I stayed in the Ban Thai Guesthouse for one night in order to see the historical site of old Sukhothai. As a solo backpacker traveling on a budget, this was a nice place to stay for the money. I stayed in a single room with fan, and shared the bathroom. When I first arrived the room felt hot, but at night it cooled down to a comfortable level with the fan. The bedding was clean, and they also provided a towel for you. There were three bathrooms and I never had a problem sharing with others. There was always a stall available when I wanted. The showers were hot and clean. The staff were friendly and helpful, and the location was ideal for catching a tuk tuk or pickup truck to the old city. The pickup points were only a short walk down the road. It isn't a 5 star hotel, but all in all for what it is, I liked it.

Nice little place with heartwarming staff”

My sister and I stayed at the Ban Thai for two nights. First, we were a bit disappointed, because we were hoping to get a bungalow, but we were given a room in the building behind the kitchen (we came on the weekend before Loi Kratong, so it was crowded). Our room was small and very simple with an even smaller bathroom, but it was clean and there were no moskitos. The room was lacking opportunities to hang your clothes. We had no breakfast included, but it can be purchased for an acceptable price. The guesthouse offers a variety of Thai and also Western dishes for a good price, the fruitshakes are excellent and very cheap. Food is great, too. The old lady who is cooking is a gem, she hardly speaks any English but she is so nice and makes you feel like you stay with your own granny. Good WiFi, help with day-tours, buses and other information. The place is a bit small and lacks a garden or something like that, but it has a nice dining-area with TV to hang around and a small pond. You can rent motorcycles, too. Overall a great place in a good location ( a few meters away from New-Sukhothai main street and the bus stop to Old-Sukhothai). Highly recommended!

Excellent value for money, clean & amazing staff!”

Ban Thai is an excellent place to stay and has made our stay in Sukhothai unforgettable. It's a great value for money, very clean bungallows. Family run & the people/staff were so lovely & helpful. The lady cooked us our favourite Thai dish that wasn't on their menu and it was so delicious. The house is located in a quiet place but in a short walking distance to 7/11, other restaurants and a bus stop where you catch the bus to go to the old city. I would definitely stay there again!

One of best guesthouses in Thailand”

It was very pleasant stay. I arrived from Udon Thani after a 10-hour trip so I was s tired when I arrived and decided to just eat dinner at Ban Thai. And I wasn't disappointed at all: it was not too pricey, delicious and well presented. I like the food there! The staff (I suppose she's the owner) was also very nice and accommodating, I felt at home. :) The toilet is clean and room is spacious of 1 person, although I hope they put a thicker curtain so people from restaurant can't see the person in the room. Will stay here again if I go back to Sukhothai!

Cute little Guesthouse”

Absolutely loved Ban Thai. The bungalows are really cute. You feel like you are very far from town, in a nice quiet area, however the main road and bus stop to the old town are a very short walk away. The guesthouse staff were excellent. Tried every option to get us on a very busy bus to Chiang Mai, getting us two seats with 20 minutes to spare. All the time with a smile on their face. Will be back if we ever return to Sukhothai.

I had a wonderful time at Ban Thai. The woman I talked to all the time at the front desk was great, she set up a bike tour for me, and had answers to all my questions already set out in binders to look at. I splurged on a private room with ac and my own bathroom. The room was comfy and clean and the guest house was close to everything I needed in new Sukhothai. I extended my stay and would certainly go back.

Clean very basic cabin, lovely hosts, great food.”

We enjoyed our 3 nights very much. The host family and chef made us very welcome and the food is seriously good and as cheap as anything else in Sukhothai. The small cabin room was a little under furnished with only one bedside table and nothing else to place things on or in so a second table would have been useful but we made do. This is truly a budget guesthouse so bring your own soap and toilet paper. We are travelling on a shoestring and we chose Ban Thai Guesthouse on price and we were not unhappy with our experience, mainly because of the lovely host family and pretty tropical garden setting.

Great food and lovely staff.”

The room was nicely varnished & clean but a little small. The bathroom was clean enough and there was hot water. The thing that made this guesthouse was the wonderful staff who showed us how to make the most of our visit to Sukhothai. They also recommended a bike hire place which gave us a discount. The food was wonderful and the chef was particularly accommodating to vegetarians. The location was good, on a side alley so it was quite quiet but 5minutes walk from the main road to get the "bus" to Sukhothai historical park.

Fantastic stay with lovely staff”

Ban Thai is a must stay for any budget-conscious traveller. Rooms are basic, but very clean. Shared bathrooms are very clean as well. The staff are amazing! Very helpful and spoke good English. Help us get the bus to Kanchanaburi and told us the places to eat and see (recommended a great Chinese festival to see while we were there). Ask for the guesthouse tuk tuk driver to take you to the old city - very cheap! Hotel restaurant was amazing. Big portion sizes and very affordable prices! Location is very central for the new town and is about 30 mins tuk tuk ride to the old city. Great place for people on a budget!

