Where to stay in Johannesburg
Johannesburg hotels & accommodations

The staff was very helpful, the breakfast was extraordinary, abundant and diversified. The room was comfortable, clean and the area of the hotel was always secure. The shuttle service to the airport was very helpful. All in all best starting point for travels or flights to other destinations in South Africa.

Hotel is close to the airport. Free shuttle to and from the airport. Entertainment on site. A variety of eating places and meals are reasonably priced. Friendly staff who are always willing to help with whatever you need. This made it a pleasurable stay at the Peermont Mondior. Rooms are spacious and clean. Breakfast was included in the price and there was a great spr...

we had a very nice experience in your wonderful hotel! the best hotel i could think of in johannesburg! everybody treated us with smiles and service 24/7.the rooms are so nice that you dont even want to get out of there! relaxing athmosphere and quite surroundings outside the hotel with lots of parks and jogging areas for the joggers. i will recommend the genesis ...

This hotel has a lot going for it. It is my hotel of choice in Johannesburg. It's great value for money and not far from the M1 highway, the staff are friendly , keen to assist and efficient. There are hourly complimentary shuttles to Sandton City (Nelson Mandela square) which is close to the gautrain station. As a smoker it is rare to find a hotel that has smoking ro...

Stayed on our way into and out of South Africa as very convenient for the Johannesburg airport and much better value than the hotels on the airport. Large comfortable rooms and bathrooms (separate shower and bath), regular free shuttle to airport and they allow you to leave luggage if you are coming back to stay. Did not have time to check out facilities. An excellent ...

I could've found a cheaper hotel in Johannesburg, but then I'd have needed to pay for a cab out to Oliver Tambo. Excellent to be able to walk to the check-in desk without having to wait for a shuttle or without having to try to forecast traffic jams. Also liked the fact that I could do last minute gift and snack shopping in the airport mall. I didn't use the hotel res...

We were looking for a hotel near OR Tambo airport and were really pleased we chose here. Everything was splendid and I don't think I could reasonably find anything to grumble about. The facilities and staff were of the highest calibre, especially the staff. I will certainly stay here again when next in Johannesburg. (This was our first visit to South Africa and I hop...

Can I say fabulous again...this was by far the best hotel that I have been too and I stay at five star hotels...but the service and grounds were awesome. I think there are 10 rooms so very intimate. The room(suite?)I stayed in had a private outdoor space that included shower, hot tub, lounge area and table and chars that we had breakfast the next morning. The room h...

The people are extremely friendly and helpful. I been travelling across various counties and hotels for the past 3 years and this was my best stay considering I stayed in 5 star hotels outside SA as well. I can only speak good things about my stay and the people must keep it up and make me a proud South African. Well Done to the teams who took great care of me for nea...

Booked this as a last minute stay for our last day in J'oburg and we were impressed. Check in was efficient and quick. You do need to review a few papers though, notable the inventory list but they make it seemless and quick. The suite had all we needed, including a washing machine. No dryers in the smaller units though. Location in Sandton is greata few minutes walk f...

I had a great time. The staff were helpful and knowledgeable about most things. The food was splendid and the environment was very nice. Didn't dare to move around outside in the night time but that is not the hotel's issue as it seems South Africa on the whole does not present a safe image.

Amazing experience, beautiful estate, great spa, awesome dinner at Qunu Restaurant and best of all the rooms are just spectacular. This hotels goes to great lengths to focus on detail to ensure that each guest experience is on comfort and luxury. Service very friendly and professional making this the best hotel in Johannesburg and one of the best in South Africa. We lo...

What an amazing and restful stay. Sparkling wine upon checkin, super friendly and accommodating staff -they even put roses on the bed as it was our Anniversary. Complimentary mini bar in the room with snacks and drinks. Great food at the restaurant for both breakfast and dinner. The outside bar was great for sundowners and had great cocktails. The VIP room we stayed in...

