Where to stay in Galle
Galle hotels & accommodations
we had a 5 night stay at the Amari Galle hotel and it was very good. Clean modern rooms, good food, big pool area and superfriendly staff. the only negative is that you can't walk in to town from there. You have to take a tuk tuk. the hotels cars are very overpriced so don't bother. also if u want transport to airport or some other hotel I recommend you to use a loca...
Stayed one night in this hotel during our short visit to Galle. Hotel accomodation was excellent, staff was wonderful, Good breakfast. Hotel setup for reception is not the ideal, though does not effect any guests. Restaurant facilities was great too . My only comment for this hotel is the room rates are bit higher when compare with similar hotels in asian reigon. Somet...
You bare feet sinks into the finely manicured lawn, the fine sands blow on to your face as the tropical wind blows in from the sea, the stray puppy comes to you for a peck as you lie down on the beach chair....this is how you get used to the serenity and tranquility that Arabella offers. A finely run boutique resort neatly tucked away from the hustle and bustle of Ga...
We stayed in this hotel for the first 3 nights of our 2 week vacation in Sri Lanka. What a great introduction to the friendliness of Sri Lankans and some of the fantastic food of Sri Lanka. The hotel is located right within Galle Fort. This means you can walk everywhere on your own within the fort area. This is good when you are just starting your vacation and migh...
A big thank you to the staff at The Galle Fort Hotel. On our second day we had a lovely afternoon by the pool. Late in the afternoon I felt unwell. Long story short I ended up spending the night in hospital on a drip. The doctor diagnosed food poisoning but I think I became extremely dehydrated after a long walk in the crazy heat and being a bit silly drinking 2 c...
Tamarind Hill was outstanding! The rooms and public spaces of this colonial era mansion are decorated in an elegant and unfussy style, with dark wood furnishings and floors, high ceilings, crisp white linens, huge bathrooms, and a private terrace outside the room. The service was attentive, personal, and friendly. While the food was excellent, the Lighthouse Hotel ...
From the moment you enter the gates of the Villa White Queen, you can see the love, thought, and energy that was lavished on this beautiful home. The foyer is decorated with stunning, exotic, tropical flowers, which leads to an amazing koi pond in the middle of the floor. The koi pond is surrounded by columns, and is refreshed with rain water from the open air light-we...
One of the best and most well managed property in our 17 days in Sri Lanka. We loved ur massive suite the huge verandah that looked out into the lagoon and the food is simply divine! It's a pity that more people don't eat at the restaurant - we ate in twice and the meal has been one of the best we had in Sri Lanka! We also liked that there were boardgames to keep the k...
Fort Bliss is a quiet villa that is just a stone throw from the Galle Lighthouse. We are pleasantly surprised how quiet it is although it is near to a popular attraction, and yet it is so convenient. You can easily access the major attractions in Galle Fort, the restaurants and the shopping district. The villa just has 4 rooms, but the room is really cozy and is full...
Initially the address that we were given was wrong, the main entrance is Rampart Street not lighthouse street, but that was worked out. We were shown to a room that didn't have ocean views but again that was resolved instantly. The rooms are beautiful, the bed was so comfortable, the bathroom palatial. This stay was not without hiccups, but this is Sri Lanka, our air c...
The fit out and customer service at this hotel are exceptional. Like a fancy Baliene villa. Best hotel we stayed in Sri Lanka. The hotel is a little further out of town. However, this was not an issue as it's only a 5 min drive and the hotel provides a tuk tuk at a very reasonable price. Would highly recommend staying at this hotel if you are going to Galle.
I live in hotels 300 plus nights a year with work - have done for years so like to break holidays into more than room service and a breakfast bar. Niyagama House delivers luxury with a window into inland rain forest, working tea plantation sri lanka. Great service, leaves areal pampered feel Our escape to sri lanka was a few days in colombo, a night or two on a sout...
High end facilities, very few rooms, right near the main part of Galle Fort. Highly recommended
Just wow. A short tuk tuk ride from galle. This place is paradise and one of the best places we've stayed, staff went out of their way to help us. We felt like royalty. We even had a private dinner in the tree house. The deluxe room had its own plunge pool, stunning terrace balcony (huge) and large bathroom. Worth splashing out a bit more for these apartments. Gorgeous...
