Ghent hotels & places to stay

When we arrived we were given a room which didn't look anything like the photos, it was a dark, sad looking room in need of updating, and the view out the window was of a brick wall; however, when we requested to move to a room facing the town centre and a brighter room, we were given one in the newer part of the hotel which was much more like the room I had envisaged when booking. Incidentally, on checking in we had been offered the opportunity to 'upgrade' for 30 euros a night which would have resulted in us being allocated this newer room, but had declined as I assumed we would already be in a room as per the hotel's website photos, and because I hadn't gone for the cheapest room option when booking either. Parking was easy and costs 16 EUR per 24 hrs which you pay when you check out at reception rather than in the carpark. The bar area was nice with a good selection of cocktails (although I only had the cocktail of the day). We didn't have the breakfast so can't comment on that. There are quite a few roadworks/ renovations throughout Ghent, and one of which was in the road directly outside our room and so if you're staying during the week I'd recommend ear plugs if you don't want to be woken up early, although they probably won't be doing the works for long (we stayed 26th-28th March 2015) and this is obviously not a fault of the hotel. The beds were lovely and big, and the receptionist helpful by giving us a map and guide. Overall a good stay, and I would say Ghent is much more reasonable than Bruges.

We were attracted to the loft suit which explains the booking. It was hard to locate the B&B since there’s no signages. The location is slightly off the city center of Ghent. About 10mins walk from Gavensteen Tram station. There are plenty of restaurants around the apartment and they open till late. We had problems with the noise by the pub-goers downstairs until 1am or so. The room is spacious. There is a balcony and kitchenette. We loved the selection of TV programs, from cartoons to serials. Overall, a comfortable stay but we may consider somewhere nearer to city center next time.

Lovely, well appointed room in great location for the sights of Ghent. Very comfy King size bed and large walk in shower. Cute little downstairs sitting room and some wonderful character to the building. I would stay here again, however there are some areas of improvement that I would suggest for the hosts; cleaning needs some extra attention to detail, when I arrived the floor had not been cleaned and there were dried muddy shoe marks ( this was rectified after notifying the hosts), and there are no spoons provided with the coffee facilities, I am not sure how you are meant to stir your sugar without a spoon (this was not rectified after mentioning it to the hosts)?

The breakfast, the bed, the room, the service, the house, the swimming pool, and the suggestions were all incredible choices we took. For me, the place was a wonderland and the couple was extremely nice. I loved my 4 days there and the quality was so well detailed that I feel that even the most expensive hotel cannot match up to its warm service. I hope that I may someday visit this lodge again.

It's very close to the train station, so it's very convenient. The decoration & renovation is very elegant. The room and toilet are very beautiful & matched the photos on agoda. Breakfast is very nice, eggs are served on order. It would be great if the wifi signal is more stable and if it has elevator ( though DJ helped me to move the luggage to my room) The host is very nice and helpful. Will recommend to friend and come back again :)

Pros: - location is just in heart of Ghent city center, in front Christmas market, Sint Niklaaskerk and shopping center. Can walk to most of the famous places - not too far from tram stop, walk only 5 minutes - MANY restaurants nearby - wifi is good - staffs were all nice - many bars nearby, good for people who after nightlife Cons: - amenities was minimum - fridge was not working, turned out they had not plugged in the cord, which needed to actually pull out the entire fridge first to be able to plug the cord at the back of the cupboard. Also the fridge was not cool enough, we bought ice cream and it was melting overnight. - since it is near the bar etc, on weekend night can be a little bit more noisy since many people would come back to hotel at night, stayed awake until around 1 am due to the noise Overall, we might come back to stay here, specially near Christmas time since it is just in front of the Christmas market

Getting to the hotel, which is more like an appartment suite than anything, was fairly easy by car. Parking is the only issue since it is the city center. The place had a very boutique-like feel and was very modern. The bathroom was large and clean, but did not have an exhaust fan, and the shower curtain was a little to small. Appliances and furniture were all excellent. When other people are staying in the suites next to yours, the walls seem relatively thin and you can hear them.