Stayed in this property for our last part of our South Africa Trip. I truly recommend this property. Spacious Room and Clean. Good Location too. Part of my itinerary is to visit the Famous Neighbourgoods Market. This is just walking distance from the hotel. Also, this is walking distance too from THE SMOKEHOUSE AND GRILL - go grab some good steak ang ribs!

at first i reserved this hotel for 4 days but i have to be in johannesburg for a week. after 4 days i found it very good hotel so i prefered stay there for rest of days i have to be in johannesburg. nice place, warm people, best location near to nelson mandela square by taxi around 5 min.

This four-star hotel is only ten minutes away from the Johannesburg airport. The rooms are spacious, clean and well decorated. The parking lot is huge and hold hundreds of cars. Free shuttle service is also provided. The hotel staff are professional and friendly. The complementary breakfast is healthy and delicious. Chinese TV programs and flight information can be wat...

We spent 2 nights here on either side of travelling to Tanzania for a Safari. Connie and here team could not have been more welcoming and helpful, they were just marvellous. The complimentary shuttle to & from the airport as well as transporting us to nearby restaurants was a fantastic feature also. The included breakfast was fresh and really substantial. If there wa...

Lovely rooms! Location is nice. Close to Sandton mall, walkable. That was why I chose the place anyway. Cons - Breakfast is just there, very bland. Ugh! The Staff, only Sammy, the concierge guy was friendly and nice. I had already booked the hotel before reading reviews, most of the bad reviews I read were about the staff and had nothing to do with the hotel facilit...

We really enjoyed our stay at the Town Lodge and the atmosphere appears to be a standard each time we visit. I would request that the Hotel considers putting a fridge in each room with some drinks whose cost could be part of the hotel rate. If not possible consider this as an extra upon request. Also, the transfers the hotel can communicate the name of the driver and ...

It was a pleasant stay, my room had everything I needed. Comfortable bed, very good and clean bathroom. Every gadget that I used in the room was working perfectly. The staff was so friendly. Unfortunately I didn't get an opportunity to visit their restaurant and bar. I was invited for a happy hour which unfortunately I failed to attend because of some business commitme...

I think this is a great hotel. It has a central location, just under 10min walk to Park station, there are lots of places to eat, many shops etc. It is clean, the breakfasts are amazing and the staff friendly and helpful. The location in Braamfontein is very good and there is a Red Bus stop directly outside the hotel. I would stay there again.

When we arrived in Johannesburg after a long flight, we got our rental car and drove directly to The Reef. The staff there was exceptional friedly and took every opportunity to make our stay more comfortable- always with a warm smile. We are ourselves front office manager and chef in a hotel in Switzerland - we found nothing to complain about. This is a good hotel in ...
Cheap places to stay in Johannesburg

The staff take very good care of ther customers, are friendly and helpfull and feels like staying with family, the guesthouse has it's own decoration style a nice roof terrace kitchen . some small things in the building could be improved or repaired, but its ok. It is about 10 min walking to the center, supermarkets and eatingplaces are nearby. They didn't came to p...

If you want to stay at a place where you widen your horizon, this is it! The hostel itself is very nice, in the bar you will meet interesting people and in the neighborhood really good restaurants. And if you have time take one of the tours they are offering.

Stayed in this property for our last part of our South Africa Trip. I truly recommend this property. Spacious Room and Clean. Good Location too. Part of my itinerary is to visit the Famous Neighbourgoods Market. This is just walking distance from the hotel. Good option near the airport. Very nice owners. Safe place with closed territory. Be aware that it is not backpackers place - check out is strictly at 9am, and check in is not available before 2pm. So, no couch crush after early departure. Also only first 50 mb of internet is free.

I spent only one night at Tassili Lodge. You get what you paid for, that means a room with minimum of facilities. The room is average but bed is clean so I quite enjoyed it. This hotel is ideal for a 1-2 night stay, probably not more. It's a great location, around 5-10mn away from the airport. I would come back again if ever I pass by Joburg. The place could look dodgy...

We arrive Johannesburg around 4:30 pm South Africa time and every cab we ask to take us to the hotel was saying they are not going to this area, not until i asked the thirteenth taxi why is everyone not going to this area then he answer and said have i been to that hotel before, i answered No, and cab man said you don`t really want to go there because it is not safe f...