Stay here in Sukhothai!”

We loved this place. It was conveniently located just off one of the main drags and a short walk to the local bus to Old City Sukhothai as well as several restaurants. The food at the guesthouse was good and the helpings plentiful. Our bungalow was adorable, had a great shower not located directly over the toilet (bonus!) and a very comfortable bed. Cute garden area and koi pond and the location is quiet (except for the twilight exercise across the river which is honestly just fun to watch). The wifi worked very well. The family that runs it is really nice especially the older woman in charge of the restaurant and check ins. She went out of her way for us several times including giving me some salve to help my leg full of fire ant bites and a little cooler to store some ice in. Would definitely return!

Amazing guesthouse and bungalows”

Most beds in thailand have hard mattresses. At Ban Thai, the beds are really soft! and the whole guesthouse and lobby is charming. there are fountains, with japanese carp swimming in a little pond, and they have very tasty food. And the price is UNBEATABLE! Especially for a bungalow! And the people are really nice and welcoming. Best sleep i had in Thailand so far! I am so glad i chose Ban Thai!

Friendly, comfortable, location”

I wish that I could rate Ban Thai Guesthouse a 10. The only reason that I cannot is that the room is cozy (small). The bed had a real mattress, a novelty for Thailand. Bert and the staff are great. (If you go, try the bicycle historic ride with with Mem at 'Cycling Sukgothai'.) Ban Thai has no cook. They have a French trained chef! The food is excellent! We stayed two extra nights and would stay there again.

Ban Thai Guesthouse is very accessible from Sukhothai Bus station. no more than a 10 minute tuk tuk ride, approx 100baht (depending on time of arrival this price may vary) We informed the guesthouse that we would be arriving late due to bus delays and they left our room key at reception for us Moto's and bicycles are options to rent from the guesthouse. I found the price of renting motobikes within the sukhothai area a little more pricey than some areas in Thailand, around 250 baht a day (would recommend if you want to explore a vast area) Roads are straight and well kept within the town centre. Overall a cheap, affordable and pleasant stay.

A great base for your Sukhothai trip”

If you're on a budget in Sukhothai this is a great place to come. The rooms are basic but functional, and oome with all the usual complementary stuff like towels and single serving soaps and shampoos, etc. The rooms and bungalows are surrounded by some well landscaped and decked features, with colourful fish ponds. You are right by the river though, so be sure to grab some mozzy repellant from 7/11 on your way. Ban, the lady that runs the place is a lovely lady, and she'll help you in any way she can. Thoroughly recommended.

Felt at Home in Charming Bungalow”

This air conditioned bungalow was the nicest room we had in Thailand. It was also the least expensive. There is also cheap transportation to the historical side of town on the main road just a short walk outside the hotel grounds. However, if you want to get to/from the airport, the entire city of Sukhothai seems to have colluded to make the price extremely expensive. If you go to Si Satchanalai, hire a driver through the hotel. At the bus terminal, everyone tries to trick you. Unsafe tuck-tucks cost the same as hotel's A/C taxi.

Great Guesthouse! ”

The Ban Thai Guesthouse was great!! The room was large and the beds were comfy and clean. Good breakfast can be ordered and the staff was very friendly and helpful. The grounds were beautiful and well kept, and there were nice place to relax outside. It's far enough away from the main road that it's quiet, but a quick walk to everything you need. Definitely good value for the price!

Good location, basic, but real value for money”

We enjoyed our stay. This guesthouse is very well located (the place where buses leave to old Sukhothai is very close, airport transfer as well, and a most interesting Market), yet green and private. A reasonable restaurant at the spot and a lot of food available at nearby food stalls. The room was small and basic, but clean. It's a family business and the staff is friendly. The only two things we missed were sheets for the blanket (it seems to be common in Thailand to use blankets without a duvet cover or sheet, which can feel weird, even though the blankets are clean and washed every time) and toilet paper (again, none is supplied in many Thai loos, but is replaced with a hand shower), but we managed well and think that the guesthouse meets all basic needs and represents very good value for money. We would go again.

Wonderful cozy bungalow”

I stayed in one of the mini-bungalows with A/C. Be aware that mini means MINI!! The room was tiny, but I loved it. The bed was comfy (by Thai standards) and I felt like I was in a little fairy house. The bathroom was small but clean. I spent most of my time out exploring Sukhothai and the surroundings, so the room didn't need to be very big or have more than a bed. The staff was wonderful. Very sweet, helpful, and knowledgeable. Food was good and there is an awesome pizza joint two doors down. This a calm and friendly place - perfect for a solo traveler!

We had a great stay at Ban Thai Guesthouse. However, when we arrived at 10pm the owner was surprised to see us, he hadn't checked his emails and so did not know we had booked a room. Luckily there was a room available. Also do not leave any food in the room including the bin as we had ants.
