A haven of quiet & good service in central Beijing”

      1. Centrally located, only 5 minutes walk from Denshikou station and 10 minutes walk to Wangfujing, 20 min walk Forbidden city. 2. Clean, quiet, and impeccable service. 3. Great Breakfast

From beginning to end they were great, it's a small boutique hotel, so it was such a relief after a series of bad Chinese hotels to get this lovely haven of quiet in the middle traditional Hutong. You have a great modern hotel with all the quaint Chinese flair. It's centrally located, only 5 minutes walk from Dengshikou station (this is the closest) and about 10 minutes from Dongsi station. Within a 20 minutes walk radius you have the Wangfujing shopping district, where the street food stalls are the cleanest and most interesting, Tienanmen square and the Forbidden city. The staff were definitely the highlight of our China trip. They went out of their way to provide good service. We arrived early after a long overnight train ride, before check in time, but they were more than happy to provide us free breakfast and to store our luggage, plus some restuarant recommendations. The breakfast is simple, with a limited menu, but made fresh and with love everyday. The room was clean and the bed was the first soft bed we got in China. The walls are a little thin but most of the occupants of the hotel seem to be polite enough to keep their voices down. The bathroom has a rain shower, and I really enjoyed the organic amenities. The hotel also has a nice roofside courtyard to relax in, during the day or night, the hotel itself has drinks downstairs for the low low price of 15 rmb per drink. At the head of the Street to get to the hotel there is also great and delicious skewers on sale for 1 rmb each available at all times of the day/night. A big shout out of thanks to the staff who helped us out during our flights crisis. We managed to miss our flights in the middle of the night, and they were so helpful in contacting the airlines for us and sorting out new flights for us. The staff also helped us to print out maps and give advice on Beijing Transport. Fantastic hotel, I would recommend any of my friends here.

Modern courtyard hotel in central Beijing”

Hotel architecture & design, quiet surroundings, central location

Very new hotel located in a "Hutong", a small street of Beijing. Great if you want to discover Beijing's culture, local food.. It is a recently renovated courtyard house, which is a traditional Chinese house. It has a small cute rooftop on top of the reception building, giving you a view over the neighborhood. Charming. 5 minutes walk to Dongsi subway station, quite close to Forbidden city as well. The staff is very attentive, they all have a very good level of English (which is not that common in Beijing, unlike we thought). Ask them to recommend you a local restaurant, massage place or a city tour. The rooms are very clean, linen and towels brand new. Nice modern bathroom. We spent 4 days in Beijing and were happy to find this little hotel. We ordered the smallest room, which was sufficient, however some might prefer the larger rooms.

This is by far one of the best hotel that I have stayed throughout my stay in China. Room was clean and decent. Beds was comfy and basic toiletries were provided. Staff was exceptionally hospitable and caring, went all out to ensure that we had a pleasant stay. Apart from the commendable service, hotel staff has good command in English so there wasn't any communication barrier. Hot tea was offered upon arrival.  The hotel is situated in the heart of Beijing and easy to locate. Directions to the hotel are clearly stated on the hotel website. 6 minuted walk to the nearest subway station and a mere 15 minutes walk to the famous Wangfujing shopping district. The set breakfast was decent. Guests are able to choose between western or oriental.  Overall, it was a pleasant stay at this hotel and I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Beijing.  Keep up the good work guys! :)

an oasis in the middle of hectic, crazy Beijing. ”

the stunningly simple, calm archeticural design/the amazing, attentive staff that always went out of their way to help in any way/great location in a hutong

I fell in love with The Hulu as soon as I approached its magnificant beautiful wooden front door with the beautiful hand crafted black round metal door opener. And then I walked in to immediately find an oasis. Every single design aspect in this hotel was thoughtfully, artistically and humbly considered. I stayed in the superior queen room which I loved. The bathroom was just perfect. Aside from its design, it had a great shower with a window that was large but private enough that allowed you to feel as though you were showering outside. Brillant design! Liked also the tv with english downloads. Loved the rooftop garden that is used for breakfast and/or relaxing with a drink. The staff were AMAZING. They just love working at the Hulu and were always always eager to help with all questions-whether it was around sights to see, tips on getting about the city, ordering taxi's or with any minor problems with my room. It rained lightly the day I arrived and as I left the hotel one of the staff ran after me to ask if I needed an umbrella!! I can without a doubt say that it was The Hulu that made my stay in Beijing even more memorable than the city itself! P.S. The Hulu is tricky for taxi's to find. If they can't find it, let them leave you off at the entrance to the hutong and just walk up the street for about 5 minutes and you will come across its' beautiful door and understated artistic metal sign with The Hulu name on it.