The accommodation is exactly what is advertised, only downside is that on my confirmation email it was stated that check in time is any time after 12pm, upon my arrival at 12.30pm I was told my room is nowhere near being ready and check in time is at 2.00pm. The staff did however speed up the process and I checked into my room just after 1.00pm. The weird part was that...

A beautiful peaceful place. Really good value for money. So relaxing just sitting in the garden enjoying the views. We got a room right above the pool area and there was a bridal shower party on the Saturday evening. The staff were so kind to move us to a quieter room without hesitation. If you're wanting tranquility perhaps ask for a garden cottage depending on what...

We were unsure about Jo burg and had heard some uncomplimentary comments. As a result we needed somewhere to stay where we would be secure. This was the place. On arrival at the airport the lodge informed us who the driver would be with a phone call and he identified himself to us. We were driven to the secure premises and found the whole place charming and calming. Th...
It's an amazing little place. It's very quaint and homey. It's always clean and the staff are very friendly and helpful. It's equipped with a kitchen which you can use freely, as well as a fridge, Wi-Fi and a swimming pool. Alice prepares breakfast each morning and always makes sure the guests are comfortable and we'll attended to.

It was wonderful. I wanted to move in. It is so homey, but gorgeous and fancy as well. Stephen's decorating is amazing, and he clearly has a passion for it. The lawn, pool, river and outdoor areas are beautiful, especially at night when he turns on all the lights. Would be a really wonderful place to spend a romantic weekend. I loved sitting on the cool furniture out o...

Basic room. Simple and clean. Hot water was lovely probably the best I had experienced in joberg. Only problem is that there was no wifi which was really annoying. Staff said there was only wifi on one part of the building and you had to pay. Booo in this day and age this should be a basic. I wouldn't have booked it otherwise if I had known this at first.

Instead of heading to downtown Joburg which is more dangerous at night, why not stay at the Airport Inn. The room is huge and spacious, with atatched kitchen and living room. They allow late check in past midnight and the hotel is only a 10 minute drive from the airport, good for a wash up and rest during a long stopover or late night arrival.

Very good stay with no problems Good location near Sandton and also easy access to Grayston shopping centre and not too far from the M1 which is an arterial road that takes you quickly to Johannesburg city centre. Lovely setting in gardens 6 mins from Jo'Burg airport. Nice rooms and relaxing atmosphere. BUT: We booked and paid for a family suite but they were given to somebody else. We were provided 2 twin rooms. Nice rooms, comfortable and spacious, except one of the TVs didn't work and the floors were covered in black soot and no towels. One room had bird droppings on the she...

This is a well organized Guest House very close to Johannesburg airport with good facilities, large rooms and free WiFi which is a rarity in South Africa. It is very convenient for people arriving from, or departing for, overseas destinations. Good value for money.

This is a great hotel in the middle of Johannesburg international terminal. I transit through South Africa a lot and don't like the idea of having to go through security and immigration each time. The hotel is in a quiet part of the airport and you don't hear the planes. The only downside is that there is no eating in this hotel. There are lots of cafes in the transit ...

This was the third business trip to Africa that I've stayed at the Protea OR Tambo. I'm only ever transiting so need a good hotel near to the airport. I've tried several of the other bigger hotel options, but this is by far the best. The rooms are small but well designed, the beds are very comfortable and I always get a good nights rest. The restaurant is excellent, br...

i was very impresssed on the kind of service that the rivonia b&b staff had provided. the staff (namely zani, fillitah, farmer, jessica, charles and trust) were very friendly, kind and have a genuine desire to make your stay enjoyable. the room was very spacious and clean - it's better than a 4 star hotel! as a frequent traveller, i greatly appreciated that i was abl...

Being a returning guest I am happy always to be met by many familiar faces at this excellent family run property. lovely older hotel in the heart of sandton. built in 1949 and still retains a lot of rustic charm from its time as a stables. good value for money. rooms are a little small but beds are very comfortable and the room well appointed. bathrooms and shower are great. make sure you book room and breakfast. breakfast is great here and the sitting out area is really neat. ...