Guys, I want back to this wonderfull hotel! We spent there 10 happy days. Rooms are really big, a bed is huge, ocean view from both sides of the room, a big wardrobe which you may close with a key. The hotel is clean and light with no insects. Staff is really so friendly, well english speaking. Especially Sunil - such a nice and funny person, helped us so much. The ...
We had a 3 nights stay at Heritage Villa by Jetwing. They have only 4 rooms there, we family of three stayed in room number 4. It was spacious and with a heritage ambiance, we just loved it. Saman and the cook (I forgot his name) was excellent in service. During Breakfast there were two options either Western or Sri Lankan style. We opted for Sri Lankan style and it w...
Arriving in the middle of the night, I was swiftly greeted and shown to my room. The room and bathroom size was generous, clean and comfortable. The staff very friendly, welcoming and very much full of Sri Lankan hospitality. Inclusive breakfast excellent and the courtyard had a very relaxed vibe where guests ate or whiled away the time relaxing, ready or just chillin...
That's why we chose Villa Amma Erna, for the building and design! -spot on architecture - beautiful beautiful beautiful place down side: -the concrete floor could be mopped more often, at room and common area. - solar powered hot water for shower capacity could be bigger
This boutique hotel the interior is beautiful! All the staff are friendly and always ready to assist you. The hotel is a walkable distance to all the attractions in galle. The staff were so awesome that they prepared a birthday cake for me despite none of us inform them on that! Excellent service! keep up the great work!
The location is excellent and quiet the rooms lovely and the staff do all in their power to be helpful
We had a wonderful experience at the hotel. The location was excellent, very close to all the major attractions in the Galle fort area. The main Galle town area was a 10- 15 min walk. The hotel had a heritage feeling and the rooms and facilities were very well maintained. Staff and restaurant services were great, though the menu items were a bit limited for vegetarians...
Galle is beautiful and well worth a visit in Sri Lanka-this is a great palce to stay. Run by a lovely family who attend to all your needs and the graet location makes it an ideal place to stay. There is water available and they do a small menu if ever hungry and dont want to venture out. I spent my first couple of days in sri Lanka here and felt so safe.
I love Prince of Galle cuz to me it feels more than a hotel, you can see all the details that the owner put in . The decoration is tasteful and thoughtful. peaceful and relaxing environment , 100% clean and neat and safe rooms , and most importantly, lovely and friendly people are there. From the staff to the manager and the owner - Kirk, you are gonna love them as mu...
My husband and I had a wonderful stay at Ceylon Olive. It is ideally located between the historical Galle Fort neighbourhood and the beaches of Unawatuna. We could easily spend the mornings in the beach surfing, make a brief stop at the hotel and head back to the Fort to spend the evenings. The property itself is lovely, nestled amidst beautiful gardens and the rooms a...
You really can't get a better location than Muhsin Villa. Galle Fort has extremely limited hotel options -- if you're looking for a budget accommodation, Muhsin Villa is far & away the best deal. The rooms are basic but functional, and the roof is a great relaxing spot. Really friendly owners who answered all my questions and helped when necessary. Highly recommend Muh...
I had one of the best stay in Sri Lanka, very clean, comfortable; and the staff is friendly, kind and full of smiles. Great breakfast. Everything in the room works great. You can use the pool in the sister hotel at Deco 44.
Parawa House made my one night stay in Galle very enjoyable. Perfectly situated in a small lane, the hotel and the local settings live up to any expectations. (As a bonus, Parawa House is opposite to a popular restaurant serving a delectable tasting plate of curries.) We were greeted with friendly smiles and immediate attentiveness. The owner showed us our rooms, as...
Our stay in the Dutch House was a once in a lifetime experience. We love the homey atmosphere and the cozy living area. Lazing around the house while reading one of the many books available was bliss. Our suite was large with four poster bed, adjoining study and bathroom with freestanding bath. The house is furnished with antique Dutch furnitures, tastefully decorated ...
Very nice and friendly host. Room is clean and room space is large. Quiet environment and delicious food. Perfect place to stay in Galle
I arrived in Sri Lanka for a 5 night stay, first stop galle. I didn't have too high an expectation for the secret palace, however I was completely overwhelmed by how lovely it was. I was warmly greeted by Matthew who called the owners Roshan and Rasika who came also to greet me. They were friendly accomodating and a perfect start to my my travels in Sri Lanka. The room...
