to come back again to Thailand in a few days and i just got back but i will be at the Montra.

Great and wonderful place”

Arrived to Koh Tao on the moring boat, LOMPRAYAH.We had not informed Montra resort at what time we would arrive, but still their taxi driver was standing at the pier waiting for us with our names on a small board. The check-in was smooth and without any hassle. The room they gave us was beautiful. A lot of space with a very big bed in the middle. The room was clean and cleaned every day for the entire stay. The cleaning staff was a bit quite at first, but we did manage to get a smile out them after the first day. The area of the resort was big with a big swimming-pool in the middle with an amazing pool bar with happy hour in the evening. The beach front restaurant had everything you needed whether it was Thai food or western. All was good, but we mainly ate Thai. The included breakfast buffet was nice and plentiful. Overall the resort was very well managed and all the staff was helpful, friendly and service minded. Great stay on Koh Tao.

Lovely hotel with a great pool”

The Montra resort was a perfect place for us to stay a couple of nights out of our usual budget price range but without breaking the bank. The location in Mae Haad is excellent, close walking distance to all the eateries, shops etc although this area is a lot quieter than Sairee Beach which is only a 5 minute drive away. The beach out the front of the hotel is ok but not particularly great but the huge swimming pool area more than makes up for this. It has a multi depth area connected to a large single depth pool by the pool bar and also a good sized jacuzzi area. Our room was a very good size, clean, a massive bed, and a huge bathroom too, although this looked like it needed a lick of paint. The room had a fridge, kettle, free water daily, tv and a good size balcony overlooking the pool. The air on was much welcomed after just staying in fan rooms previously. Montra have their own car so will pick you up from the ferry pier or like they did for us, from Sairee Beach. The hotel breakfast was a good buffet with plenty of choices. If you are looking for somewhere a little more upmarket without wanting to break the bank then it is ideal.

Relaxing stay”

We had a really nice stay at Koh Tao Montra Resort & Spa. They picked us up at the pier when we arrived with the ferry. The pool area with the pool bar is great fun. The hotel is close to Mae Haad village and Sairee Beach. Good restaurant, big room. Nothing to complain about!

Honeymoon trip”

We got a free room upgrade for our honeymoon which was awesome. The location is a quick 3 minute walk to the pier and all the restaurants in Mae haad. We stayed 3 nights in one room and decided to extend our stay and had to switch to a new room. The first room had working AC but the room wasn't frozen. The second had AC that was in full force. It is Thailand an every now and then you get that sewer funk. However as Thailand goes this was very mild. For the price this is a great place. The pool is big and has a swim up bar. A few tiles are missing in the floor of the pool but again this isn't the Ritz. Staff was very friendly and let's you store your bags if the room isn't ready. The free breakfast is not bad. Egg station bacon bread fruit and random Thai food. For free Thailand breakfast this is pretty great for the price. The beach isn't the best and most people adventure out on bikes or quads to other places. So don't expect to relax on the beach right out the hotel even though they have a small swim section and chairs. Ao Leuk was our favorite beach which was a 30 min walk but most people taco or motor bike over. The wi fi strength isn't strong but works at the pool and loby well. They did have a truck waitin to pick us up at the pier when the boat arrived as well. If we come back to koh tao we would book again. For the price it is hard to beat on this part of the island (green season around 65 a night)

Heavenly place and heavely room”

Originally we had only booked 2 nights to stay at the Koh Tao Montra Resort but after arriving we immediately extended our stay another 2 nights!! The rooms were incredible! They were so spacious both the bathroom and the bed. The bed was extremely big and comfy. We had a beautiful room overlooking the most amazing swimming pool. We thoroughly enjoyed the buffet breakfast and staying right on the beach. The staff were great as they picked us up from the pier and dropped us off. Definitely reccommend this hotel to anyone.

