Yuzawa hotels & places to stay

I travelled with my husband and 4 yo daughter. It's an easy gateaway from Tokyo to experience Japanese traditional life in a nice Japan mountain area. We stayed in Japanese style room, sleeping in tatami with pretty snow covered mountain/hill, we went to the hotel's private onsen day and night, had good selection of Japanese breakfast at the hotel. There's free shuttle bus service near the hotel to get to Gala Yuzawa. And the hotel is right infront of Echigo Yuzawa Station. So it's just perfect to travel with kids, since what we're looking for is anything convenient and easy to travel to but also giving us a memorable experience in Japan

We upgraded the Japanese style room we booked through Agoda and stayed in the ryokan's Sara suite. It was a perfect getaway for 2! The staff was very friendly, and the ryokan's GM, Tomoko, explained everything we need to know and even gave tidbits about Japanese culture--how to use the onsen, how to wear the yukata provided, and how to drink matcha. The suite had everything we needed, it had its own private onsen and a massage chair, which were perfect after a day of skiing at Gala Yuzawa snow resort. The Japanese style beds were very comfortable, and the whole ambience of the suite was very relaxing and peaceful. And the highlight of our stay was the Japanese kaiseki dinner that we booked, and the Japanese breakfast that was included in the package--very delicious and it completed our ryokan experience.

The food was excellent! The location was convenient! The Kawabata museum is beautiful and fascinating. The town of Yuzawa is absolutely stunning, especially in winter! What you may have heard before is absolutely true: there was no snow or rain, but green fields as we entered the tunnel, but when we came out of the tunnel into Yuzawa, a beautiful, snow covered landscape opened up before us. It was stunning. It was "magical".

We arrived at Ichigo Yuzawa Station mid morning after a red eye flight from Hong Kong and telephoned the hotel, who quickly sent a minibus to pick us up from the railway station and bring us to the hotel. At first it seemed we were too early to check in, but the room became available and was released to us. We quickly changed and the hotel provided a shuttle bus to the nearest ski slopes. We should have rented equipment from the hotel, much cheaper than the Yuzawa Park resort. As we were only on a 3 day trip we stuck with this ski area, but next time I would explore Gala Yazawa and NASPA. The hotel seemed to have bus options to all these places. The six person room we had was comfortably appointed, with Japanes style futon beds, and an efficient heater which meant we could dry wet clothing. The evening meal and breakfasts were excellent, but didn't really suit my western children. Each evening we enjoyed the hot baths. On our last day, we checked out, went off skiing and were still allowed to use the hot baths. A shuttle bus to the station and we were in Tokyo by 8 p.m. We had a thoroughly enjoyable stay at Yuzawa Denkiya. The hotel staff could not have been more helpful, and English was not a problem. Highly recommended.

Visited the Yuzawa Onsen during winter in the skiing season. The hotel is located just opposite the station and the bus stop with the shuttle buses to the various ski resorts like GALA Yuzawa, Yuzawa Kogen and Naeba is just in front of the hotel. The room I was given is very spacious and have a view of the station and the surrounding hills and mountains. There are two hot spring baths in the hotel. There is a small hot spring bath on the upper floors separate from the indoor baths which are on another floor. I booked with a half-board plan and both dinner and breakfast were sumptuous and beautifully presented. The rice is a signature of this region and it was really good. If you are not keen on a heavy meal, you could opt for meals at the station which are rather affordable and open till rather late. Overall, I had a enjoyable and comfortable stay at Echigo no Oyado Inamoto.

We were travelling with 2 young children, the services & respond are great, accessibility is easy for us with hotel shuttle to pick/drop us to Shinkansen station and to Gala Yuzawa Ski Resort. The furniture is a bit dull, but it shows the character of the place. Hotel staff is exceptionally friendly, helpful & hospitality is top-notch. Managed to visit the laid-back Onsen with my kid during quiet hours. Overall it was an unforgettable stay, we felt pampered during our stay and enjoyed every moment of it. Thank you (“Domo Arigato”) to all Hotel Futaba’s staff for a wonderful experience.

It's my first time to stay in a ryokan/onsen. It's also my first time to experience snow. It's a dream come true. It was really beautiful and fun. It was breath-taking! The Ryokan and the onsen exceed my expectations. All the staff made my stay really special. The staff's hospitality is on point. Love that they have a service (transportation) for the guests, free of charge, from the bus stop to Kaikake Onsen, and going back. They also have extra snow boots for guests (at no cost) just in case you need them. The onsen location is superb. The Ryokan is very neat, clean, and historical. The food is super impressive! Utilities are on point. When the manager learned that I was alone, but booked a room for 2, they gave me complimentary shots of different kinds of Japanese sake at dinner. Super grateful for the management's and the staff's kindness. There are more, but I guess you need to experience it for yourself. Hands down to Rina, for touring me around, and for making me feel at home.

Hotel owner is very nice and friendly. We arrived at night in winter time, unexpectedly he arranged dinner for us for free. Before our arrival, we had lots of email communication and he replied promptly. He also helped me to buy Shinkansen tickets for my departure and booked a taxi for us from station to hotel on arrival day. I highly appreciate the hospitality of him! I don't think I can find any warm and sincere hotel owner in anywhere else! Thank you very much! Room is big and clean, we booked twin bedroom with bunk bed but somehow we got a bigger bedroom with three beds and a bunk bed. How nice! Hotel also has a common share bathroom, that is great after a tiring ski day, it is great to soak in a huge bathtub, very relaxing. Hotel has shuttle to Naeba Prince resort, it is actually just 5 mins walk from hotel to ski resort, very convenient. We had breakfast daily at hotel, menu are different daily, from Japanese breakfast to western, big portion, and tasty.

