Stellenbosch hotels & places to stay

We spent the weekend of 15-17 June 2012 at Asara. From the sincere welcome at reception, the waiters and maintenance staff was superb - the staff go out of their way to be helpful and to assist. The Delux room was large, neat and clean. The bathrooms were also spacious with a separate bath and shower. The free WiFI was an added bonus. We had a beautiful view of the mountains surrounding Stellenbosch. Breakfasts were good with a varied selection of hot and cold dishes. We enjoyed an amazing dinner ar Raphael's restaurant on the one evening with a great selection of dishes and attentive service. We really enjoyed our stay at Asara and will be back in the near furure!

De Oude Werf property impresses on every level and we cannot say enough things about this wonderful venue. Nestled and tucked away on a trendy Stellenbosch street, we were warmly welcomed by the manager John and his concierge staff. We even got a tour of the hotel and the hospitality simply amazing. The rooms are out of this world and I leave that for you to find out. Both the bar lounge area and dining room are central focal points for De Oude Werf. On this visit the food manager, Derrick and his capable barman, Wesley spoiled us with cocktails and snacks from the kitchen. We highly recommend two local drinks - the Rooibos Gin, and the Vodka Passionfruit Lemonade. Dinners were amazing and we opted for the De Oude Werf Trio - a medley of Bobotie, Ox-Tail and Chicken Pot Pie - the chef did it justice. Breakfast each morning was simply divine and perhaps the best I have experienced. We will stay here again in the future. I rate this venue 5 stars without pause or hesitation.

Beautiful estate. Lots of features in addition to the wine estate. SO much to do. LOvely wine to taste. Great out doors. U can choose to just sit down, lay back and enjoy the peace by the river, or see birds of prey. The room were really nice as well. Fire place. service was warm and personal. we left the estate with a heavy heart after two days of wonderful stay and sight seeing in stellenbosch. :)

About 7 miles from centre of Stellenbosch, this is the finest place we have ever stayed in or around the town. Beautiful surroundings, historic Dutch-style buildings and great staff. The views of the mountains and the lake are wonderful. Breakfast excellent. We had a cottage which was great. They do not serve dinner here, only breakfast and lunch, but there are places a short drive away.....try Hidden Valley, not far up the road. The Ernie Els Winery is nearby (reopening later in 2019). Webersburg is now the only place we would stay when in Stellenbosch.

Stayed 4 nights and really enjoyed it. We loved our modern, comfortable apartment and enjoyed playing golf and the very good location which was 10 mins drive to central Stellenbosch and within easy driving distance of many wineries. We liked the ability to self cater and also enjoyed dinner in Chez Shiraz - very nice food, good value and friendly service. We will definitely return.

Stunning gardens, magnificent art, and beautiful rooms. The villas and rooms were well appointed with current designer taste throughout!! The food is gourmet/ delicious! The service is top notch from the front desk to the servers, the spa staff and the concierge!! Our room staff kept everything immaculate so we can only say thank you and give you 6 stars. We were treated like royalty and cannot wait to go back!!!

Amazing views we didn’t wanna leave but we chose a wrong time to go where it was cloudy and rainy.. but still when the sun peaks out it was breathtaking... we got one of the best views! Food there is amazing too and wine tasting was so affordable and the cloud wines are top notch! Will go there again as it’s next to the Delaire Graff also, and we get a private buggy to go to the Graff for another winetasting and food at Indochine... all is all it was ahhmayzing!!

This boutique hotel ticked all the boxes: excellent friendly service from knowledgeable staff; fittings in the suite, especially the bathroom were excellent, and the breakfasts superb. An excellent location just outside the main town of Stellenbosch that gave good access to many of the regions wineries and restaurants. The views from our balcony and the public rooms were stunning. Would definitely return should we be back in this part of the world.

This hotel is located outside Stellenbosch in a quiet area with beautiful views. The rooms were large and comfortable. The restaurant was good but not of the quality that we anticipated. The breakfast staff unfortunately were offhand and didn't appear to be interested in the guests. This was however in contrast with the evening dining staff who were very pleasant and attentive. The admin staff the rest of the staff were also excellent.