Cheap places to stay in Galle
Priyan and his girlfriend were amazing hosts for us. They went above and beyond to provide us with everything we needed. We had a large, comfortable bed and large clean shower to use, at a great price. Their villa is just a short tuk tuk or bus ride from Galle Fort and the town centre. We really appreciated our stay at Villa Vidura and would definitely go back. Thanks!...
Great hostel. Walk into the town along the coast. Tuk tuk costs 200 rupees. Very good wifi. Hot showers. Air con. Would recommend to stay here if I was in Galle
It's a great house with a long history. It's a beautiful garden with kandy dancers, coconut trees, many kinds of plants. There will be many lovely animals to play in the garden, monkeys, peacocks, and some I can't name. There are also groups of fireflies in the garden at night, which is really beautiful. The landlord is also very nice and likes them very much.
When I booked this hotel, there was no service fees included in booking. When we arrived we were given a nice cold drink of juice... And asked to pay the booking price plus a 10% service charge. After we both talked to booking.com, whom Agoda booked this place through, the host woman I mostly dealt with kindly 'waived' the service charge. When I bought water from he...
nice place / homestay in galle . but few toilets. still arrangements are going on. the Chinese family is welcoming.
Richmond villa is about 2 km from Galle Fort. We had a big room, very clean and in good condition. The host and the staff is very helpful and nice. I would definitely stay there again.
Near by beach and city, friendly staffs, good price, happy dog I love it everything Thank you see ya!!!
Breakfast is amazing (although not included in the price - but definitely worth it)! It's a bit of a walk from the train station or to Galle Fort along a super busy road - but it is possible to take a but most of the way. The rooms are quite hot and the beds wary in quality....but it is a nice and safe place to stay and the owners are super friendly.
Beautiful house, set a little out of Galle. Only 200m from the main road so easy to access property by bus and easy to get bus into town (10mins and only around 12lkr). Breakfast was huge and delicious! There's options for lunch and dinner at the house but also a couple of places nearby if you'd rather not eat in town. Owners were lovely.
Walking distance in Galle but you can go bus bus. There is a bus stop just in front of this hostel. The dorm room is very cheap.
I stayed for 2 nights as the location was pretty handy to get to other places and the staff were very friendly. However, the bathroom wasn't cleaned and there was no toilet paper for most of my stay. Also it was explained that the A.C. is only on at night which is completely cool, but the staff have control over the remote control... so the first night it wasn't swit...
this is our best stay during our trip in Sri Lanka. the hotel is the old city of Galle, which makes easier for touring the old fort. our room is spacious and has a nice balcony. the front desk Paradeep(i think so) is really a nice guy, very helpful and friendly. highly recommended!!
Galle was our last stage of the journey through Sri Lanka. We`ve stayed just one night. The staff was really helpful. We came in the middle of storm in the evening, thus we`d decided to stay in. We were offered a kettle to prepare tea, and because of a small surprise in the room immediately we were transferred to an upgraded room. The room and toilet were squeaky clean...
The room is so new and clean, but haven't hot water for shower… The beds are good and comfortable. The hostess is very kind and gave us many advices. You can go to Galle Fort by tuktuk or bus. Hostess can call the tuktuk for u which maybe cheaper than yourself call one.
by far, the best place to stay in galle is outside the fort, and that place is the sanras holiday home. rooms are spotlessly clean, so very tastefully decorated and completely comfortable. sanras is just a couple of hundred metres past (wast) of the very upscale lighthouse hotel, which has public beach access and boasts the most beautiful beach in galle. the best par...
The place is a bit far from the Galle Fort, but is well reachable with tuk tuk or own transport. All rooms are well taken care of by Nanusha, the lady who owns the house. She always tries her best to make sure all her guests are fully satisfied in all aspects. Upon arrival, she served us black tea, we chatted for quite some time. So a good rapport was quickly built up...
Excellent value for money - and very conveniently located in Galle Fort. Rooms are basic and shabby - but adequate. Good breakfast. However I would rate it at 7.5
A bit far from anything in the city, but other than that great value. My room had a kitchen and a bathroom that wasn't advertised. Very comfortable, the owner is very friendly and helpful.
