The staff of the ryokan was very friendly and helpful. But it will be great, if they could mention in the email that the ryokan was not that close to the station and it will be recommended to book the hotel free shuttle car in advance, as for the people who never were in Arima Onsen before. The restaurants in Arima Onsen are closed very early, and the most restaurants are fully occupied, it will be recommended to book a table in advance as well. The private onsen of the ryokan was a wonderful and unique experience, everything was well organized. Overall its definitely recommended!

The staff was all very polite. We booked the tatami room, the bedding was a bit hard in comparison to other tatami rooms we booked on the trip. We booked the room with the dinner package, dinner was very good. Best onsen set dinner we had in the whole trip! quality of food was very high. The gold onsen was very good, it healed my damaged, swollen, blistered feet from all the walking! Will definitely go back for the onsen. Make sure you call hotel to pick you up from station cause the walk uphill ( in summer) is a killer!!!

when we first arrived in arima onsen area, this hotel is very distinctive from other buildings around it, very nice appearance. after we found out its story, we were even more excited. it was built more than 800-hundred years ago and its name was given by some famous shogun! the japanese style room is really pretty and comfortable, not mention the 24-hour onsen! people here are really nice and helpful, we wanted to catch the last cable from arima to rokko san, and there wasn't so much time left, the hotel arranged a car to drive us to the cable and we made it on time! really appreciate their help! i would like to come back again and stay a bit longer!

It was a great pleasure to stay at Arima-Onsen Negiya. We spent a night at this hotel during our honeymoon trip to Kansai region and decided to have a relaxing onsen trip at Arima. The hotel prepared a very nice room for me and my wife (with great view and spacious traditional tatami room)and they prepared a little gift for us. The staff were very friendly and attentive to us. Dinner was served in the room and the experience is great. It is not cheap for the stay (inclusive Kaiseki dinner and breakfast for two) but it is definitely worth it. The onsen is also great, especially the outdoor one.

It was a short but fairy hard & hilly walk on the narrow rough road without sidewalks, and also had to walk passed 2 narrow tunnels to reach the resort. Upon arriving we received a warm welcome smiles from all the service staff. We were very impressed with their services and arrangement. Actually they have pick up/drop off services at anytime upon request. We missed it. We were surprised when they arranged 2 lodges for my family of 6 instead of rooms with no additional charge. The lodge was beautiful & elegant surrounded by green & flowers. The lady service manager led us to the lodge and explained the usages and purposes of every tiny things inside the lodge. Unfortunately there was no Wifi, it was rarely a place for guest to relax. They served fine dinner c/w Wagyu beef in a private room at the restaurant by the lodges. Breakfast also served at the same place. The most enjoyable place in the resort was the outdoor Onsen. It was amazing! Arima Hot Spring - It truly was a lovely experience & the highlight of our whole Japan visit.

This hotel was tucked away up in Arima Onsen town and we decided to spend just a night here to recharge our batteries and get some real traditional Japanese hospitality and onsen experiences. We were certainly mot disappointed! The room was spacious and comfortable, the view was a stunning panorama towards Kobe city and the bay and just beneath us was the Japanese garden. The onsens were too luxurious we spent almost the whole time soaking. We returned to find our rooms made up ready for sleep. We slept like babies. We had a young German lady who spoke impeccable English and Japanese help us during our stay. Everyone was helpful but she was especially so. Would recommend to anyone who wants a beautiful memory of Japan.

I am a solo traveller and the hotel offers single room so that I dont need to pay for a room for 2 people but enjoy the onsen. About onsen: the hotel is actually combined with another hotel under same brand (Located on each side of the river) so in total 3 onsen facilities with 2 outdoor onsens which were great. Also you can view the river and sakura from the connecting bridge which was beautiful. About food: the dinner and breakfast are both great. Kobe beef is offered at dinner - this hotel is also on the kobe beef association restaurant guide 2016-2017 so quality is good! About service: shuttle to and from bus station, multi lingual service (Surprisingly Chinese and English all good). Many local people were staying in the resort. Would definitely recommend this to solo and family travellers given the quality of hotel.

Traditional Japanese style room. Despite big bug inside the toilet, staffs were very nice and helpful. One thing to note is that there is another hotel in Arima with a very similar name. location : in a hill and takes 15mins walk from bus station ( if you just stay for one night, suggest to bring slight luggage) Good thing is that they provide pick up on your arrival as well as return at the major stations in Arima . (You need to call them upfront) One rule is that you are not allowed to bring food from outside , if you didn’t preorder their dinner and need to go back to town for dinner , they offer shuttle bus at around 6:45 and 8:45. In general , great experience !

COMMENT - some of room does not have private bathroom , just closet.. So please be careful when you choose the room type. We got that room and we take a bath at shower room inside Kinsen room - we choose this hotel because they have Kinsen ( hot spring bath with golden water ) which is amazing - we get nice breakfast & dinner during our stay - cleanliness for this hotel are outstanding - free flow coffee machine every day ADVICE - for guest room without private bathroom, please show detail in subject of room type for example: "Twin Room WITHOUT private bathroom" so guest can consider to book that room or choose another room with private bathroom - Please provide longer time pick-up service. This hotel only provide pick-up time until 17.30 pm only. Overall we satisfied to stay in this hotel, thq Arimakaido Yuuwa

Perfect for travelers who prefer peace and quiet to the larger onsen resorts. What I like most about this onsen was it had only 8 rooms. Perfect for the quiet and peaceful getaway without the buzz of too many visitors. Evening Kaiseki dinner was beautifully arranged at the sister hotel, while the morning breakfast was equally appealing at the Kotori. Arima has 2 types of Onsens - the gold and silver. It does not have the strong sulphur smell that some of the onsens in Japan might have. Kotori had only the silver pool, but all guests had access to the gold onsen at their sister hotel (just 1 min walk away). For guests who prefer use of their own private onsen, it can be easily arranged at 45-mins block for a minimal fee. The quirky part was each room only had a wash area and no attached toilet, but access to clean and luxurious rooms were just steps away on each floor. Many thumbs up for the Kotori and will be back. One of the best onsens I've stayed in Japan.

