Booked a king bedroom but was assigned a standard bedroom. The hotel charged up front like a budget accommodation. All other things are just ok, nothing is outstanding. I would give it a 3-star, not 4 as advertised. Hopefully, I won't be staying here again.
The Guesthouse was a good choice. Depending on your travel plans I would consider to skip Durban as it has not much to offer as a city.

The visit to Essenwood House was much too brief! Paddy and John are fantastic, really fantastic hosts and they ensure that the establishment provides a good experience. I would recommend Essenwood House highly and I have already moved it to the top of my list of establishments in Durban.

Timothy was helpful but place is dilapidated and I as a South African did not feel safe, I had to complaun abiut the maindoor not being locked at night when there is a known notorious abandoned house across the road.

Really great location, especially for younger visitors to Durban, for easy walking access to restaurants and bars all around. I felt fine walking until late because there were so many other people out and about. The unofficial parking guards may tail you a bit, thinking you are going to your car when you walk back to the hotel, but they're just looking for their tips...

Vincent is such an able and supportive host and he rallies his team magnificently. I've stayed in many BnB's in Durban and this one has the best breakfast by far. The location is in a quiet neighborhood yet close to whatever you would need in walking distance. A short taxi ride will take you almost anywhere in Durban. The hosts are friendly and helpful. This is a place with many repeat clients of which i will become another.

Found it a bit too small for 2 young kids but adequate given we only stayed 2 nights. Only problem was that an entire panel of the shower door was missing - would have rated higher if not for this.
The All Seasons is a cosy B&B just upon the beach in the Bluff district of Durban. Far away from the bustle of Durban but just a 10minute car journey into central Durban. Clean and tidy accommodation at affordable rates.

The staff was some of the best i have experienced in south africa. From the desk staff to cleaning staff to management they were superb. The dinner was excellent showcasing great durban cuisine and the breakfast and high tea were amazing. The views from the room were phenomenal and the access to the beach was great

The stay at Suncoast Durban was marvelous. I had a wonderful time at the suncoast hotel with the beach and the casino. The rooms and staff were clean and very cordial. The food was very delicious and cooked as per the requirements.

The value cannot be beat. The breakfast was incredible each day. The staff was always ready and able to help, whatever your need. A quick walk to the best restaurants in the area or the beach. I will never stay anywhere else when visiting Durban. We are now lifelong guests of Sandals.
There are two presidential suite rooms. We stayed at room 7 which has a great view and the room has air conditioning. The other room does not have. The breakfast was cooked for the presidential guests in the special kitchen/dining area.

I am a Cape Tonian & currently staying in Gauteng, i must admit for the short periods of time i have been in Durban, i considered relocating there.
Historical buildings are not well kept, the hotels and apartments around South beach all look dilapidated.
Durban is good for all ages and cultures. There are a lot of places to go or just to relax at the beach.
City with beautiful beaches, but centre of town is a mess and very dangerous with lots op young children just wlking around and doimg nothing.

Visit Ushaka Marine world when in Durban. Beaches are lovely with hot Indian Ocean water and free from sharks and other dangerous marine creatures.
