    Review summary

Guests have praised the excellent and friendly staff for their helpfulness and sincerity. The onsen experience here is great with serene mountain view. Many guests enjoyed delicious traditional Japanese meals served at the onsen.

A few guests have noted a dated property with some unpleasant odors in shared facilities. The uphill location may pose a challenge for those with large luggage, but renting a car or taking a taxi is an option. Families with young children or elderly guests may find the distance inconvenient.

“2 Nights stay during Sakura period”

Stayed here for 2 Nights during March on a room only plan. Mr Nakamura went above and beyond for us, he was warm, welcoming and attentive even giving us some umbrellas when we checked out due to a unforeseen storm. The facilities are nice, the onsen is hot, clean and refreshing. The rooms are your typical Japanese style rooms with Tanami mats being in excellent condition with typical futon style setup for bedtime the futons themselves were pretty comfortable for 2 nights stay. Although we didn't get the breakfast or kaiseki dinner they looked exceptional and I heard no complaints from the other guests. The location is not to far from a bus stop to go to Togendai station (ropeway) or elsewhere. However there is an approximately 200m walk up a steep two way road to get to the accommodation from the bus if you choose to take it. I would stay here again if I come back to Hakone.

      “Charming”

This property is tucked away in the mountains but accessible by bus and a five minute hike up a paved road (can drive too and there is parking on the property). The room, although small, had a lovely sitting area with huge windows that faced out into the woods, giving a sense of spaciousness that made up for its size. I had worried initially about falling asleep on the futons but they were so comfortable and it was honestly one of the best sleeps I've had (perhaps a combination of being in the mountains and the hot onsen bath). The onsen was just amazing. We went in the evening and the daytime in order to try both small and big baths (they switch which bath is for males and females daily). We were lucky to get the big bath early in the morning as it just had the most spectacular view of the forest. We took advantage of the in-house breakfast and it is a must try! Traditional Japanese breakfast at its finest and I was surprised at how generous it was. Although we did not give advance notice they still accomodated my friend's gluten allergy for which we are so so so grateful. Thank you! There are also many restaurants along the main road not too far if you like walking as much as we do. We had dinner at one of the Italian cafes and that was also very good. We took advantage of the delivery service they offered and were able to travel the next day around Hakone without worrying about our luggage. We picked them up at the Yumoto station and went on our way by train to Odawara to catch the Shinkansen. All in all a lovely immersion into Japanese culture all thanks to the wonderful and friendly staff!

      “Surrounded by Nature”

Nakamura is a gorgeous onsen which really made me feel like I was alone in the mountains. In summer the hills and forest are alive with the sounds of nature, which I love, and coming back at the end of a day of walking up and down slopes to one of two relaxing onsens, I was at peace. The staff were very friendly and helpful, I know limited Japanese and am not very talkative, however the staff were able to explain everything and help me out as I required. If you aren't driving/being driven and have luggage, I would recommend getting off the bus at Senkyoro-mae and waiting for the 'S' line bus, as it will take you up the hill and passed Nakamura so you only have to lug it downhill. That being said there is still an incline and stairs turning up Nakamura's drive, but better than the couple hundred extra meters walking from Senkyoro-mae. I didn't eat any of the meals offered at Nakamura so can't comment, however next time I'm in Hakone I'll definitely be booking Nakamura again, and taking them up on breakfast and dinner.

“Please use a car to get around.”