Location - the transportation to Arima is quite complicated. Had to make quite a few bus/train transfer to get to Arima. But we're asking for a getaway so... we take it. We called the hotel to pick us up at Arima Onsen (i.e. Hotspring) train station and the shuttle bus was waiting right outside the station. Service - Excellent. They should have a set of protocol on their services and they followed suit. The service make you feel that they are giving their 100% effort to serve you. Facility - Excellent. Public hotspring (separately for male and female) at 9/F and B2. The view at 9/F was spectecular. Can't ask for more when you can soak in comfortable hotspring with spectacular mountain and valley views. Can also use a private hotspring with your family/friends/other half with a reasonable charge. They also had a water spa facility at B2 but we didn't have time to try out. Meals - The Kaiseki dinner and buffet breakfast were excellent. Good food, great relaxation.

Due to booking mistakes made by the hotel, I got upgraded to hotel Arimasanso Gosho Bessho free of charge. The hotel Arimasanso Gosho Bessho is the same group of Hotel Hanakoyado but I pretty believe Gosho Bessho is the highest rank hotels in the group and probably one of the top hotels in Arime. There are just around 10 rooms in Gosho Bessho, with dedicated staffs serving us well. The room is pretty large (over 2000 feet I think) and their breakfast is awesome. Although Gosho Bessho is far away from city center, however we were arranged to take a private car reserved to transfer to/from city center. Really a memorable experience !!

Excellent hotel! The hotel is located slightly away from Arima town centre and is about 15 mins walking distance from the train station, but you can always get the hotel to pick you up. The hotel staff can speak ok-english, so there is no issue in arranging your needs. Staff is friendly and helpful too. The Japanese traditional room is lovely. We had our dinner served in room by a lady who really served us well! The futon (prepared by the lady as well!) is comfortable as well. The hotel offers 3 public onsen with different theme, and all are great! Open-air onsen is a must-try which offers great scenery and experience.

I can't fault this hotel. It may not be as fancy as some but this hotel is a genuine Japanese experience, with a beautiful mineral hot spring right in the hotel. On cold mornings and evenings, it is glorious. I included the Breakfast and Dinner set in my accommodation booking, and the staff and the food were faultless. The language barrier was more than overcome by the willingness of the staff to meet every need that you could hope for.....they were the genuine example of Japanese hospitality and warmth. Genuine tatami Japanese room was relaxing and very clean, with attentive room attendants. Overall value for money, with a genuine Japanese experience that money can't buy. The township of Arima is beautiful, but this hotel is located at the top of the mountain, providing a picturesque view of the town and the surrounding nature. Just wished that I had booked a room on the upper floors (above level 4), so I could have enjoyed the view more. Would go back in a heartbeat......thank you.

We have been staying in more than ten onsen hotels, and we have the most wonderful and happiest experience in this hotel. We enjoyed the peace and quiet we needed, the environment was warm and cozy, the food they served was exceptionally amazing. And of course, compliment definitely should be granted to the excellent service of the staff. We will definitely recommend your hotel to friends and family, and we are sure we will be back on vacation in the near future.

The hotel is very pleasant. Rooms are clean and bright with a kitchen and a separate (sliding doors) sleeping area. (Great if you have small children who go to sleep early)Our room was warm and cozy even though the temperature dropped overnight. A stay at the hotel includes a visit to the Arima Onsen in town, which was very pleasant. There's a roof terrace with benches if you're a smoker. We were very happy with this hotel and would have gladly stayed longer, had our trip allowed it. The town is small and mostly full of japanese tourists. We saw only a couple of other western tourists. The staff spoke decent English. The restaurant downstairs was nothign special and a bit expensive. We recommend seeking out something in town. There are plenty of places to hike in the area and this hotel would be a great place to base oneself for longer stay.

Our base was at Himeji; we made an overnight trip to the famous Arima Onsen. Have booked Hotel Arima Koukaen through Agoda. Tourist information deck officer rang hotel manager who came and picked us. We had upgraded room with no extra charge( extra blankets and extra heating unit were supplied from the owner for our comfort). The owner took us several times to the hot silver Spring and gold water onsens without additional charges....thanks for the hospitality. We felt were welcomed and had a pleasant stay at the Hotel Arima Koukaen.

The hotel is new and facilities are very new. Hosts are very friendly and welcoming. Free beverages, like orange juice, coffee etc are provided throughout the day at the lobby pantry area. The room is clean and cosy, comes with a Sharp ion air purifier. Bed is very comfortable, with the right firmness. Using of the private onsen is free, just need to pay onsen tax of 150yen per pax. There are 4 private onsen for reservation, each session lasting for 45 mins. No.3 is big enough for 2pax while no.6 is more for 1pax. The public onsen has the golden waters while the private has the silver waters. I'll definitely stay in this hotel if I'm back in Arima the next time.