We stayed at Avenues Guest Lodge for 2 nights towards the end of our 4 week trip to South Africa & absolutely loved it! Avenues is very conveniently situated, meaning that we could walk to the restaurants, bars & shops. The lodge was beautifully & tastefully decorated & our room was spotlessly clean, well equipped & comfortable! The pool was an added bonus & very welcome after a day out wine tasting! Breakfast was also excellent, with a choice of cereals, fresh fruit & yogurt, muffins,cold meats & cheeses as well as freshly cooked English breakfast if wanted! This set us up for he day! All the staff were extremely friendly & helpful, which made our stay even more enjoyable! We would not hesitate to recommend Avenues Guest Lodge to anyone looking to stay in Stellenbosch!

From the moment we arrived at Twice Central everything was perfect. Our room was huge and decorated beautifully. They really did think about every little detail, even leaving us a nightcap for when we got back exploring Stellenbosch. The location is great and so easy getting to all the restaurants and bars. Breakfast was fantastic and all the staff was so friendly and helpful. We borrowed bikes to explore the area in the morning which was lovely and a great way to see a bit more. There’s really nothing I can fault about the guesthouse!

The lodge is ideal for a stay in the area for exploring the wine-growing regions around Stellenbosch and Franschhoek. The rooms are very nice and guarantee a relaxing stay in a very quite facility. The breakfast is great and very delicious, the restaurant offers great meals for dinner. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The own wines can be tasted at the "Herenhuis" with an unbelievable scenic view across the surrounding mountains and vineyards. We always would come back in the future.

It's just like your own home bedroom… except that Mars Bars are left on your pillows and there is a little bottle of wine and homemade biscuits left on the dresser! The beds are definitely worth a mention - think perhaps the most comfortable bed i've had in my whole two week stay. Friendly owners and a lovely breakfast spread available. This is in a very quiet neighbourhood - great for sleep but not great for getting into town if you do not have your own transport. The walk of 4 km is mostly along a busy road (which you wouldn't want to walk on during the day let alone the evening) - taxis are also very scarce and therefore prices high - so if you go out for dinner stick to the bottle of water rather than the bottle of grape!

This place is beyond what we imagined. It’s a 4-5 rooms huge permises, each has its own private bathroom and kitchen. (There’s also a big shared kitchen and BBQ grill if you wosh to cook on your own). Breakfast was fresh and fabulous and accompannied by the magnificent view of the place - same view we woke up to every morning and thought we were still dreaming. Nick and Nadine hosted us with open hearts. Hoping to come back there asap.

I enjoyed a very nice stay at Lumley's place. On arrival I was surprised to see so many cars and people but it turned out to be the owners Son's 21st birthday. All fine and I settled in for a quiet evening whilst the family celebrations took place. Later in the evening I was then invite dot join them for some unexpected dinner. The owners and the family were very friendly and hospitable and made my stay unique and rather special. After a good sleep and a hearty breakfast sadly I had to leave for the airport !

The apartment has a great location, close to all the restaurants and attractions in Stellenbosch. We found the apartment, spacious, clean, comfy and well provisioned with a washer, dryer and dishwasher. The welcome pack of staples and fruit was much appreciated as we arrived late at night. The bathroom in the bedroom is a little odd, but there is a second toilet in the hallway, OK if there are only 2 of you staying. Secure parking is a bonus. Would have been nice to have free wifi as most other places offer this now. We found organising key pick up on arrival a bit tricky as we didn’t have a phone with us. A lot of the other apartments in this complex have a secure, coded, lock box in the foyer for door keys, this would be convenient for both the owner and guests.

A gem of a place, and only a 10 minute walk to the town center. The staff and owners went out of their way to make this a fabulous stay and you were made to feel at home. The breakfasts were fabulous, the rooms were a bit small but very cozy and the pool was inviting (even if we didn't use it because it was winter). I would stay at this guesthouse time and time again. Simply perfect!

Very pleasant small hotel close to town centre yet quiet. Range of excellent restaurants within easy walking distance. Room was very comfortable with good bathroom and shower. Staff very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was fine except for the quality of the smoked salmon and bacon which I overlooked to mention to the staff. Overall a very good place to stay in Stellenbosch.