      Great hospitality ”

The Hulu team took good care of us during our stay. They were fast and efficient in answering our questions, and helped us to buy tickets online so we can skip the queue at tourist attractions. Even when we were out of the hotel, they replied us promptly when we asked for recommendations and directions through WeChat. As a hospitality professional myself, I really appreciated their service and care the team have given us. For future travellers, do note that the location on Google maps is wrong and follow the one on Baidu instead. Thank you Hulu Courtyard Team!

Experience the hutong as a respite from the city”

Secure entry, excellent, friendly service and very clean!

My mother and I stayed for one night during our trip to Beijing. We took a 10 minute pedicab ride from the Forbidden City to the Hulu which was very pleasant. The dining choices near the hotel are a bit limited unless you walk about 15 minutes to the aPM mall area on Wangfudajie. The rooms are very comfortable with a couch, TV, water heaters and excellent central heating. The facilities are very clean

      Fabulous find in Beijing”

Location. Friendly and helpful staff. Tasteful interiors.

We were really pleasantly surprised by the Hulu. Did not what to expect when we booked the trip. First of all, the location was amazing. Close to the downtown area. Easy access to wonderful restaurants, sightseeing, transit, and shopping. The staff, Orange and Alex were so helpful and attentive. Really give personal attention to the guests. They helped us organize our sightseeing trips. Gave advise on how to get around the city etc. Perfect English and great communication skills. The hotel is 9 rooms and is very intimate and homely. They serve a fantastic breakfast which comprises of both Western as well as Chinese dumplings etc. Rooms are beautifully designed. Elegant and very Zen-like. Would recommend this hotel to all our friends who are travelling to Beijing.

      Superb hotel !!”

      Staff, location and ambience

Totally blown off the moment I entered the hotel. An ancient courtyard style building with a modern chic interior. Located in a quiet hutong - a real tranquil retreat. Walking distance to 2 train station. Great Breakfast, great room. The chairs and table are provided outside of your room so you are able to enjoy the Beijing night sky. Staff are very super friendly and attentive. Gotten a slight flu due to the weather and the staff immediately noticed that, even offered me ginger tea to relieve the flu. A few defects with the showering facilities and the staff managed to get it fix by the time I returned. They always very approachable and willing to assist you - making your stay there a truly enjoyable one. Definitely will return if I am back in Beijing. Crossing my fingers and hoping that I will be able to get a room as they are filling up fast.

      Great hotel”

This is a very nice hotel, great atmosphere and friendly staff. The location is very good near the forbidden city and many restaurants and shops, while at the same time maintaining an antique Beijing feel of the Hutongs. We had a wonderful time!

First Time In Beijing GO TO HULU HOTEL!”

It was our first time going to China and the staff at Hulu Hotel made both me and my group feel very accomdated. Even the location at first is confusing and might look sketch; you can’t judge a book by its cover. The hutong and bedroom was beautiful on the inside! They would help us with getting our way around the city, translating pick up locations for our Didi ( Chinese Uber/ Lyft), and also for going on adventures to the great wall ( HIGHLY recommend Jianshanling). The staff truly is some of the sweetest people in Beijing and really made our stay unforgettable!

