An excellent hotel, but too far from the city center”

The Kempinski Hotel Khan Palace is a nice, but not great, hotel. The service and the staff are excellent. But in a city like Ulaan Bataar, with its horrendous traffic jams, Kempinski is a liitle far from the city center.

    Your best option in Ulaanbaatar”

    Staff, room comfort, Dining options

A comfortable and enjoyable stay after a week camping in the desert. It is listed as a 5*, honestly, probably a strong 4*, however it is your best option in Ulaanbaatar. All staff, from Reception, to Room Service, to Butlers and Bell hops are polite and helpful. They gave our bags a clean as requested before sending them up to the room, and later, we took advantage of the complimentary shoe cleaning service for our tired walking boots. Beds are large and comfortable, bathroom clean with strong and hot showers and a good sized bath. Both the food at the restaurants and room service were of a high quality. Note that the Mongolian restaurant serves very large portions! The only issue was the bar/pub across the road that pumps loud music all through the day and night, clearly audible in the rooms. There is no business centre, but they printed documents for us without issue free of charge.

    Superb quality service”

Very large comfortable room, lovely breakfast, efficient service

I have been to Ulaanbaatar more than 10 times, and stayed one of the most well known hotel from the beginning to the previous time because its convinience. But it was a great decision to change it for this time to stay at this hotel. It was far beyond my expectation in UB standard. Absolutely fine, quality hotel with lovely and smiley staff with great efficiency. No wonder I will return for the next trip. Thank you.

    nice hotel with nice staff”

int. chain, great breakfast, very helpful staff

was initially disappointed when i saw the hotel, because it certainly doesn't look like a kempinski or 5 star anywhere else i have stayed. the location too seemed far from the center (a good 20 minutes walk in -32 degrees). however first impressions are not always correct. the room was good (no view though but thats just due to drab ub) and the facilities adequate. i had an emergency and had to leave early and the staff - from the gm to the front desk personnel ran around and changed flights for me, even to the extent of the front desk lady paying herself for the ticket change fee and even coming in on her day off to ensure that i got the ticket and passport. the gm was instrumental in arranging everything and very sympathetic too.

    Ulan Bator business hotel”

A hotel in quiet residential corner of Ulan Bator

This is a Kempinski hotel but does not really feel as one. The room is by means good, but front desk, restaurant, ambiance, service ... none of this really match with what Kempinski stands for in Europe. I do not deny this is a good hotel in a country that does not have too much to offer .... but in European terms I would say this is barely 3-4 stars ; while Kempinski is known for their 5 star luxury properties. In fact, it appears that the best hotel in town is now a Best Western ! Not ever in Europe will a Best Western come even close to a Kempinski, let alone be better ! Breakfast is fine here, but dinner did not really impress ; nor did selection of available beverages impress. So while the hotel is not bad, then please do not expect to experience a real Kempinski hotel Not even close. Also, this hotel is located in residential area. Right next to a main avenue that will take you to city center, but the traffic is so dense, that it is actually much faster to walk to city center (brisk walk will take 20 min.). Downtown there are one or two restaurants that do impress more than the hotel restaurant. Incidentally, the Best Western is also next to the main square ... so question is what hotel would be more convenient to stay in.

    2010.04.Ulaanbaatar Kempinski Hotel”

Breakfast + Restaurant A very attentive restaurant and beverages manager. Rooms have the right room (water) temperature and customer can open the windows if he wishes
I didn't like how tea is served (one sachet in a small cup of water, no pot) The room are quite small for two people. Location faraway from the center.

We really enjoy our short stay (3 nights) in Hotel Kempinski. We are traveling a lot in Asia and can compare. We really recommend this hotel. You will feel a strong and good management in all services. We mostly appreciate the breakfast (buffet). It is really one of the best in UB, delicious muesli, a lot of fresh fruit, good bread and delicious confitures, omelette chef but also enough offer for Asian taste. The restaurant offers a good range of national dishes with a very good service under perfect supervision. We were shifting to an another place because of traffic. We found a very nice appartment at Grandirs Hotel (opposite east entrance of State Department Store) which is closed to our office (also to be recommended for long stay)

Execellent Buffet Breakfast, good value for money and international standard

This is the best hotel I have stayed. The other hotels I stayed before were even expensive but not as good as Kempinski. In particulars, the buffet breakfast has great variety and good quality food. Sure it is the best choice in country.