The family really makes you feel at home and is very helpful with advice regarding anything local or will even arrange trips upon request. Rooms are large, well maintained and clean, although some do have shared baths. WiFi is strong throughout the house. Dinner and breakfast are optional so remember to order ahead of time; they are home cooked by the family, very tast...
anne, the owner very warm and friendly person, she makes this place very special. clean rooms, good breakfast, evening tea, you feel like at home. it's peaceful area, with a good connection to galle. i strongly recommend it.
We booked the room online during our trip and chose the villa because we didn't find anything in popular Hikkaduwa. Upon arrival we were very positively surprised by the exceptionally high standards in this beatiful villa; it had just opened 10 days ago as a local family business; it truly measures up to all western standards; no costs were shunned in building this exc...
We loved our short stay in Galle Rest Home. Hosting family is really welcoming and helpful. The room is as described. Breakfast is tasty, with fruits from own garden. Galle Fort can be reached in 10 minutes by car.
These beautiful beach cabanas have been built with love - cosy and clean huts with more space than other cabanas we saw. The view looks straight over the beautiful stretch of beach which was really quiet and peaceful. The location is a little outside of Galle Fort (about 10 min drive) however it was nice to be away from the really touristy areas and beaches. What reall...
the people of the hotel was very kind to us.we need a connection at a computer wherease we didn't have one. they propose to us a computer of them to get connected. the fact is: they had another business than hotel:they organized buffet, wedding, etc at the same place. so we weren't their priority. since we arrive, theynever open the restaurant during the night. the ...
Excellent!
We had a good time and we where happy with our stay! If there where something that could be improved it's a new madrass since it was tired. The standard would also improve if they had a washingmachine, though there is a washing service nearby. Everything was very clean, but not very tidy. By the way I think the name is villa vidura.
We arrived here after a very long train journey from Negombo and were instantly greeted by the female owner who filled us in on her background and history of Sri Lanka/ Galle. We pretty much had the apartment to ourselves for two nights as we rented 3 out of the 5 rooms. There isnt much in Galle itself apart from the Fort but this guesthouse is a 5-10 minute walk from ...
Hotel owner have a very cute girl always play with my gf , staff is a gentleman, location is a little far from bus stop and galle fort , but experience is very good.
We were very happy with the room and the locstion. The best part though was the family, who made us feel so welcome, were so willing to help us out and made us feel totally at home. If you arrive at the bus station please be aware it is only rs.200 in a tuk tuk, at the time of writing.plus have the telephone number of the home stay ready as there was confusion about ...

If you want to enjoy Galle but don't want to suffer the noise from the town, in a really beautiful, peaceful and luxuriant place... I definitely recommend you to stay at Ginganga Lodge for a few nights (the place is only a few minutes drive by tuk tuk from Galle Fort). The staff is really really (did I say REALLY?) friendly and helpful, especially the owner Indika. ...

This hotel is tucked away on a small hill just off the main beach road in the center of galle. Galle cbd itself has little to offer tourists but it is right close to the bus station and historic Galle fort area, full of great restaurants and boutique shopping. The hotel is emaculate, offers tasty breakfast, enormous clean modern rooms and even offer free bikes which w...
It was great. Kingfisher using the pool to cool off, howler monkey visiting the garden making a racket, pool lovely and just the right temperature and breakfast just delicious. Our host organised another tuktuk and we set off with him and his friend for the day. They suggested places and took us where we wanted to go and when it was time to leave he organised a van for...
Extremley well designed. Rooms are small and bathrooms even smaller BUT so well thought out, you felt like you had a lot more space than you actually did. Roof top bar and restarunt is superb for an almost 260 degree view of the ares, best location in Galle for a view and cooling breeze. Service was so professional as was everything about this hotel. Everything so well...
I do not have enough words for how amazing this villa is. The interior design was tasteful and the staff were available 24/7. We only had a group of 3 (1 couple). Mark, the property manager, came and visited and offered us some advice on what to do and where to eat which we found very helpful. I would recommend to anyone that is looking at staying a couple of nights i...
