All the hotel staff are so kind that it's almost overwhelming. I would recommend it if you're going to Hakone. The breakfast and dinner served in the room are delicious and satisfying. One night is not enough, I think you should stay for two nights. The hot springs are also satisfying. The hotel is 150 meters away from the Sounzan cable car. The hotel staff offered to pick me up from Gora Station, so I came to the hotel comfortably. I would like to thank all the hotel staff and would definitely revisit if I have the chance. Thank you.
The staff were very friendly and helpful, and could speak English well. The Kaiseki and breakfast were quite good, with neat and clean presentation and simple flavors. Finally, the hot springs were a bit lukewarm, but still enjoyable as there weren't too many people. It was great to be able to try various baths at different times, and although the facilities seemed a bit old, the interior was clean and nice.
I booked this hotel for its location, food, onsen and price. Whilst others have complained about the ryokan being old but be prepare to pay more if you want something newer as price certainly don’t like. Our room was big and the hotel is just 5 mins walk from the station. The station have a ropeway to other place of interest except that it was closed for maintenance during our stay but there was a substitute bus that us to the next ropeway. We left our luggage with the hotel whilst we explored the area. When we came back they already put our luggage and bags into our room. They heated the room and it was nice and warm when we walked in. They bring dinner to our room and set up our bed. Went to the onsen and it was all lovely. Great portions of dinner and breakfast served! Our room came with some local sweets and green tea set ready for us to prepare and drink. Room is clean, staff polited and they speak English well. We checked out and left our luggages with them whilst w explored more of the city. We came back to collect our luggages and was surprised to be given ¥500 which they found in our room. My son has put down ¥500 upon entering the room and totally forgot about when we checked. Such honest customer service. I would not hesitate to stay with them again. Thoroughly recommended them. Room is exceptionally clean and big. It might be old but we’ve stayed in older mode dated hotel than this! For ¥27500 per night we were served 4 traditional meals for 2 person, what better value is this?
This was the first ryokan that my sister and I stayed at in our Thanksgiving holiday trip to Japan, and Hakone Shirayunoyado Yamadaya Ryokan did not disappoint. We have to admit it was a journey’s away compared to the other ryokans and hotels in the area, but totally worth it. If I remember correctly, this ryokan was super close to the Hakone Ropeway (Sounzan Station?) which was terrific since we could get on early and be one of the earliest to enjoy the ropeway. A note for Hakone travelers, please don’t underestimate the transportation systems and distances in the area. What I mean by this is that while the buses are the most available transportation modes in the area, the ropeway, cablecar, and trains are also very integral transportations - especially if you are trying to get to this ryokan. The ryokan itself was very homey and pleasant. The staff was expecting us and checked us in almost immediately. I believe there were five floors in total and we were in the third floor - luckily next to the bath house. So an interesting note is that they actually change up the men and women’s bathhouses every day. For example, from morning to afternoon, the 3rd floor bath house would be for men and the 4th floor bathhouse would be for women. And then in the evening, they would change it up vice-versa. Don’t worry about getting confused though - you can recognize the gender by the curtains (red or blue). The onsen itself was simple but superb. They had one in the inside and two bathtubs outside - just like in their pictures. Our room was Japanese-style and had a wonderful view of the mountains. Very clean, warm (had a heater which was god-send since it was freezing where we were), and had simple amenities. I remember my sister being super excited about the bathroom as this was her first real experience with a private Japanese toilet. The staff were a delight and could speak sufficient English. They were very helpful and helped prepared dinner in our rooms and change out

Ryokan with the BEST traditional food, service and onsen experience. ”
I totally forgot to review my stay with them but if there is one thing to say about this establishment, it's their food; the breakfasts and dinners? HUGE portions and variety served in your room, ranging from fresh sashimi, stewed pork, pickles, tofu with miso (tasted like peanut butter), soup and rice. For breakfast, I do remember a huge spread as well but the one i remember most was having yoghurt with jam. The Onsen: If you're looking for a quiet and scenic retreat, look no further. There are 2 different bathrooms, one for women and the other, for men. And within each are 2 separate sections of the onsen; one inside the building and one, outside. The ones outside are basically tubs filled with hot water and the scenery is absolutely to die for. Go in the evening (4pm); you wont regret it! Though remember to wash your body down before dipping into the hot springs! They have allocated baskets/lockers to place your items/clothes and the bath times are planned to accommodate males and females bath times (women and men's bath times and rooms are different everyday so do look out for the signage before entering). There are hairdryers, soaps and shampoos in the onsen/bathrooms so you dont have to bring anything except yourself and your bathrobes/indoor slippers (which you can find in your room). The room: Has a powder room. It had cobwebs in the powder room but I didnt mind it; it is afterall, a ryokanwith rich history. The room, is extremely clean and spacious. The futon is crisp, clean and soft to sleep on. We went during autumn and it was cold. I slept closest to the charging point (power source) and my phone was freezing cold. Suggest to pack a warmer with you if youre planning to visit during autumn cause it was - 4 degrees celcius when we awoke at 4am 😂 There is a small souvenir store in the lobby and I really recommend getting the purple red bean wagashi/mochi(?). It's the same treat they provide on the first day you stay with them; can be found on the tabl