    Comfort after camping”

Comfortable, fast internet, not a tent

After 10 days travelling around sleeping in tents the Kempinski was a pleasure. Very comfortable room with a lot of amenities. Great bathroom and shower. The spa was a little underwhelming, it was a small room in a basement and there was construction noise going on. There was only one masseur so two people were not able to get massages at the same time. The location was also a little inconvenient, a friend of ours stayed in the UB hotel and the location was so much better. The Kempinski was a nicer hotel from our conversations but I would go for more convenience if I were to stay again - the city is a lot harder to get around than we expected

A lone archer in Mongolia ”

The staff, the room & the Japanese Grill restaurant

The hotel is by far one of the best in the city. The staffs are most helpful and engaging. Service is promptly and efficient. The two in house Japanese restaurants serve fairly authentic Japanese cuisine. The rooms are clean with functional amenities and is fairly spacious. The only slight down sides are the occasional small power glitches in the room which plays havoc with the in house cable tv and the Internet is not as fast as I'd expected; but perhaps it is because mine was a corner room. Definitely a choice you can't go seriously wrong with. I highly recommend it.

Great room , not ending with pleasant experience ”

New hotel, comfortable clean room and meet the standard 5 stars hotel.Only the location is not in the center or near the attractions. One disappointment was we got the twin room instead of double room and we said ok when the lady staff asked to add more 10USD if upgrading to be a king size bedroom. But in the end we need to pay 12USD because tax surcharge.Of course not a big different but just do not like something unclear especially from a 5 stars hotel staff.

    Top notch service!”

This hotel has excellent staff. They all speak English very well. They even went above and beyond to make my birthday extra special! The room had a comfy bed and pillows, well-equipped bathroom, and room service was timely and food was great. Facilities were very clean and measures were taken to maintain a healthy environment. I highly recommend this hotel and will definitely return again.

Great staffs, good rooms, nice stay

I guess Kempinski is the only 5-star hotel in ULN, thanks to the chain hotels group for building this great hotel in ULN - just cannot imagine if there's no international chain hotels in this country.

Friendly staff, large bedfrooms with character”

Friendly service, Large bedrooms, old world charm

We stayed here during the Naadam festival and it was a fantastic base for our trip. The staff go out of their way to help out and with a smile to always welcome you. The bedroom was huge, and had everything to make it a very comfortable stay. It is a short taxi ride in to the main square area, but the old world charm of the hotel makes that distance worthwhile. Our friends stayed in the Blue Sky which was much more expensive, but didnt have the finish or polish for a top 5 star hotel. If visiting UB, I would definitely recommend this hotel.

Pleasant experience away from the busy main street”

Strong Room Wifi, Comprehensive bath facilities, Good food

Breakfast was amazing with a spread of Japanese cuisine, Continental Breakfast and Mongolian selects. Also included a fresh juice counter which was good! Location of Hotel is a little far off the main Peace Avenue area, but there is a supermarket right opposite the hotel for snacks/supplies you'd need. As the location is slightly far off, it's been compensated with a relatively big room.

    Business Trip to UlaanBaatar”

Good location, helpful staff, high speed internet

Overall, this is a very good hotel for business trip. The room is large and clean. Hotel provides internet access everywhere, from your room and restaurant. However, my room is connected to next room with a locked door, and it's a bit noisy and annoying for me since they skype with families or friends from 8am to 11pm ... Staff is very helpful and they can speak fluent English. You can borrow local mobile phone or iPad for free during your stay. Several disco and pub nearby. You can choose to enjoy the wild life or relax in hotel.

    Very Nice Hotel”

    food comfort staff

Great hotel with awesome food, very nice friendly staff. Of all the hotels in UB, it is br far the best. Only drawback is location; however, on a nice sunny day - no issue since just a 20 min walk to centre of town. In winter though, taxis would be needed - although they are inexpensive. Highly recommend.