This is the 2nd time we have stayed at Afrique and yet again it did not disappoint. Staff are amazing. Rooms are spacious and clean. Dinner was amazing! We were leaving very early and they packed us a lunch. I was super impressed the sandwiches were in paper bags and the juice was in bottles so Afrique is away of the environment - that for me deserves 5 Stars! Well ...

5)3 accomodation was very good, and certainly equal to a 4 star hotel. Breakfast too was very good. The DSTv is lacking in channels, which I find personally annoying, however this is the same for all establishments apart from some 5 star hotels. I will return.

We were looking for a hotel near OR Tambo airport and were really pleased we chose here. Everything was splendid and I don't think I could reasonably find anything to grumble about. I’ve been to many hotels around the world and this is 10 star. The service is above and beyond and the place is amazing and so safe The comfiest bed I’ve ever slept on and bathroom and room were oversized I could have a party in there not that I did Will definitely be staying here again or suggest u do if you come to Johannesburg. Just wow. Close to mall and pret...

Our stay at The Winston was short but sweet. This was just a stopover on our way into South Africa, and after a long flight it was a perfect place to rest our heads and have some good food and wine, and a fairly quiet weekend before driving to Kruger. The entire place, and especially our room, was very beautiful and quiet. The staff was friendly and accommodating and t...

Really great apartment type hotel and location. Offers the relaxing getaway experience. The Camelot spa facility is an amazing addition on this property. However, the property lacks the warm hotel experience from reception to walking down the passages to the rooms. It feels like a high end apartment complex. They can add heaters/aircon for that warmth feeling. Otherwi...

We only stopped the one night due to catching a plane from airport back to UK. The welcome was good from the security personnel on the gate to reception. The restaurant staff and food were very good. I would deffinately stop again. This establishments staff are defining what overseas visitors should know about, how welcoming South Africa is.

Love this hotel. Great location set back from the main road, easy to get an Uber to anywhere in the city. Beautiful setting in a big garden with pool, the rooms are really lovely and comfortable with all needs met. Beds are large and comfortable, very clean and has real character about it. The welcome is particularly great and the staff and owners do everything they ca...

we had endless choices in which to stay our first night in south africa, but feel we made the best choice. the arican rock hotel is a small boutique hotel and they are sticklers on detail. we were met by a personal driver at jnb who again returned us to the airport the next morning. dinner that night and breakfast the next morning we both excellent. will stay here aga...

The Grace is a warm and cost boutique hotel in a great location - we have stayed here many times and always enjoyed it. They have nice extra touches, like complimentary scones and jam in the lobby lounge every afternoon, and complimentary canapes every evening. The hotel restaurant is one of the best in Johannesburg. The location is next to Rosebank Mall, so there are ...

Kleine Constantia is like a little piece of the Cape Winelands on the outskirts of Johannesburg, from the Cape Dutch architecture to the beautiful wooden furniture and the clear appreciation for good wine. I booked a night away as a last-minute surprise for my husband, and despite having almost no notice, the staff accommodated us incredibly well, even whipping up ...

The View Boutique Hotel has limited guest rooms which makes it a very relaxing place to settle in while in Johannesburg. Location is good, just a few minutes away from the city center, and there are a lot of uber in the area, so getting a ride is not a problem. The room is a bit on the luxurious side, and has a big and comfortable bed. I ran into a small problem with t...

Very Spacious Room with good comforts & fittings, nice walk in closet/dressing room, nice bathroom, good desk & business facilities in room & free internet, Great TV & satelite channels, Great food & room service. Have to say we were disappointed with Agoda as our booking didn't reflect on the hotel computer when we got there however the staff had accommodated my family of 6 with adequate rooms upon me showing them the confirmation booking. Thank you Lakeview staff but still disappointed with Agoda

My wife and I stayed here after a busy group tour through Southern Africa and we really enjoyed the comfortable, characterful surroundings and excellent service after what had been a very busy trip. Ideal if you have a car and use this as a comfortable and safe base rather than staying in Johannesburg or you just want a couple of relaxing days away from the city.

We stayed here on our last night of a 2 week trip to South Africa & it was the perfect way to end our holiday. We stayed on the club floor & had breakfast included as well as canapés & drinks in the late afternoon. Definitely worth the money we paid. I would recommend staying here to anyone.