Best service and hospitality we received in 10 days in Sri Lanka. Modern architectural design, but not terribly well executed from a user perspective. However, the host, family and staff make up for it well beyond. The wifi didn't work while we were there, but he helped us with hot-spotting and we only stayed 1 day so it probably would have been fixed.
let's start with all the positives. *the location was fantastic and lots of shops within walking distance. *the staff were really helpful and lovely *The facilities in the apartment were great. you have a cooking hob, fridge, kettle washing machine and A/C in bedroom *Bedroom was well furnished and lovely attention to detail. *Wi-Fi was stable which is rare compare...
We have a wonderful stay at Villa Ayura . The dinner is delicious and also the breakfast. People are kind and keep smile all the time. The location is also good, near the seashore ,easy to see the sunset and sunrise.

The hotel is right in the middle of Galle, you can go anywhere in the Galle fort within 10 minutes. Very friendly staff almost satisfy any requirements. They have a decent restaurant on the top floor of the main building with a roof terrace. The tuna was very tasty and reasonably priced. The buffet ok but nothing special. Good, clean place for business travel
Splendid service in a stunningly-restored building in the heart of Galle Fort. We were only able to stay one night but it was a brilliant experience. We were first given the Prefect’s Room overlooking the pool, but when the aircon broke and the maintenance team couldn’t fix it immediately we were whisked away with profuse apologies to the gorgeous, light-filled Headm...
My fourth visit to the Closenberg Hotel and I can't wait to get back there again in the future. Hotel is a little tired as are many of the hotels in Galle of its age and era. That is part of its charm. The best thing about the hotel is the staff and service. Nothing is too much trouble and everything is arranged with care and enthusiasm. The location and outlook are ...
The Sun House Hotel in Galle has got to be one of the best kept secrets in Sri Lanka. We stayed in the Cinnamon Suite which fully lived up to its reputation as one of the nicest hotel rooms in the world. Without exception, the staff were fantastic, each making considerable effort to ensure our stay was a comfortable as possible. The food was exceptional, so we ended up...
A delightful, spacious and atmospheric villa that creates the feeling of your own second home - fully staffed, including with chef.
The building, the interior design, the location - it doesn't get better than no 48. Even the name of this place works: there is no sign or anything out front, it's just the street number and a lovely door. It is like having your own villa in the middle of Fort Galle. There were other couples staying at the place - maybe two - but we almost never saw them. Perfect ...

Me and my wife, wanted to enjoy a short vacation in our own privacy. And we couldnt have gone a better option than Le grand. It's a beautiful town. When I stay there with my boyfriend ,we both forgotten the time .It's a good place for seeing sunrise ,it's also a good place to hanging aound.
We enjoyed going to church in Galle. Pity foreigner has decided to put up a bungalow infront of the church and block the beautiful view of the sea from the church.
Galle is an interesting place. The Galle fort is rich in history and visitors can see the fishermen on stilts along the beach at Galle.
The old part Fort has some nice looking buildings and qaint streets but it is all crammed with tourists, especially around sun set when everybode gathers in one particular place.
The Galle Fort is an old city next to the Indian Ocean. People living here can enjoy listening the sound of the Ocean overnight and the good seneary in the morning.
Galle is historic and can give you nostalgic feelings. Can stay here to relax in the fort for a few days.
This is a beautiful town. The Galle Fort and lighthouse are fantastic. There is a dutch church and library.
We didn't actually stay in Galle but went a few times for the sights, restaurants & to wander around Galle Fort which is a very tourist friendly area.
Dont try to do things too early on a weekend - Everything happens later in the day - Appears to be mainly Muslim now and it is Ramadan time so after sunset its tremendous = prior to that, one has to search to find interesting things to do.
Careful of snorkeling since water can be murky. Diving boats were basic and outings were without food and beverage.
Galle was a pleasant surprise. I had expected a beach town but it is an old historic fort town. Beautiful views.
Small city, foreigner welcome area, many galleries and shops. It is the world heritage site, well reservation.
Galle is a nice city and the people are very friendly. Would absolutly recommend people going to Galle.
beautiful architecture with dutch type design, happeninh crowd and some awesome cafes in galle fort make is a must see place.
Lovely Place to visit and love the fort. Could walk around there for hours and love the shopping there.