Great hotel on beach, huge pool & rooms, 1st class”

the montra was a last minute "save" from an issue at a small boutique hotel where the aircon failed two nights in a row. i really wish i booked the montra first. the montra is a large, full-service hotel and their aircon works. they have two huge pools and a oversized jacuzzi with a swim-up bar. the hotel is also located right on the mad haad beach. the breakfast and restaurant was really good. the food tasted excellent, it was hot, fresh, and everything was clean. the service was excellent and the staff (actual thais, not burmese) are friendly. dinner was also reasonably priced. they bake their own bread, so there are great smells all day long. the town is less than a minute away with lots of shops and other restaurants too. the room was large, the bed was much bigger than a normal king-size bed, and the bathroom had separate oversized tub and walk-in shower, commode in separate room as well. i loved this place, it was simply awesome. my only complaint is the number of stairs. in some places you go up to go down and there seems no reason for the additional steps at all. [i noticed some reviews condemning the restaurant. i found the restaurant clean. this is thailand and you are in the tropics. the restaurant is open walls, so it is open to the world. there are insects, but the staff seemed to take great care to keep things clean, to cover food and have protective screens in place. by thai standards, the restaurant was well above par.]

Loved it”

Had a beautiful stay with my wife. Everything was thought of. Booked one night, but extended for another 5 nigts. Couldn't leave. Fast check-in. Stunning rooms and swimming pool. Very nice breakfast buffet and, lunch and dinner was nice with many choices and good service. Great support from staff and management when needed to organize small trips and snorkeling trips around on Koh Tao. Had a diving reception as well, but didn't try. Looked very professional though. Cooking class is a must try. This was our first time on Koh Tao so it was important for us to have the support of the staff to know the do's and dont's on Koh Tao, and that they did very well. Will definitely come back here again. We did read other reviews before choosing this place and they are very mixed, and I must say that we were very surprised that this resort gets bad reviews after staying here.

Pleasant, comfortable and relaxing”

We would definitely stay at the Koh Tao Montra Resort and Spa again if the opportunity arose. When we booked we were looking for a good hotel away from the "party areas" but close to facilities - very pleased with the Montra in this regard. We found all staff to be very capable and helpful and the managers were always present.

Highly Recommend Montra Resort!”

We love the Montra Resort and would highly recommend it. The staff were so pleasant and helpful. the rooms were large, comfortable and very clean. The pool is a good size and is in two parts so that when scuba lessons are going on, you can still swim in the front part of the pool. It's close to lots of good restaurants and is walking distance to the pier and to some beautiful swimming areas. We went on a snorkel trip around the island that was amazing!! The only bad thing that happened was when my husband was surrounded by 5 dogs on a morning walk past the hotel next door and one of them bit him. The staff at the Montra Resort were fantastic - they cleaned up the wound and then brought us by truck to the clinic, along with Sarah - one of their great staff members - who was the intepreter for us. The hotel manager also went to the Crystal Resort to report the biting but was told that they won't do anything about it. But, other than that, it was a wonderful time and we'll defintely be back and recommend it to everyone!

Great hotel, fantastic pool, not so great beach”

apologies if this is a duplicate... our time in koh tao was half in cheap, half in nicer places like montra. montra was at the very end of our stay and so peaceful. the rooms were huge and very nice - cool marble/tiled floors, a beautiful, massive bathroom with proper tiled/glass shower, separate toilet, granite bath, a huge king sized bed, a decent sized balcony, big tv and cheaper mini bar prices than we had at our cheapo places. it also had the niceties - shampoos, dressing gowns, slippers, etc. the pool was probably the best asset - it's really big, and really nice... i spent hours floating around. it's split into 2 so couples / singles don't really have to deal with the families. the pool bar isn't really one - they just take your order to the restaurant! my first order (pina colada + a beer) took 20+ minutes, and the second (just beer) took at least 5. the restaurant is a bit sterile and the service very slow - we waited for 15 mins or so before giving up and going to a cheap, very tasty thai open air place a few doors down. that said, the hotel wasn't busy at all (we saw only 3 or 4 other couples + 1 family during our day at the pool) and service was much better at the busier buffet breakfast (our waitress was lovely).

Right near the beach”

I love this hotel, when i come to Koh Tao I only stay here, they always give me upgrades! The staff are so sweet and always welcome me back. I feel at home, the breakfeast is not the best but you can always order somthing else. The rooms have great big soft beds and pillows. I have to say the bathroom in this room that we had the upgrade was like a garden veiw / beach! Wow when i showered i felt like i was outside so tropical. I will always come back to my happy home away from home The Montra. Oh and the pool is a 10.

centrally located resort with amazing villas”