Excellent stay and staffs were very helpful. Free shuttle service to and from Echigo Yuzawa station. Stay was made very convenient and pleasant. Many thanks to Mr Amano who went out of his way to help us everyday, morning and evening. He must be very tired when we stay there. Breakfast and Dinner was excellent with many food. Onsen was clean and nice. Will return again. Love the stay.

We stayed 2 nights here. It’s very good place for skiing trip. The room is Japanese style. Our room has stunning mountain view on the 4th floor. Two of best things here were the staff and location. Staff was excellent helpful and friendly, very impressed! The location was just few steps to Yuzawa Kogen Ropeway station. The hotel provides all ski gears for renting so it’s very convenient here. Only thing you have to be aware is the toilet and bathroom are sharing style and there is no elevator but staff was very helpful with luggage up and down on checkin/out time anyway. We recommended this place to stay.

I believe staying at kinta was exceptionally expensive given the price I've paid and even when my partner had to cancel, they refused to give any money in refund, saying that breakfast is on them, eventhough breakfast should be included in the price. For the amount paid for the tatami room this was the most expensive I've ever paid. It was half the price in Yuzawa and it was not cold like this room was. However, the owners are super nice people and they drove me.to one of the best restaurants I've ever been to. They were nice but I'm sorry but I can't leave it without saying anything about the room. Breakfast was very good tho

We reach there 7pm on the winter season while the snow was quiet thick. Lucky the hotel is very near to the station Echigo Yuzawa, you can just walk straight for about 100m and easily spot it on the right side. The room is quite big, they even have electric foot massage. Very useful for those who spent the whole day walking around the Tokyo. The next day we went to Gala Yuzawa and the owner offer us a ride there. Its quite nice experience especially my kid was very happy seeing the snowrain for the first time.

Stayed here for a few nights for a short getaway ski trip from Tokyo. Located right on the NASPA mountain ski slopes - skiers only, no snowboarding allowed which is quite unique. However, as an intermediate-advanced skier you will prob. get bored skiing at NASPA so we moved to other areas - Kagura (15 mins away) was a gem and highly recommended to avoid the crowds. Back to the hotel. Free parking if you have a car. Large and crowded but mostly with locals from all parts of Japan. Great large rooms (we had a big Japanese-style tatami room; so I didn't get to see the Western rooms). Breakfast and dinner were as the other reviewers - the first night is great since it's a big buffet and it's all new. Both good quality Japanese & Western cuisine. However, the second night and onwards it's pretty much the same food and can get boring quite quickly. Check out other food options inside the JR Echigo-Yuzawa station. Great place to do some souvenir shopping and sake drinking and eating!

We've enjoyed the stay very much though we've only stay one night. Although the staff doesn't speaks English very well but they tried their best to understand our request and they were very helpful. Location is just opposite the train station hence very convenient. There are many interesting shops in the station and food is not a problem. But if you are bringing young kids ... bathing may be a problem as they do not have private bath and it may be very cold during year end. Overall its a very nice place

The hotel is a short walk of about 500 meters away from Echigo Yuzawa station although for us, it was a long slog as we arrived in the middle of heavy snowing! We got all our shoes and socks wet in the puddles.but Hirokawa has a heater in the general area, which allowed us to dry our shoes and socks. The hotel also provided us with umbrellas and rubberised boots for the next 2 days that allowed us to do our sight seeing at the nearby ski resorts. The room itself is a large room with mattresses on tatami mats and I love it. It has a toilet though you will have to use a shared bathroom. The owner speaks pretty good English so you would have no problem communicating. Getting around, there is a free shuttle bus (Yellow Line) every half hour running between Naspa and Gala Yuzawa and there is a bus stop conveniently located right in front of Hirokawa in both directions. Overall, my family really had a great time here.

Even the taxi driver found it difficult to locate the hotel. Though the hotel is said physical close to Naeba Prince Hotel, it probably takes at least 8 mins walking distance (instead of 4 mins as posted online) to Prince Hotel. It would be awful if walking in big snowing because the car park will be flooding. Non-Japanese guests would likely find it frustrated to communicate with staff in hotel. No pickup from nearby train station.

My wife and I was here in late December 2018 for 2 nights. We wish we stayed longer. White Horse is a really nice wooden concept Inn about 100m away from Mitsumata ropeway. Access from Echigo-yuzawa station is about 20 minutes by an hourly Public Bus. (Bus No. 1) The Inn is warm and equipped with a shared cooking and dining area. Coming from South East Asia, the weather was really cold for us (-6 degrees when we were there), but the Inn was really comfortable and has a number of heaters in the common areas to keep you warm. It felt like staying at a friends place. The rooms were basic but spacious. The beds were comfy and this is important after being bashed up in Kagura as first time skiers. The Inn owner Nori is a really friendly person who goes out of his way to make you feel at home. The Inn also provide full ski/snowboard equipment rental at good rates and you can get discounted Kagura Ski Resort passes from him. Highly recommended and we hope to come back!