The Westcliff is situated in a good part of Johannesburg and just a short walk from the zoo. The staff at Reception were unbelievably helpful in day-to-day issues, in arranging visits and helping get tickets for shows etc. As Johannesburg is a very large city it was really helpful that the hotel organize a free shuttle service (there and return) to various Malls and ve...

The hotel was well located for the events I was attending on the Melrose Arch estate. Good friendly staff, a warm amosphere is maintained in the Lobby and the dining areas. The rooms where equal to other five star hotels I have stayed in. Another plus was the easy walking distance to all the resturants and shops on the Melrose Arch gated estate. I would recommend Afr...

The choice of restaurant for linkage to the Raphael is poor. Dinner delivered as room service was cold, tough and tasteless. At breakfast, the poached eggs were served cold and had a tough crisp top I have never seen before. The coffee cup on my table ready for filling still had lipstick on the rim. I had to go looking for a waiter to get some coffee while two stood t...

Real reviews for hotels
Rather frightening, absolutely filty in city and surrounds.Would not visit city but move outside area.
I was visiting from London during November, to attend a event. Had a great time hanging out mainly in the Sandton, Melrose Arch, Rosebank and Morningside areas which are all good for general shopping, dining and a bit of people watching.
Some parts of the city may not be safe, but for other parts, they should be O.K. in general as long as you pay reasonable attention to your surroundings, etc.
Johannesburg is a great city with a lot of history and culture. It is a great eyeopener to anyone who is interested in finding out more about the economic, political and social development of South Africa post-apartheid.
You do not need a lot of time here. JHB is a business city, not much of a holiday spot. Saying that they have great restaurants and night life.
We stayed in Sandton only for our first visit to the city, and as we travelled during the holiday season, traffic was very good and it was no problem in finding the hotel.
awesome place ,city of wonder and contradiction, The history is rich and can be found all over the city.
The city is an armed camp. Retail and housing properties are enclosed in barbed wire and electric wire.
There is not that much to do in Johannesburg but it is a good starting point to visit the rest of the country.
Definitely a business city, I would not choose it for a vacation. When walking on the streets you are aware of safety.
A place to be, different habitants and cultures, good food and wine. Taxis always rushing and big roads.
I love Johannesburg! I'm a Durban girl and that will never change but I love being in Jo'burg. Always have tons of fun when I'm there.
Everywhere in SA is crime ridden, either you are a victim or are heavily shored up and warned against it.
In many places dangerous and filthy. One can feel who runs this city. Low standards in many aereas except areas like Sandton, Melrose Arch, Rosebank and few others.
Johannesburg is a big city that has a lot of attraction the people are very friendly lots of intertainment
Joburg isn't very rich in sight-seeing options but has a buzz from a vast range of entertainment options city-wide.
Been going yo Jo'berg for many years. Much to do there, shopping, night life, restaurants, casino. Worth a visit.
Very exciting, bustling international city. Must visit Sandton City, Gold Reef City and Montecasino if you love shopping and entertainment.
Johannesburg is not all that unsafe as long as precautions are taken, such as not walking about alone at night, and avoid venturing near groups of men loitering around.
Take a trip to Soweto, preferably with a guide. People in Soweto are friendly and you can see the living condition of the richest and poorest in the country.
I cannot say much about leisure time because I have only been to Johannesburg city centre for business and only 2 days and never got a chance to explore
It is better you go with group tour, or some one is there to take care of you. Never wondering around at night on street.
Melville is where you want to stay and hang out at night in Johannesburg. There are loads of tours in Jozi and although it will only take you a day or two to see everything.

I don't recommend coming to JoBurg unless you absolutely have to. When you are here, you must be aware of your personal safety and security at all times.
J'burg is an intimidating city - the crime rate is high and people with any money live behind high walls with electric fences on the top.
Inspite of the high crime in Johannesburg, the people that I met were friendly and warm. If you stick to the tourist areas, the chance of getting involved on any kind of danger is very remote.
A very good hotel with accommodative and friendly staff. Rooms are nice. I request the managewment to provide toilet privacy in rooms I.