Our stay was really amazing. We stayed in the beach front villa, it did have an ocean view but was not right on the same (perhaps 50m away). The staff worked hard to maintain the gardens and we're really friendly. One thing though they offered us to do snorkel tours and taxi boat to koh nang yuan (gorgeous island close by) which were heavily overpriced so do not book tours there, go to the town. This hotel is a 10-15 min walk to sairee town and Beach which has many cute restaurants and a nic beach. It's also 5 mins to Mae nam town. The villas are absolutely stunning, huge rooms, 2 plasma tvs, large bathrooms. We stayed here as alot of the other villa accommodation On koh Tao was on hills or far away from a town. This place was very accessible and I would highly recommend it

amazing value for money! loved it!”

we booked one night at montra, and when we got there we were literally blown away and booked to stay there the entire time. the price for the room on agoda was amazing, and we only booked the standard room - but it was almost like a mini palace! the decore, the bed, the bathroom, was just gorgeous. we couldnt believe our luck. i loved it there! its close to the pier, which is so handy, and just a short stroll to all the shops and restuarants near the pier. we hired a bike and drove up north to sairee beach (the main beach) - its about a 3 min bike ride. whilst i liked sairee and it's where the action is at, i was glad i wasn't staying there. it was much more peaceful at montra, no one on the little beach so i had it all to myself! it was great going into sairee for dinner though - especially eating at the big blue. the food was amazing, and the fire twirler was the best in thailand! the pool at montra is stunning too, and was great to laze next too. the girls at reception were so friendly and helpful and will organise anything you need - bikes or boats. the food here at breakfast was great too. i would stay back at montra in a heartbeat. amazing!

Montra ”

After staying at two other "resorts" we spent our last night here. Pool/sea view room with a balcony, huge bed, huge bathroom with separate rain shower, bathtub, and toilet. Pool was large and kept clean and was deep. Another part was shallow and perfect for kids - also had a swim up bar. The staff was very friendly and helpful. They booked our ferry tickets and gave us a free ride to the pier. When I didn't have my Agoda voucher, they let me use their computers to log on and print it out. Hotel is near Mae Haad Pier and a short walk to Sairee Beach.

For a bit of luxury at the end of a vacation”

I found Montra fantastic. I was in a large room overlooking the pool - so no sunset view unfortunately. The room was clean and very spacious, with sun lounge and a beautiful balcony. The staff were lovely, although the reception did open late as I arrived at 7am I had to go for a walk for an hour or so until they were open to check in. The pools were great with pleasant poolside service. I really like the location as it was 2min walk away from Man Haed and therefore close to the piers for boats & scuba diving. However not that suitable for party goers who want to go all night in the bars down the otherside of the hill at Sairee Beach where the main tourists/bars/restaurants are. Breakfast was good. A good variety of fry-ups, asian foods, breads, fruits & cereals. With coffee & milk always available (something other hotels lacked in my experience). The super kingsize bed was firm and very comfortable with good pillows. The bedsheet/doonas were very comfortable. Very effective air-con. Not a cockroach or bug in sight! Definately recommend & will consider staying at Montra again.

great location”

This was one of the best hotels I've been to with amazing customer service. The service was exceptional. The man that showed around was Chin and he has great customer service skills. He told us everything we needed to know from where to eat and what companies to use for snorkelling and what kind of tours we must see while in Koh Tao. One of the best, hope he gets a raise because I suggested it on my comments survey at the hotel. The hotel itself is well equipped with all your holiday needs and it is very close to the pier. The rooms were big and amazing designed.

Great room, huge pool!”

after having a dreadful experience with koh tao pinnacle resort (advertised in the wrong location, the photo's online were fake, the place was still under contruction), we had to leave as soon as we arrived and find somewhere to stay immediately. luckily, koh tao montra resort was available. nice rooms, great pool area with a multi-depth double-pool, and a grass area to sit in the sun. it's close to the pier township, so you aren't far from food, shops and taxi's to take you to sairee beach, which is less than 5 minutes away by taxi.

Charming and tranquil place”

We had a very nice stay at Montra with a beautiful location. The only thing missing was a balcony in our superior room. The staff was very alert that there were a virus floating at Koh Tao when we where there. The virus caused stomach problems so the staff brought us rice soup and boiled water. The manager made sure that the guests all could get mineral powder to add to water. The overall impression was that the hotel holds a high standard when it comes to food, service, cleaning and hospitality. The place feels a bit secluded but the town is only a 2 minutes walk away. Absolutely recommendable.