      Superb experience”

      Staff performance, location and room

I arrived late due to flight delays and lost luggage and was running late for meeting my son. Had no money or tube card but the staff were amazing. Loaded me some cash and gave me a tube card which another guest had left and which had a bit of money on it. I managed to negotiate the tube and made it only 5 minutes late. The hotel was in a great location, tucked away up a side street on the edge of a hutong. Rooms were exquisite and in a traditional style. I've stayed at major hotels all over the world up to 5 stars and I can quite honestly say that this was one of the best short stays I've had. It's not got any facilities other than a small bar and breakfast area, but you've got all of Beijing on your doorstep. The staff, as I've said, couldn't be better. Incredibly friendly, great English and just want you to enjoy your experience. The owner has made a great job of the design and the location, although central, was incredibly quiet. Can't recommend it more!!! Enjoy your stay

      Location, Atmosphere and staff

I had a fantastic stay at the Hulu Hotel. The staff couldn't be more accommodating, helpful and friendly. The location is good with local shops, food and bars all very close and the Forbidden City is within walking distance. The rooms are clean, fresh and bright. We were even presented with a little ornament as a gift when we left... just awesome!

      Will definitely return”

The breakfast was fantastic, it felt like a bed-and-breakfast with homemade food; The staff were attentive and super helpful; It's small and cozy

This place definitely exceeded my expectations; I was totally thinking that this would be a mediocre place at best, but based on the reviews I was still tempted to check it out and stay here. It wasn't too terribly hard to find and I was promptly checked in. The bathroom had heated floors - or so it seemed - and the bed was comfortable. One thing I would point out for improvement is to add a bit more lighting to the rooms. I only had three bulbs and they were somewhat dim. It made things difficult to see in the evenings. The breakfast was very good and I had some of the best French Toast I've ever tasted! Overall a very wonderful stay and wish I could come back to Beijing often enough to enjoy this place again.

      Hidden treasure”

Rare hide away, Awesome staff, Beautiful

It was difficult to find the first time, but very worth the search. If you are staying in Beijing, I suspect you would be very happy to stay here. I won't spoil it by describing it to you. I've seen reviews mention that the walls are very thin as the one down side, however I have not experienced this. So either they have fixed the issue or we have very quiet neighbours.

      Very good hotel, few limitations”

      Silence, style, staff

Hulu hotel is well decorated, well managed with very professional and very friendly staff, very clean, in the middle of a hutong far from main avenues and thus really calm. Simple and very enjoyable, an experience to try. Few limitations: - Rooms with minimum goodies, no bath robe, no additional quilt, no free coffee or tea, no minibar. - For people who wants to watch TV, there is no signal (international selection of movies and TV shows is great though). - Wifi is not always properly working. - Hot water is sometimes limited - really unconfortable during a bath at night. - Breakfast menu is quite limited - but there is no time limit which is reaaaaally good. - Walls are quite thin and you may share more than you want with your neighbours. I list these points so that you have more info than the other comments I read before my stay there, it was still a very good time and very enjoyable, I advise you to try Hulu Hotel knowing that the rating of "number 2" in Beijing is a little optimistic.

Comfortable and a 5-7 minute walk to the nearest subway station (Dongsi Station)”

Had a pretty comfortable 5-night stay in December 2018 with my parents. The staff were great— warm and hospitable, replied promptly to Wechat messages sent from outside when I couldn't locate a restaurant one of them recommended (found the restaurant in the end thanks to their help!), and really helped make the stay an enjoyable one. Location-wise— it's a 5-7 minute walk from the nearest train station (Dongsi station), which is close to a supermarket and a McDonald's. The interior design of my room and courtyard hotel is lovely as well, cosy and old-school with modern touches. While there isn't a heater (though the floor is heated!), the room is relatively well-insulated and we felt quite comfortable even amid the -11 degree winter weather of Beijing. Would definitely recommend this hotel!

I am living as an expat. in China, but a little outside Beijing. The Hulu Hotel is my 1st choice for being right in the center of the capital, in a beautiful, small hotel with lots of real Chinese life around it. Great place to stay!

      Charming authentic experience”

We were so happy with Hotel Hulu. The best part of the experience was the staff. Everyone was so friendly, spoke excellent English, and went above and beyond to make our stay comfortable and enriching. The location is great and our room was clean, updated, safe, and comfortable. The room was small (expected) but there were little touches that made the experience more than we were expecting. Coming back to our hutong after heavy days of travel felt like home. We can’t thank you enough. Highly recommend!
