I would say The Grand Hotel, Nuwara Eliya is one of the best hotels I have ever stayed in Sri Lanka. Perfectly located with a quiet surrounding still with in walking distance to the city center. Grand is a British empire era hotel and certainly lives up to it’s name. The look and the feel are undoubtably majestic. The staff was extremely friendly and I would like to mention Sasanka and Duminda from the front office for their excellent customer service, Mr. Bala from the Bar for the friendly game of pool and his vivid explanation on the history of the location ( the three pool tables are more than 100 years old and the building is a part of the original governor’s bungalow from 1800’s!) and Chef Augustus for the wonderful birthday cake (It was my son’s birthday a few days back, and the cake was complementary). The restaurant staff too were welcoming, warm and enthusiastic. The Indian restaurant is a ‘must-try’ !

Hotel was walking distance to Park, Gregory Lake and town. We had rooms 334 and 337. Rooms were spacious and clean. No AC, but didn't needed it. Breakfast buffet was great. We had dinner at Magnolia and Thai restaurants, food and drinks were great. Staff was impeccable. "Mr. Gobi" was very knowledgeable and helpful. He was able to assisted us in planning our days at Nuwara Eliya. Went to see "World's End" - Must see. Guide we had was very knowledgeable. We hiked near the ledge of World's End and not for the faint-hearted. Overall we had a great time. And to the staff at Grand Hotel ........ Thank you for a great stay.

This hotel was great with children as the playground occupied them for hours. Well located in Nuwara Eliya and we had interconnecting rooms which was perfect with our 3 children. Great buffet breakfast and indeed this is a very "grand" hotel. Highly recommend.

Lovely hotel and service with a smile”
We booked a deluxe but we were upgraded to a suite. The suite was really fantastic Lovely and spacious bedroom and a separate living room and dining, and a very clean bathroom. Tasty food and a friendly staff. Next time when we go to Nuwara Eliya definitely we will stay at Grand Hotel.

Great hotel, great location,great staff”
The location of the hotel in Nuwara Eliya is stunning as is first sight of the hotel interior. We were welcomed with a smile and cup of tea together with traditional juggery (a sort of crunchy fudge). Our room had a view of the garden and was well equipped and spotlessly clean. The staff during our stay were excellent, as was the food, especially breakfast.

Charming colonial old hotel”
It's a very beautiful hotel, antique, confortable, big rooms. They upgraded us to a perfect room facing the garden, huge, with 2 chimneys. You can walk to downtown Nuwara Eliya and just stroll for relaxing the good weather (cool) and other colonial houses. Good starting point for visiting tea plantations.

This was a really good hotel that has been lovingly restored. It is well located and the food is excellent. This appears to be the best hotel in Nuwara Eliya and certainly lives up to its reputation as a "Grand" hotel. There are cheaper places to stay but it is such a treat - like going back in time.

This was the highlight of our stay in Nuwara Eliya, and one of the nicest hotels we stayed in during a 10 day trip to Sri Lanka. The hotel is stunning with lots of character, the food was excellent and the staff extremely helpful and friendly.

Nuwara Eliya - Grand Hotel Review”
This is a clean and simple hotel. It has a nice little garden and a cute tea shop where you can taste different kinds of teas and even buy a few if you like. Nuwara Eliya is pretty boring and one of the highlights of going there (for us) was the beautiful views and mountains. Unfortunately, from the Grand Hotel, this view is not very visible. If you are going to Nuwara Eliya and will stay at the Grand Hotel, make sure to eat at the little Indian restaurant. It is managed by the hotel, but has a different owner, so it has very reasonable prices and amazing food. We tried the Butter Chicken wich was fenomenal and the Dhal I think which was also very good.

All through my childhood, my entire family used to go to Grand Hotel for lunch whenever we were in Nuwara Eliya, so I was keen to stay one night and see. We stayed for my mother's birthday and it was pleasant, and my cousin organized a cake from their coffee shop which was delivered to the room. The food was interesting, though I would have preferred a varied buffet because my mother and I are vegetarian. Would stay again in a few years.

The rooms were alright, but the hotel was amazing. Best location to stay in Nuwara Eliya. Must try the Indian and Thai restaurants. The tea room was also very nice.

it's a pleasant stay in Grand hotel of Nuwara eliya. her England style architecture and old-fashioned decorations reminds me of elegant and beautiful old times. the room is clean and neat, the heater is great and the outside surroundings such as huge pines and cedars and cool breezes made us relaxed and satisfied. but the room rates are too expensive.

Hotel staff was very helpful and courteous. Little inconvenience was experienced at first, course me & my wife were given a room having seperate beds. However once showed, they changed the room to a new one with twin beds. Since we got boarded the following day of the Xmas, we could have experienced decorations. Since the hotel is located very close to Nuwara Eliya town, we could have brought our daily essentials to the hotel without wasting our time in the hotel. Our television was bit small and it was an old CRT type one giving pictures with less saturation. It would have been better if it was LED one with a larger screen. Grand Hotel is a lovely place given its historic nature of the building, lovely setting with greenery and the location, which is close to pretty much everything one could ever imagine while staying in Nuwara Eliya. The food choices as well as the ambience too is worth mentioning. Definitely will be there again!

nice hotel but too formal”
we stayed in the hotel in order to go to the Hortons Plains National Park and World's End. Nuwara Eliya is a small place and the hotel looked like the best option. The room was clean and we really liked the Indian restaurant operating right outside the main building. Had to leave right away so didn't have a lot of time to spend in the hotel.

Beautiful old hotel ”
the grand hotel has wonderful central areas such as the reception/lounge area, restaurants, bar and billiards room however the bedrooms are a little tired. expect a lot of tourists there as the tour groups stay there. a definite must for visitors going to nuwara eliya as the town is a bit of a dump and apart from the grand and st andrews there aren't many buidings representing the "little britain" that it is known for. we went to lunch at st andrews and were happy we chose the grand which was the cheaper and more impressive of the two hotels.