When I made the reservation, it was for 6 people + later adding 1 more, making it a basic room for 5 people in a Japanese style, but on the day? There was no such room, so instead, I received 2 small Japanese rooms and paid an extra 1000 yen at check-out. But? It's okay! The rooms are super cute, and the yukata is cute, too, haha. I really liked the small terrace, so I didn't see any downsides at all. When you enter the accommodation, they introduce you to everything from the room to the onsen, and it was really fun to follow along and listen. Haha. There was a Lawson not too far away (a bit of a tough 10-minute walk). I went there at night, and the sky was so clear that I thought it was a first-class star, but it turned out to be the moon. It was so pretty that I almost got hit by a car while looking at the sky, haha. There is one big onsen and one small onsen; in the morning, the big tub is for women, and at night, it's for men. Since families visit often, sometimes there's a boy in the women's bath, so be careful not to overlap times with other guests... ^_^; If you play the lookout game well, it can feel like you have the whole place to yourself~ The landscaping outside the window is cute! The waiting room? is nicely decorated too, and there's a drink vending machine on the way to the onsen. Haha. In the room, there's a heater? Radiator? I don't know what to call it. When you turn it on, it gets warm, but I don't know which button to press, and I keep feeling cold, so I called the manager, and they took care of it. That's my story, haha. The manager? Talks a lot and is really nice! (Probably) I'm quite satisfied for now. The girls had a lot of fun together... There are people who can't handle the sulfur onsen, right? But they said it's okay to drink, and I feel like the lime-rich tap water is better than that.... I felt like I might die of itching when I returned to Tokyo; if I didn't take a hot spring bath after coming all the way to Hakone, it would have been a big loss......... You should bathe twice in the morning and evening. Downsides: The soundproofing is really seriously lacking. I could hear the laughter of the friends in the next room very well. Regarding bugs... there's accommodation in a mountain valley, and if you get all worked up about one ant, you should just stay home and not come... We didn’t have any in our room. The price is decent, and the atmosphere is good, but the location... sigh... I let it slide... The location is decent, but the incline is really damn steep, so prepare mentally for that.... It's worth it, though. But if you're walking? I wouldn’t recommend it... Call for a ride, haha. Next time I come, I'll probably stay at least 2 nights and rent a car too.... ★★★ Please remember this★★★ - If you get to Hakone Yumoto Station by 12:30 PM, there's a paid service to deliver your luggage to the accommodation (Go search it! I arrived at 12:26 PM, and I don’t know why they didn’t do it; anyway, get there early!) There’s also the opposite; for those taking the Romance Car back, make sure to calculate your time and apply. ^_^... Sending luggage from the accommodation to Hakone Yumoto can be requested at the accommodation! (I wanted to request it too, but the Romance Car to Shinjuku departs at 11 AM, so the luggage delivery time didn’t match, and I just dragged my suitcase down the hill.) ‼️‼️‼️ If you don’t know this, it’s a big loss, so please apply and travel comfortably with both hands free; coin lockers are pricey! 😭😭😭 When it was 5 degrees in Tokyo, the day after the snowstorm forecast, it was -5 degrees in Hakone (I went in February). It was really cold! I was going to Hakone Shrine, but it was so cold, I took one picture of the torii from the side and immediately took the bus to Hakone Yumoto, damn, haha. Ah... Once I got down, I thought I would live. Come fully prepared, really... I brought hand warmers, but after 30 minutes in the mountain wind, they were already ineffective; it was seriously freezing. I almost died in an unfamiliar place...................

“A very good place for the price.”

This is the only place that serves both dinner and breakfast as kaiseki at this price, so I made a reservation, and I was pleased with the meals, the accommodation, and the bath. I didn’t have a car, so I took the bus, but I used the service to send my luggage from the station to the inn (for those without a car, this is not an option but a necessity!). The bus ride was easier than I expected. However, I can't say that the accessibility is great. As mentioned in other reviews, there isn’t much around, so I recommend stopping by a convenience store in advance. Also, I suggest bringing water, as everything here was great but there was no drinking water in the room, and I had to drink tap water. I would have liked to boil some water, but the electric kettle was too dirty to use... Everything else was great; the food for both meals was excellent, and the staff was friendly. The bath had few guests, so it felt almost like a private rental! The large and small baths change between male and female every day, so if you're staying for one night, you can enjoy both baths once in the evening and once in the morning. The water was great and relieved all my fatigue—highly recommended!