This B&B is a stylish upper-class home located at 5 minutes from the Ghent city center. It is not easy to find, because it looks like a normal home from the outside. You get the feeling you live there rather than being a tourist. The room was large and well-equipped and had a medieval touch with knight in armor and some theme paintings. Beds were comfortable, there was a seating area with tv, a shower in the room and a separate toilet. Wifi was fast and free. Before climbing the stairs at the central hall you needed to take off your shoes. A car parking was also included. The breakfast was in the living room on the ground floor and was stylish. I enjoyed the experience, but it may not be everyone's cup of tea.

The stay was nice and comfortable overall. The apartment was spacious and the lighting made the experience better and made for a happier feel. The breakfast was excellent and the area was quiet, yet right in the center of the city. That said, I wish the cost were more transparent. It wasn't until checkout that I was aware there was city tax excluded from the price and parking.

We stayed at the Sandton Grand Hotel Reylof on a Saturday, driving to Ghent from London. I chose the Hotel based on the fact it is recommended as the 'best' Hotel in Ghent according to Agoda and Trip Advisor reviews. The price was ok and we chose the Hotel due to parking, but the Hotel does not have parking, instead they have a multi-storey Car Park around the corner. This Car Park costs 11 Euros per 24h Stay, however if you use the Car Park as a Hotel Guest they charge 21 Euros to your room and provide you with a code to exit the Car Park, we did this and the code did not work, the attendant for the car Park helped us and informed us that the code means nothing to him and we had to pay 11 Euros to leave the Car Park, so if you stay at this hotel, just park first and then check in to save 10 Euros. The pictures you see of the Hotel are taken from the gardens at the back, so it does not look like this from the front, however it is as nice as this picture inside, high ceilings, sweeping staircases and great art on the walls! The room was lovely and we were upgraded to a suite, with a living room, kitchen and balcony. All new appliances and quality fittings. The staff were ok, bordering on brusque, I think this is indicative of the Country and maybe not the hotel, but the check-in is late (3pm) so we had to leave our bags at reception on arrival, and things are not explained as well as can be regarding this, parking, etc. Waiting staff are also quite efficient and cold, again I'm not sure if we can say this is the service quality of the Hotel or the Country, as we experienced this in the restaurants too. Overall it's a nice Hotel, located a short walk from the main Historical Centre, with lovely building, interiors, nice tastefully decorated rooms & average staff...

A fascinating conversion from a grand old post office, the hotel part wraps around the outside of a nicely done shopping area. The hotel is, consequently, an unusual shape and the standard rooms are small. If you don’t like dark, cosy rooms with the views from the windows hidden behind stone tracery, then this place isn’t for you. But if you can think of it as a place to hunker down in, with the most breautiful bar/breakfast room, filled with antique and vintage treasures and pictures, in which to sit, you’ll love it. It’s right on the river in probably the best location of any hotel in Ghent. The staff couldn’t have been more friendly or helpful. And, because it’s newly converted, everything is spotlessly clean, whilst looking charmingly aged thanks to clever design. There is a circular honesty bar in one of the towers, in which you could sit undisturbed reading a book. They don’t serve lunch or dinner, though there is a short light bar/room service menu.

Location of the hotel is just so convenient you will find yourself hopping in and out during the day (for toilets especially!)... in fact, during our walking tour, we actually walked past the hotel twice! That just tells you how conveniently located it is. Don't worry about no breakfast... there are so many options around the area you'll be spoilt for choice. Don't stay anywhere else while in Ghent, especially if it's a short 2-night stay like ours.

Lord of Gent apartment surprised me in a very pleasant way from the very beginning. The apartment is located in the hearth of Gent so you can easily go for a walk or you can take public transportation from the front of the building. In the neighborhood are a lot of shops and many restaurants where you can taste the wonderful taste of many Belgian courses and of course the real taste of beer ;). The location itself is absolutely great and the host was friendly and ready all the time to help in case of questions. The check-in was easy and we even received some traditional candies as a welcome gift (really nice and my daughters enjoyed the taste). The living room is big enough for 6 peoples and the dining place is warm and cozy same as the terrace. The kitchen is fully equipped and you can find an supermarket in the neighborhood if you need to cook something on your own. Shortly: even i try I cannot find a bad thing about this location. Definitely we will come back on summer.
